is distant generation capped lower than the LOD render distance radius?

trying to pregen a large world with LODs before i play it rather than letting it run as i play (for performance, and so i don't end up outrunning the LODs if i move fast quickly) was gonna leave it on overnight while i sleep, set my lod render distance to 256 chunks, came back an hour later and saw it seemed to stop at 32 chunks. sure enough if i moved it started generating again, is there a setting for this somewhere?

If you pause the game, LODs wont generate

F3 + P stops the game from being paused on focus loss, so you can just alt tab away

thats news to me so ty i'll try again but it really seemed like even after i unpaused nothing generated until i moved 1 chunk, then it would gen a bit and stall again until i moved could have just been a mix of confirmation bias and coincidence i'll try also sometimes it seems like its generating when i'm paused, i can see chunks appear, is that just a visual thing? eg prehaps the chunks have already genned and the popping in is only render or something i have learned i should be using chunky to pregen alongside DH, im noticing a weird effect where some chunnks seem to disappear the CLOSER i get to them which is absurd, is it trying to switch to a higher quality LOD that it hasnt yet generated? why wouldn't it just stick with the lower quality one if its not yet generated
kingof99kings (should ping)
if ur movin closer to the lod chunks, they will turn into real chunks bcuz of ur actual render distance

It will stay low quality until it can change to a higher quality one. If you’re moving very fast then you may be entering areas where normal chunks haven’t been generated and your pc can’t keep up. Try messing with the overdraw settings in the graphics settings.

no, i'm talking hundreds of blocks away using the debug setting to only show LODs staying still, high in the sky looking around just moving a little bit then a LOD will disappear as i get closer
