I just don't understand how to launch with gamescope.

I am looking to play a game with HDR and that requires Wayland, Plasma 6, an HDR display, Gamescope and ideally just a launch option (--hdr-enabled). How do I launch a game with Gamescope? I see the Gamescope tab in game settings but all it has is upscaling (The game has more up to date upscaling anyway) and FPS limits neither of which I want to use and seem to cause problems.

whenever I launch using just FPS Limits checked in the gamescope tab it runs the game in 720*1280 and the game settings can't change that.

Gamescope runs in 720p by default, so this is to be expected To enable HDR, you will have to add Gamescope as a wrapper manually. Head to the "Advanced" tab of the game settings, then add this to the wrappers (substituting the 1920 and 1080 with your screen resolution):

(actually, you probably want another -- at the end of the arguments)

well that is useful but hdr isn't working. not sure what is wrong in that respect Might need the git of Gamescope or something.

I think you'd also need some Vulkan layers for this to work

I thought there was an update that made that not the case. I have that installed anyway I have spent like 4 hours trying to launch a game with HDR. wtf is going on. why is everything on linux so cancer to use?

Well, HDR is still very early days And not many even have hardware to test on

fwiw HDR is real jank on windows too the tech overall is pretty new so lots of growing pains

not really. The very same game requires no special launch options or anything. its just a setting in game that is on by default if windows hdr is on. And its really just heroic. in steam you need a few launch options. I don't own this game on steam I think I'll just wait a few heroic updates or but I have to imagine that since one of the largest desktop environments and the ascendant window manager have come together support HDR this last week that I can't be the only person who would be playing HDR games if only the way to do it without steam was clear.

like i said, HDR is pretty new, so there are growing pains.. you can believe that or not i guess. But the point is steam does a lot under the hood to make that work, and until recently there were very few setups (ie window managers, compositors, etc) that could actually do it reliably until recently For example HDR works on the steam deck because valve updated their software stack to do so.. and that was recently for the launch of the OLED steamdeck. CommandMC gave the wrapper argument needed to start hdr, but your environment also has to have HDR setup properly to work (for example if you are using a compositor that doesnt support HDR, and are nesting a gamescope instance inside it, you wont get HDR output, even if gamescope is configured to do it). All that to say, you probably have some system config that isnt right, or maybe if you use flatpak there's some other missing config you need, stuff like that

My monitor is receiving an HDR signal so my compositor (kwin) does work correctly as configured with HDR. its just that I do not know what launch options or other packages (besides VK HDR layer) I need to have installed.

In all likelihood my system is capable its just not clear how to get it to happen.

You are not passing --hdr-enabled to gamescope "Game Arguments" are what the game gets, gamescope ignores those

I tried both BG3 doesn't appear to work with Linux HDR right now or something.
