Is this suit jacket purposefully long or (more likely) not right for me?

Trying on vintage suits, context is marriage ceremony--love the cut and fabric of this vintage Issey Miyake double breasted suit including really nice pleated trousers But is this length too long or the intended silhouette? I know the very standard rule is to the base knuckle of the thumb--this is ~1in longer.

It looks proportional and intended i wouldn't evaluate a vintage issey suit based on contemporary rules of thumb

I think it looks good. English suits drape like that, and though I'm not sure, I think this is an English cut!

Japanese, it's Issey

Japanese brand, but cut could be English. I haven't heard of a Japanese cut. The ones that I know exist are American, Italian and English

It's Issey's distinct style of double breasted jacket....

I see, I didn't kow that. From what I learned those are the 3 classical styles. I just though it looked like an english cut

Those three are a good starting point, but once you get more into it, especially fashion, they really don't mean too much
