Steam Recording not working with Heroic games
I added Alan Wake 2 to Steam through Heroic and added heroic itself as well so I can get Steam overlay which showed up just fine, but Steam Recording is not working. I can take screenshots and use Steam Input but the recording is not seeing anything

I haven't checked in a long time, but when the feature first rolled out, it didn't work on non-Steam stuff that runs externally
maybe it works on stuff installed by Steam. I don't know

pretty sure it only works on things you got from steam
i dont think it works on their side load feature

it's intended to

I don't have anything sideloaded into Steam to find out though

i wonder if that's only true on windows 😄

in practice, probably hah
it's right under a "Steam Deck Verified" descriptor too

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
maybe i should try it later

Haven't thought of that. I was using it alot on Windows with so many non-steam games.
I did rebase my Bazzite to Bazzite-deck to get their steam gamemode and it did actually record properly
But switching between desktop and gamemode is not a thing for daily pc users. I mean it's for theater pcs and handhelds
I thought maybe it's a wayland thing, so I installed X11 but the whole DE didn't boot 🥸
ok.... I accidentally switched to Steam stable and I was wondering I lost the overlay. Apparently, it's something they introduced with Steam beta. yay steam recording for non-steam is close 🙈
I feel like im annoying when I keep updating this... but adding the game's exe does work and it starts recording properly. So I can confidently say Steam does support recording non-steam games. It's just Heroic

I’m more inclined to believe that Steam can’t record anything running from a flatpak or an outside environment than it being a specific Heroic issue
