ah i think i answered my own question, again using this article i found that kargs are also set in bazzite-hardware-setup, and it looks like you keep the old kargs and just remove/append whatever is needed per update, preserving user configurations, nice: https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/blob/main/system_files/desktop/shared/usr/libexec/bazzite-hardware-setup#L191
