need some opinions on this tightened cuff

Most shirt cuffs are too loose and they ride up when I move my arm around. This is more of a problem when wearing a jacket over because the shirt sleeve would ride up, and there wont be 1/2" of cuff showing. I have tightened the cuff by moving in the button by 1.5". Looks fine overall but you can tell if I raise my hand up. Theres a slight spiral effect. Sometimes I look at it and its ok, other times I think it's not ok lol Not sure if I want to go to the tailor because a.) I have a lot of shirts b.) They would have to cut the cuff and trim the sleeve and resew everything which I'm guessing takes a lot of time and $ What are your opinion on the shirt pics. The cuff altered is the one not holding the phone

The cuff looks fine to me. How often are you raising your hand, and is that enough times for the issue to consistently bother you? From my pov the effect isn't worth the effort and you seem to have solved your problem by moving the button over.

The one holding my phone rides up though. Maybe a compromise between the two?

I agree with raisins, the sleeve with your phone looks better

It rides up when you raise your arm? That’s bc the sleeve is too short

Ok is there a general rule of thumb of how wide should your cuff be? My wrist is 7" in diameter. Do you leave an extra inch of fabric or?

When you say “ride up” do you mean it rides up towards your elbow or towards your fingers?

Towards elbow

Gotcha, a tighter cuff won’t solve that. You want more slack in the shirt sleeve and/or the shoulders of the shirt so you can move around

Like when I stretch my arm out it does this

The puckering under the arms tells me the upper chest/shoulders are too tight The puckering in this picture

True this shirt is a bit old and my chest circumference has grown

So heres another shirt thats bigger than the previous one Is this one too small? The cuffs arent altered. Is the fit right ? It rides up when I extend my arm out

It will ride up some which is fine. It’s a bit more what I expect from a dress shirt with more billowy sleeves. The cuffs look a little large here. You can see with your arm by your side the slide down a tough too far The neck looks like you wouldn’t be able to button it tho

For the neck it is half an inch small but I just wont button it and leave it unbuttoned The cuff diameter is 9.25" and my wrist is 7". Idk move the buttons half an inch inwards?

I’d get someone to help you clip/pin them in a good spot and then measure rather than guessing at measurements. Always better to actually see how it will look I also don’t particularly like the style of the second shirt for casual wear. It’s a more formal fabric and is cut to be worn tucked in and such. The first shirt is an oxford cloth button down which is much easier to wear without a tie and jacket

Yea I agree the second shirt is a dress shirt meant to be tucked in. For picture purposes of the cuff I was too lazy to tuck it in haha

Fair haha I feel that. It’s mainly the collar. I’d want to wear it buttoned up with a tie. But I think the fit is less constricting which is desirable
