Where does the Dash Content manager save

Where does the Dash Content manager save assets. Or does it only reference assets already on your hard drive?

Hello, depending on the library, the content library will either use assets already in the project, or bring them in the project. - Megascans library, will use the paths from the megascans uassets when imported in the project - Current Project, will use the assets already in the project, but allow you to find them quicker, and with a better integration with Dash - PolyHaven, IES, and other libraries: - If we import data, the data will be under Polygonflow/ - If the data is already a uasset (some libraries will be like that) it will be the original path The best way to know where someting is imported, is to right click on it and click "Find In Content Browser" Just keep in mind that, if the asset is not imported, it will not be available

@Costantino - CTO Basically what I am trying to figure out is if using the Dash conternt manager takes up more harddrive space (outside the project folder) for storage and if so, can we control where that is? Mostly I don't want my C-drive filling up with assets.

Hello, also in this case, it depends from the library. You can configure the paths from the preferences. Few examples: - The megascan library entirely rely on the downloaded data from the now defunct bridge (either standalone or plugin) Changing the path is only needed to allow Dash to find the data and read it. - Poly Haven library will use the specified path as directory to download the models and store/generate the needed metadata from Dash. - Project Library will use the specified path for metadata storage when tagging the assets. Compared to the actual assets, that will be just in the project, the metadata it's quite light, but you can still decide to place it somewhere else from the preferences. Hope this helps!

@Costantino - CTO Thanks. It doesn't quite answer my questions which is does it copy the files somewhere and take up more space on the hard drive. One reason I ask is because the current FAB downloader does not permanently store any of the downloads in a vault (they are working on this), unlike the original Unreal Marketplace downloader or Bridge. So I am wondering what the Dash Content library is doing with stuff downloaded from FAB. Where is it keeping the files?

It stores the files in the path specified in the preferences

So just to follow up,m if i want to make sure that no new files are saved to my C-drive through Dash, what items do I need to change here?

Fab library path: downloaded asset and metadata write path Poly haven path: download asset and metadata write path Current project path: metadata storage path for computed assets The other paths are pointing to data other apps manage, and are there in case the default values are not used

Thanks. Do I have to change it for each project, or does changing it once make it stick for all future projects?

It’s an app specific preference, so it’s saved per user in the dash data. Every project launched on that user will read the saved preferences.
