There is no way to limit resources explicitly via Railway. Your Minecraft server has a variable for maximum ram allocated, you can find that variable in the docs page we sent you this morning
CPU, Egress, and Disk cannot be limited
@Morgan for visibility ^
Well definitely can’t run it on railway then lol
Thank you tho
no prob
much needed imo, discussion on this https://help.railway.app/feedback/service-limits-fb693b7f
as mentioned, if they limited the resources available to the mincreaft service it would just crash loop, hardly desirable
not an expert on how well mc servers handles that, but a crashed server is better than an empty bank account
in some cases, in this case if it costs too much you simply dont run it like the user above said, and the crash looping is not limited to minecraft, something that needs the resources but can't get them will crash loop
i see the crashing all the time with trial plan users, crash loops from either out of memory or out of disk
agreed, i've run a vps to max ram and it's not fun, usually need a full restart. so perhaps only limit cpu? and that would naturally limit ram and bandwidth, an idea.
i dont think there should be a limit on any raw resource beyond what the plan itself limits you to, that would just cause increased support load from the "i set my service to 1gb but it keeps crashing" questions we would get all too often as we already do with trial users.
instead it would be much better to have a per project spend limit, that way maybe morgan could run his minecraft server for 15 days out of the month and be good with that. or if you where under a ddos attack your service in that project would be shut down so that you can roll out ddos mitigations and then bump your limit to bring the service back online so you dont keep increasing your costs.
surprised railway even offers support to trials. (and not hobby?)
per project limit is a good idea
I'm talking about community support
don't you need a verified paid account to join the discord? you allow trials in?
you only need to have discord linked to your railway account
yeah if that is a concern it should be limited. and you are right some people ask really silly questions. 😩 https://help.railway.app/questions/such-a-stupid-ui-a4a7afef
in their defence, that blue deploy button could be missing for them, I've seen it happen for another user
