Favorites Series: Flannels - Topic of the day 3/19/24
What are your favorite flannel shirts? Favorite brands at low medium and high price points? What do you look for in one of these shirts? What brands have been great for them and what brands have really let you down? Feel free to share a few of your favorite fits or inspo that feature these shirts, too. (Note: the Favorites Series will be running ~weekly as a new way of doing the "Best X for $X" threads from a few years ago on MFA.)

I dont know the difference between a good one and a bad one
thank you for contributing to the thread
Sorry i meant to follow that withlike a
How do uou tell?
But my boss called me
I have to be careful with flannels or they'll consume my whole wardrobe. It is the pnw way
I have like 8ish, if chamois counts
I personally really like v soft flannels and a lot of "high end" ones just aren't as cozy. The fabric feels stiffer and it's often not brushed. I visted BiG Denver a while ago and none of the fancy japanese flannels really interested me in the least.
That being said I rarely wear flannels anymore in favor of moleskin shirts
i love soft flannels… i’m chasing any sort of purple flannel for winter this year
Favorite flannels are LL Bean, Pendleton, Indigofera, Iron Heart, and UES. With flannel shirts, I much prefer a brushed cotton flannel to a wool one for comfort. UES is by far my favorite as the fit works better for me than any of the other premium ones.
Wythe, Warehouse, Sugar Cane, and the Flathead all make nice flannels as well.
i liked the EG flannels from last year
I need to get some EG, I’m so behind the times
I started getting EG as a bit and now I can't stop
Vermont Flannel, Wythe, vintage Pendleton
Portuguese Flannel ?
iron heart
the flat head
all of the japanese repro brands
the thicker the better
unconscionably thick flannels
I wish Bean would make the scotch plaid ones at the same “weight” as their chamois shirts. Vermont Flannel is also nice.
3sixteen
I only have one flannel now, it's this one from South2 West8 and I love it
That's a great one flannel
Vintage big mac flannels look nice
This wool flannel overshirt from De Bonne Facture lives in my head rent free though
Thanks yeah I really like some of the subtle colors that are more apparent in real life than in fit pics like the purples in there
love a cozy flannel, plaid isnt for me but i have a couple plain ones i like
I had VFC stuff and it kinda fell apart tbh
the buttons are really not as nice as others
they're just plastic
I have a vintage bean flannel that's very heavy
Idk how much of a fan I am of its button down collar tho
yeah, they've definitely gotten lighter over time
I own plenty of flannels, and STILL don't know the difference between a good one and a bad one.
The line between flannel shirts and overshirts gets very blurry
My “better” flannels are a little heavier and have more of a 3D feeling to the weave. I think that’s accomplished by thicker yarn and a looser tension weave
That said I also have a number of cheap flannels that I love and wear regularly
Favorites are an old target merona brand that I have had for 14 years, a 3Sixteen flannel, and a JCrew Wallace and Barnes wool/cotton blend that I got from eBay.
I’m afflicted by the same condition
That green + navy from last year is good
i love both that one and the green orange. both became my favourites right away. was lucky to find them both in deep sale
I wish the Flat Head fit me 😭
I do like the Teca shirts. They do run slim and aren't super thick. They do have the Rude flannels that are more heavy duty, but haven't handled them.
favorites in my closet are probably marine layer and vince - i guess if they had to be classified in price categories, they would be medium and high, respectively. on the low end i've previously owned a flannel from uniqlo which was nice but i just wasnt really a fan of how it fit on me
Filson flannels are still really good, I have a few of them.
