New installation help

I just installed Bazzite for the first time and basically my first linux experience. I used the Nvidia iso since I'm using Nvidia. So ok, the GreenwithEnvy doesn't work since it can't detect my RTX 3070 Second, I'm getting a lot of glitching and delayed input with my keyboard. I'm not sure if this is normal but I'm assuming it's an nvidia thing. Second, Steam won't open. I keep trying but it won't open. Hoping to get some help here.

Logout At the bottom left or right (depending on if you chose KDE or GNOME) change from a Wayland session to a X11/Xorg section soon X11 will be the default in the next ISO batch Nvidia drivers do NOT like Wayland this may change soon but for now, using the legacy windowing system is the best option for nvidia drivers also after doing that to fix all of the other issues open the terminal ptyxis and enter

it's preinstalled you have to setup it manually with a launch option MANGOHUD=1 %command% for each game's launch option in steam we used to include a tool that did this for you, but users kept breaking their config files using it so we opted to remove it steam gaming mode images have this all easy and done but nvidia can't work with steam gaming mode yet

but it is taking a while and they don't help the situation tbh difference between GPU vendors though AMD and Intel have their drivers open source Nvidia refuses to do that and all of the open source drivers available for Nvidia are reverse engineered by other people Nvidia executive decisions for linux is mostly intended for machine learning and server workstations rather than desktop

Hence I can't use my speakers. Any fix for this? Yeah I can now feel and tell how Nvidia is really not idea here. Well, at least things are working. Audio is only working via front panel and again I don't know why. For now, I'll try enjoying Helldivers 2. Which MangoHud is the same as Preset 2 of the steam deck?

rpm-ostree rebase thelinkijustprovided if you are using the gnome image just use that instead (same link, different name, same date) keep in mind the system will not auto update to the next build when you rebase to a specific tag like this, and you will have to rebase back to :stable to get updates again also keep in mind, rpm-ostree has no progress bar

AH... I see... weird. I'm on a B550 and my Windows Nvidia panel states Rebar is enabled. So I'm sure Rebar is enabled. But still Helldivers 2 doesn't work.. I'll rebase then.

if an update breaks bazzite you can always just reboot and select the ostree:1 entry in the bootloader that will boot back to your previous image then you can do rpm-ostree rollback roll back to the booted entry

rm -r ~/.local/share/Steam (this will remove your installed games, if you want to avoid that then you can do mv ~/.local/share/Steam ~/.local/share/Steam.old instead and move the games to the new folder steam makes

Actually... for some reason...that's not it. When I click steam, what only comes up is the steam icon on the bottom right. I went in it to go to big picture mode. Then I exited big picture mode to open the normal. So ok... now the weird part... All my storage drives are not detected... again... Nope.. rebase didn't work. Helldivers 2 still won't run.

no in general proton does NOT work with NTFS it is not supported games will need to reinstalled and the drive should be reformatted to ext4 or btrfs

you can copy the steamapps folder yes, the drive/partition just cant be ntfs people use hacky workarounds to get ntfs to "work" but it has other issues

because that is the preset number used on steamdeck so if you had a HTPC build it would use that preset when you set gamemode to use Preset 2 not rocket science 😄

the issue is in lutris too but they offer an option to keep prefixes off the ntfs drive, by just having it elsewhere steam doesnt and you need to use hacky workarounds which valve does not recommend either which is what we follow

pretty much as NTFS will break if you have a filepath containing : as it is an illegal character for the filesystem if you do use a workaround to get ntfs to work, it will also invalidate every game related issue you open with us and even having a path with : in it can break the filesystem

After one round, 10-20 for me. But that's not what I kept my eye on the entire time. It's the smoothness. Frame time graph shows everything. It's stable and less stutters or drops for that matter. It's like playing on the deck. Which is exactly what I expected. And I'm on 2k res. My only disappointment in Linux, is that I can't get my speakers to work. Only my headphones. I'm using an Asus Xonar sound card. And from my troubleshooting, it only detects the front panel connectors (which is connected to my soundcard) While the rear (speakers) aren't detected. If you guys know anyone who found a solution to this, let me know. Internet tells me I need some ALSA thing.

preinstalled type alsamixer in the terminal i cant tell you the rest it's basically trial and error and understanding what you're doing personally dont have this issue but it's most likely playing around with the output settings

Typically you just boot a linux live usb of Mint/Debian/Fedora and use gparted or kde partition manager (as you cannot edit the partition of the currently booted machine)

Yeah unfortunately Atomic Desktops don't have live sessions at the moment. You can get into a root terminal from the Bazzite installer but partitioning via terminal is a little too challenging for me. Much Much easier with Gparted

If you boot mint and you remove any atomic distro partition, also remove the fedora folder from the efi folder as this is a bug in the Fedora installer else it will fail with a random code 1 error, if you try and re-install

automounting drives and all the bullshit with is still an isssue you're most likely on KDE then so use kde partition manager unless you want to layer it and reboot but i hate recommending layering anymore (esp after the fiasco of the 40 upgrades)

I don't know if it's a bug or not but I just lost my fan control curve. 😦 There's no way to make cooler control work again. Some of the games I have are running at a fixed 60. When I have a 165 monitor with Vsync on. In windows they run at 90 or more. How do I fix this issue?

they spent 10 years complaining that wayland devs wouldnt use their EGLStreams buffer api instead of what everyone (wayland, intel, amd, mesa, etc) agreed upon which was GBM because if they used EGLStreams instead then nvidia would barely have to do anything

So based on my understanding... Nvidia didn't want to adjust to what everyone else agreed upon. So this is no doubt an nvidia issue. But... in 555 drivers they finally decided to use GBM? But that still brings me the question as to.. what is wayland? I think I heard of Mesa before.

We just don't know when that is. Ok things are working just fine as of the moment. I highly doubt I will have questions unless it's a specific game not working correctly regardless of what protonDB says. Is there anything I need to note of as a new user outside as a Steam Deck user? As for the Wayland thing, I hope 555 does fix it so I can get a better desktop experience. I'm also assuming the number is tied to Windows drivers as it's currently 552 for Windows. Or am I wrong with that? Either way, I'll play the patience game for this issue.

Yup this was done already. But the game I'm trying to get preset 2 on is still at preset 1. MangoHud.conf is at preset=2 and presets.conf has those. But if it's a game outside Steam, it doesn't work. I don't know why. Could it be my launch arguments?

I could make ptyxis open and run the application. Weirdly if you edit desktop shortcuts they randomly disappear so make the shortcut in another directory and drag it to the desktop

If you do a speed test just check that you are getting your full internet speed. Also check your dns settings, I had a weird issue a while ago where my isp was taking forever to resolve links and it would fail sometimes which made everything slow. After switching to the google dns server (8.8.8.8) and cloudflare (1.1.1.1) in my router config.... I haven't had internet issues. There is also a recent break in the seacom cable which might affect some internet activity depending where you are located in the world

Yup. Didn't work. In fact, some weird behaviors have been exhibited when installing the entire process for the entire day. Like for one, the process itself would take up gigabytes of RAM. It exceeded almost anything in my system.

F**in.. hell. All I did was transfer the Game Folder ouside of the Battlenet folder. Cause the default install path was on C:/Program Files Based on what's in Battle.net that is. So I tried something stupid. So yeah... it's weird.

And you know what's weird... MangoHud works properly on this game.. but some games... not really. FFXIV keeps showing preset 1. Ok after enjoying this for awhile. I think I'll try EGS next. Is there anything I need to know about installing EGS? Is it still using Heroic or do I use Lutris? Cause there's an option in Lutris that I see.

i will save you the trouble, its a clusterfuck on linux and weird unexplainable issues like you boot the game once with a wine version, it works you shut down the game and boot it again, it does not work switch version and boot, it fails, switch back to what you used before, it works (for 1 launch) again kingdom hearts is one of those games i just ended up going "fuck it, youre banished to the windows gamestream box in the basement, think about your actions"

Uh.. no. Like Battlenet I installed Ubisoft connect straight. No game. I do have Ubisoft games in Steam. But I have some in my Ubisoft account too. Looking to see if they work here in bazzite.
