Can Support Please Be Added To Play Marvel Rivals on Heroic Launcher???

Hello Team! šŸ‘‹ I just made an annoyingly lengthy post on your X page about this before I found your Discord Support page here (sorry šŸ˜…), but in summary there’s a huge demand for the new Marvel Rivals game from Epic Games. I’m in a pickle because: 1. I have an older Xbox One Series S, not the new ā€œXbox Series Sā€. 2. Marvel Rivals is ONLY available on PC via Windows on Steam or the Epic Games Store OR the newest generation consoles (PS5 / Xbox Series S/X). 3. I plan to build a PC this year, but for now I’m broke and times are tough economically for many people to upgrade. 4. Since this game is so popular, most of my friends and many others are playing it (The game reached 10 million players worldwide within 72 hours). At the moment, the only way that folks like me who have a MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon (2021 M1 Pro running Sequoia 15.2) are supposedly able to play Marvel Rivals is via Crossover Preview. Since Crossover Preview is a newer beta version of Crossover, it costs $60 to download and obtain the license. This essentially means that if you want to run this free game on a Mac, you need to buy a $60 piece of beta software that may or may not run it properly… Tl;Dr: PLEASEEE work on adding Marvel Rivals to the Heroic Games Launcher. I regularly use Heroic to run Rocket League on my 2021 M1 Pro MacBook Pro and it’s so cool that I can play competitively using the XDR Display Resolution and the ProMotion 120hz screen (which is way faster than my Xbox One S and 60hz 4k TV). I also figured that since you can already run the Epic Games Store launcher on Heroic that I could setup Marvel Rivals. I did download the full (39GB) game on there, but when I attempted to run it using the Game-Porting-Toolkit-Latest it would act like it was going to play and then never run and ask if I wanted to play / launch it. I tried this with Whisky version 2.3.4 and it wouldn’t work either.

I’ll link the post I added to Twitter for reference below, but I went through a few online forums and then YouTube to find that just through YouTube alone there were a total of 8 videos with 63,000 views all together about how to play Marvel Rivals on Mac. Most of them were incorrect and some did say to ultimately just buy the Crossover Preview 1 year license for $60 to play a FREE game, but to me, that’s ridiculous. I’m a huge fan of Heroic Games Launcher you beautiful Devs have made, and I also mentioned on all 8 YouTube videos in a comment how people should support you all on Patreon since you Devs are the GOATs 🐐 Thank you for all you do and please look into this if possible! šŸ™

Here’s my X post @HeroicLauncher with most of the same info and receipts of what I had mentioned for reference. https://x.com/bfogler12/status/1877224920876192239

@HeroicLauncher Could you PLEASEEE work on support for Epic Games' Marvel Rivals??? There's so much demand for this online from what I've seen (especially for those using Apple Silicon), but the only option I've found available online currently is Crossover Preview = $60 😭

Finally, here’s a screen recording of the issue in real time for reference if needed as well.

sorry it seems like Rivals on mac only work for Crossover https://discord.com/channels/812703221789097985/1314710034076405860/1324756784455614525 if you really wanted it they have trial version right? You could try that maybe I dont know much about Mac. Its important to note that Heroic is only a launcher to unify your game library, to launch it is and whether it worked or not up to game devs and Wine/Crossover devs

Thanks for your quick reply! Unfortunately it is only working on Crossover’s experimental / beta version at the moment (Crossover Preview). Crossover Preview is not included with the free trial version of Crossover :/ I don’t want to pay $60 to run a free game and that’s the whole reason behind my request here - especially if there was a simpler way to run it that was free / cheaper. When you say ā€œwhether it works or not is up to game devs and Wine / Crossover devsā€ I’m not following exactly. Who would be the dev who could make this work? Would it be a dev at Epic Games (doubt it since it was released very limited to the current next gen consoles and Windows only), or when you say the Wine/Crossover Devs, who are they and how would I contact them? Finally, just to make sure I understand, Heroic has no control whatsoever of how Epic Games can be played on other OS’, it only brings the Wine/Crossover code and puts it together with the game library (like the bread that holds peanut butter and jelly together)? šŸ¤”

Heroic is just a launcher. WIne/Crossover is a software that is translating this Windows specific language to the language Mac or Linux understands. Wine and Crossover is developed by whole other group you could try search it in google. Basically Heroic only tells Wine/Crossover to RUN that game. Also game devs are big part on how they would work in Mac or Linux especially if they have anticheat

you could go to their website to maybe help further if you have any questions https://www.winehq.org/

I’m such an idiot… I’m so sorry… I’ve spent the last 3-4 hours trying to figure this out and get reference data / contact support for this and I had no idea Heroic just compiled and unified the data. It works so damn well I thought they had their own backend devs that built the code that actually ran / translated the windows code to a VM for Unix / Linux like Wine / Crossover. No wonder why Crossover charges $ for their service if they built it. Wine on the other hand I have no idea what it is or how it works, I’ve just heard of it when loading whisky / crossover / heroic to play rocket league on my Mac. I guess I’ll see if Crossover can help build that in, or if Wine has any support :/ Thank you for your time and I’m sorry for being an idiot and blowing up the Heroic support. There’s just so many people online that I was reading through that were having a similar issue and could not play this game so I figured it would be a great implementation and I love the heroic team. @tallenta.one Idk if you’re apart of the Heroic dev team or know them, but I did want to give some feedback and say that the feature you all added where the game porting tool kits are built into the heroic launcher makes everything so much more seamless and I really appreciate the ease of use. Hats off to the development team and if I hadn’t gone through this whole issue and wasn’t broke, I promise I would donate to the heroic launcher Patreon and I will as soon as I can financially someday as I use it often for competitive Rocket League and it works great.

Some of the heroic devs contribute to other projects that the whole ecosystem lives off of, but yeah heroic itself is mostly a tool to help simplify and unify configuring wine translation layers for particular games, and hooking up to stores like egs gog and amazon to a single library This is pretty similar to the other tools like heroic such as lutris or bottles etc also heroic and anyone that posts in support are entirely volunteers, no one is employed by any company or other entity to work on heroic, even the devs Also, there's often very little that can be done for games with heavy anti cheat on mac.. games on mac are 50/50 chance of working at all, and games with lots of anti cheat are very likely unable to work in most cases. Its more or less up to the game developers to build their game in a way that is more friendly, and that is unlikely to happen. The fact of the matter is, mac isnt great for running windows games, and if that is a central use of your computing, this may not be the right hardware for you

Thank you @Allora! I understand that this program is run by volunteers and is open source. I appreciate all of that work / time that goes into it and I also appreciate your detailed response. I wasn’t aware of the anti-cheat features or how that affected the unification / translation from Windows to Mac. I have the correct hardware and I’m very satisfied with my MacBook for everything it does, but when it comes to traditional AAA windows gaming I know MacOS isn’t the best for this and I plan to build my own PC when I get the $. I just wanted to see if there was a workaround in the meantime.

in many cases anti cheat is typically the blocker, and the only way around it is to break the anti cheat which more or less risks a ban since you'd be bypassing the anti cheat system rivals fortunately has a different problem, but gptk or whiskey dont seem to have a fix for it while crossover does (interestingly the developers of crossover are also partnered with valve to develop proton, which may be why they're usually the first with fixes for various games)
