personally I use leaded solder 60/40 (with a filtered fume extractor + ample air circulation)... much easier to deal with than lead-free ones @CoderGage
skill issue. Imho if you want lead-free, splurge on the "expensive" stuff. Like SAC305 or 4% silver and don't fall for "cheap" 99,7%Cu. (The price difference is actually really small or even non-existant, cheap chinese 99,7%Cu with dubious flux is completely overpriced on amazon)
