CA couple minutes after I used the hotkey to do so, it managed to switch to a TTY, then back to Gnome, where I had to log in but it recovered the session and sent notifications that Steam and Vivaldi had been force-stopped due to running out of RAM

CAlrighty, I'm going to hazard a guess that that was Vivaldi, based on system monitoring after restarting it. Probably unrelated to the above Gnome crashes. Wildly coincidental timing, though. Off to that repo to report it, carry on...
