Artist outreach
This is a project focusing on artist outreach in support of communication and future collaboration with PauseAI.

DRecently reached out to a musician friend of mine who has her own recording studio. Attempting to instigate an interview on her thoughts regarding Suno.ai and other types of generative music software.
DWe need to get the WGA and SAG on our side, many actors already feel upset with AI.
DI’ve already seen posts on Reddit of users posting songs with stuff like “in the style of Skrillex” to their prompts which open up potential litigation channels on what data training sets were purchased, from who specially and/or stolen from artists rather than bought outright.
DIf we can pull together an unified Human Creativity + Safety, e.g. HUman Flourishing Movement, we would be huge on this.
D@Mike The Spike is a celebrity as well and wants to help, as well as I've learned, other actors including ones you've seen in movies. A lot of the issue is that they also seem to feel isolated, which sounds odd to me.
DI'm working on a lead there, but you are in a good position, as with your friend.
DI’m getting way ahead of myself here, but ideally all AI companies would be taxed to the level of disruption they cause to professionals in affected fields and prospective students attempting to break into them. The only way people are okay with these levels of skillset being automated would be if those companies would then somehow contribute to educational funding for retraining programs for those replaced by algorithms.
IE: your musician career was destroyed by machines but now you have access to funding to return to school to pivot careers. Placing the costs of pivoting careers and education on individuals while governments subsidize AI automation seems heavily stacked against citizens and in favor of corporations. By taxing corporations that utilize AI to displace jobs in such a way that education is free and accessible to everyone affected, that’s certainly something to think about.

IFrom what I understand the WGA part of the strike ended with a reasonable deal protecting writers, but that's not true for the SAG part for actors. SAG folded and the best they did was to say that companies had to get permission from actors to create AI clones. I think the person to reach out to here would be Justine Bateman and Credo23. Justine has been outspoken on this issue and the impact it has on actors and film (though Credo23 goes a little far IMO because it seems to exclude the use of VFX & 3D)
DDo you know if you can reach them? With the recent issues with Scarlet, I feel there may be more energy for AI regulation from them.
II hope so! I'd love to see it. I did see that ACTRA Toronto was on the Human Artistry Campaign list, so I think some chapters are definitely in support (ACTRA is the Canadian version of SAG)

DSo I reached out to my musician friend directly and asked her how she feels about Adobe ToS (in Premiere) scraping user data from her music videos and she was unaware of that feature but seemed unfrazzled. I also asked if she was worried about the advancement of generative-AI music programs like Suno and she didn’t even know what that was. It was a bit shocking seeing a San Francisco-based user with a real Spotify following not be on the up and up about this technology, and I’m wondering if musicians just don’t understand how powerful the technology is at present or are under-emphasizing where tech companies are poised to steer it in the future.
DShe did tell me that she primarily uses Pro Tools right now though, and I plan on going through their ToS to see if they snuck in anything along Adobe’s developments recently or under the radar.
DWe already have programs that can generate music “in the style of certain artists” that would be impossible without those artists’ catalogs being included in training data. At present, you would have to generate that file and import it into Pro Tools, but in the future I imagine it will be incorporated into the program itself much like Adobe added “generative fill” to Photoshop.

This is relevant to artist outreach because on June 26th when Meta’s new privacy ToS go into effect, they’ll essentially be able to sell any photographic, video or audio likeness of Instagram users to AI companies as training data.
