Afrika Korps vs desert rats crashes on startup

Hey, I know I just asked for help with a different game, but I've been put in the mood to experiment with Wine now, and sincethis is a fairly niche old game that has very little information online so I figured it'd be good to get some up. After installing it the game won't boot at all...It seems to be missing some .dll files, and failing to modify the windows registry? I would love some advice on how to deal with this 🙂 I've already manually installed wine, and updated it to make sure it wasn't broken, but that seems to not have helped...

Try installing mfc42 with Winetricks Not sure what ut.dll is though

Well, installing mfc42 certainly did something, it now opens a black window, and keeps trying to boot until my Linux session restarts, presumably from reaching the ram limit it's allowed to consume 😅

it does not seem to want that ut.dll file anymore tho!

Might want to try disabling DXVK actually, WineD3D sometimes is more correct for older games I've noticed

I actually got it to boot by going to winecfg and changing the system from Windows Vista to Windows XP 😃 I also changed these settings, but I will try to turn them on one by one to see if I can repeat it. The game does seem a liiiittle unstable... Update: Definitely cannot turn on DXVK, as that immediatly makes Mint desktop crash again 😅

so leaving that all turned off and setting the system to Windows XP in winecfg seems to so far lead to the best results...Game will actually boot and I can start a mission, that is probably a good start. Does Heroic have the Lubris thing where you can suggest default settings for games, in case anyone in the future for some reason wants to play this? 😛

In theory we have Protonfixes (which are actually shared between Lutris, Heroic, and any other UMU clients), but since this game is sideloaded (meaning it doesn't have a storefront and ID to locate it by), we can't use those here Anyone else will just have to find this thread and replicate your settings
