Was working through out the week - Pressing play results in a black window pop up and immediate close

did anything change between the game working and the game not working? maybe a proton - experimental update? proton experimental is... wel... experimental, not meant for every day usage
proton experimental is a bad choice to run games, it can get updates and break your games, you should always use a version of proton you can control

Not that I know of. Played a bit last night and after starting my SD up this afternoon it no longer works. I tried changing it off of experimental as well but no dice. I got my SD very recently, would it be possible for you to tell me how to downgrade or use a version I can control
I believe it also defaulted to experimental as the other wine paths weren’t compatible or “couldn’t find” something

Try this:
- first, if you have saves or something you want to keep, look for them inside
/home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/STAR WARS Battlefront II Celebration Edition and make a backup
- then, rename that folder to something else
- then, in heroic's sidebar, in the wine manager section, install wine-ge-latest
- then, in the game's settings, select that wine in the wine tab
- then launch the game
if it still fails share a new log, if it works you may want to put the saves back to where they were and you can delete that folder that was renamedrival-blackOP•9mo ago

Just verified on my pc that the same authentication pop up was there as well, but I was able to sign in to verify my license… not sure how to do that here

no idea, I don't really use any EA game
if the installer that you can download from the EA site doesn't work I don't know any alternative

I tried with both Heroic and Lutris : same problem. The EA app sometimes doesn't start whatever version of win or proton I use.
(FYI, I own the game on Epic)
What is quite difficult to understand is why it works sometimes ... even without updating anything. Today it hasn't worked at all but I guess it comes from some update on CachyOS side.
Does Heroic update the EA App ? Can it be forced manually ?
Any good way to cleanup some caches ?
