Style Highlight: Athleisure - Topic of the day 3/21/24
Combining atheletic wear with casual clothing, athleisure is all about being comfy on the go. How do you feel about this style? Do you have any fitpics or inspo?

instead of looking cozy or something it just looks kinda sloppy and unintentional to me most of the time
now health goth? that's some fashion
I think slouchy fits kinda do what this style does but ten times better because of the fact that the pieces can be way more synchronous
i wonder if rick counts as athleisure if ur wearing pods and geos
basketball shorts and high top sneakers
There are lots of designer takes on the idea
Like the balenci track pants
that's true, I am being biased towards the fits presented in the topic, designer land loves playing around with athletic wear
I like this style, it's good for getting a more relaxed look without having to wear super drapey fabrics
Yeah it’s really more the broad description that designers play with rather than how I think athleisure is typically understood
I just don't wear elasticated waistbands at all cuz I was told not to wear sweatpants as a child
i think i just fucking hate joggers
So on the whole, It Does Not Appeal To Me
It's also easy to dip your toes into, if you already own athletic gear for working out.
I love wearing sweats around the house, if I could make them work outside I would but 99% of fits I see are bad
structured blazers/orphaned suit jackets over sweat suits and allbirds never look good no matter how many people do it
I think tracksuits and track pants are cool a la needles
90% of the fits in the category are garbage, but the last 10% are real good
I need some fuckin sweatpants
I feel as though athleisure is the direction I’m pointing in rn, I’ve really enjoyed blending in some athletics elements into my recent fits
For the 100th time I'll post one of the few ivy/athleisure mixes I enjoy
feel like things that are this balls to the wall only work in the correct context
like this guy looks cool bc it looks like he just got of out class and is hanging out before track/basketball/whatever practice
but like if I saw him at the grocery store idk if the fit would hit the same lmao
I just want a cool grey sweatshirt and sweatpants combo at some point tbh
lululemon lab is underrated
lululemon is a meme but its mainline is underrated too
which part of this am i supposed to be mirin
i do fw lulu's fabric approach but the cuts r so bad usually
i like that they describe the properties of the specific fabric on the tag
chuckposting
new balance used to have really cool sets but I don't think they do anymore
Whatcha think of the MiUSA grey set they have rn
It's sortve dumb expensive full price at least
yeah it's cool but realistically I am never gonna pay that much money for a sweat set
that it looks normal and is comfy
looks normal:NOOO:
the best part of athleisure to me is not the flexing brands and buying expensive sweats to do it, it's that you can spend a lil more than uniqlo, look like uniqlo, and be even cozier
i mean, that lulu is clearly tech fabric
insert ABC meme
you think that but I don't think people outside discord think that
it also doesnt look like stretchy sweat fabric though
exactly
I've got a pair of everlane sweatpants I really like 🤡
i have some lulu sweats and my mom bought me the lulu "everything" pants
which i am philosophically opposed to
the sweats are nice htough
anyways when I think about what pants I have worn more than anything else in the last two years
lulu yoga pants
not even close
pandemic-core
i have a couple of lulu shorts i use to actually work out but
I think this would look great if I had sized up on them
I have a bunch of stuff that would sorta fall into this but it's my running gear, and the only time I wear it apart from that is after a long run where everything hurts and I need comfy
i simply love wearing different things for different occasions
My Adidas x White Mountaineering track top is kinda hard though
Athleisure hasnt been the same since the juicy velour track suit fell off
Juicy is back baby
i started wearing sweats as just regular pants for city boy reasons but idk if i like it
like wearing easy pants is just as comfortable and you don't look like you're trying to grocery shop hungover
Feel like it can work integrated with gorp stuff because it’s a form over function thing
maybe a hot take based on a lot of the comments so far, but i think athleisure is ok when it's done with intention using pieces that were meant to be worn casually. it's the wearing of gym clothes for non-gym activities that gives athleisure a bad rap imo
I think that's what everyone's been saying
yeaaaah. it's a big reason why i avoid lululemon on principle; i only ever see it as gym clothes for non-gym activities
yeah it is tough to look past that especially when thats how most of their shoppers use the clothes
lately they've even started advertising that way too and i'm like
this makes me want your stuff less
i will say i like their colors tho
they have good colors
I think Athlesure looks best when it's an unintentional style. What I mean is like... The guy who goes tramping every weekend, has a summer job as an alpine guide... And as a result just kind of wound up having an entire wardrobe of just Athlesure.
Late to the convo, but as someone who owns a bunch of these clothes for purpose, I don't like to mix them with other casual clothes.
I like texture and material contrast in general, but something looks and feels off with tech-style and pairing with all wool or cotton. It's usually the weight of the items, but it can also be that unnatural smoothness, and difficult to pair color palettes.
Most athleisure brands do make things that can pair well with other clothes, but with those items I'd usually rather just get the "regular" materials.
