Volunteer stipends - funding for volunteer work

In Dutch law, there is this concept called a "vrijwilligersvergoeding", which allows non-profits (like PauseAI) to grant volunteers a (very low) hourly wage / stipend / donation. This is completely tax exempt in the Netherlands, which makes it an attractive option for PauseAI.

At manifund, I've explicitly asked for donations to fund this project, and gotten over $3000 so far!

Tax Conditions

  • Max 2100 / yr, or 210 a month, or 5,50 an hour (for people aged 21+)
  • Cannot be combined with other reimbursements (e.g. printing flyers / organizing events)
## Why this is good

  • Makes it easier to organize, removes some financial barriers
  • Reimbursements cost a lot of time and effort. But since the stipend cannot be combined, we can skip the hassle of reimbursements, and just give money to the organizer
  • Extra psychological incentive for the organizer to organize things, as they now have some agreement
  • Agreement allows PauseAI to set guidelines
## What PauseAI gets in return

  • Local events! Flyering, workshops, social events, etc. I think we should set some guidelines for this in the agreement.
  • An agreement from the local organizer to partake in meetings, check-ins, and follow the global strategy.
## Agreement contents

## How you can help

  • Give feedback on this idea and the agreement
  • Provide tax advice on a per-country basis. I know it's tax-free in NL, but I don't know how other countries react to this.
