How to decide on fabric at trunk show?

Went to my first trunk show for a jacket a while ago and I had a general idea of what I wanted either wool tweed charcoal herringbone or dark navy worsted wool I just indicated that it would be for work and they showed me a whole bunch of swatches that aside from holding it up to the light or feeling the texture with my fingers I had no idea what to figure I ended up choosing this out of the options the tailor narrowed it down to.

So super 160's is a very fine wool and in my opinion too fine Which dark navy worsted wool is going to depend on a number of factors: Is it a dark navy sport jacket or suit The climate you are wearing it in How well you want the fabric to drape A tweed i'd personally want something as heavy as is still comfortable to wear (while also keeping in mind what you'll be layering with it maybe)

Suit, and NYC but I sweat incredibly easily so I indicated something more breathable

I mean a low numbered super fabric would be lightweight and at this point probably most typical even in a temperate climate like NY. Could look at canonico's perennial Though personally I'd go for at least a 12 oz fabric for a suit so it drapes nicely especially including the pants A 12-13 oz high twist wool would be the most breathable option in terms of weave though still a heavy fabric (would make sense for me in the warmer months). A 12-13 oz twill or maybe hopsack would make sense for me for the rest of the year

This fabric line has 13.5 oz twills and hopsacks (I think the hopsack is a little more breathable)

This fabric line has heavy high twist wools (12 oz and 14 oz) There are a whole number of other fabric brands and books as well of course

That navy twill is about as basic as you can get for suiting fabrics. It may get a touch warm in the summer, but it’s pretty much the “standard” suit fabric. Spier does a lot with Drago - they may even have a suit in that fabric (it looks similar to my bright navy twill from Spier)

If you’re not a weird size and not looking for really specific details I’d check Spier Mackay and Cavour
