mesa needs to be updated in the terra repos and then we need to do an image build after that
currently the mesa build is failing iirc
and SCALE is happening this week so everyone is kind of not super available atm
Do we know an ETA? Iโm currently unable to use the machine I have bazzite on now.

Anyone have an example PR of the last time a kernel bump was done? I'm willing to give it a shot if I have something to work off of!
6.14 doesnt exist yet
antheas has to build the kernel first and the only kernels we do are stable kernels
so if you want a non stable kernel you need the sources from fedora, remake our akmods repo for that kernel since we dont do non stable kernels
then you need to patch gnome/kde to work with new mesa since its not out yet
Oh I see so its not as simiple as number of version bumps to get it going.
Bummer I would help out but thats abit beyond my capablities right now.
yeah its why we tell people to calm down and wait, this happens every time there is a new architecture generation
same thing happened with intel arc b580 (except that mainly needed a new kernel that came into testing like 2 days later)
problem is that 9070 release clashes with SCaLE and requires a new mesa
the kernel has the driver bits needed, mesa just doesnt use it yet because the cards didnt exist in the market yet
nobara is confirmed working, not sure if there are any other fedora based distros there yet, but dont leave ur pc bricked. Bazzite will be updated soon
Interesting. They yolod mesa 25 on its own
If it releases in fedora it will be here in 1-2 days
Glad I'm still waiting to buy gpu there is no rush : which is something I told myself before, I was thinking maybe I week or two I will buy it than. But as newbe3 I will ask should I download while new iso or just update. Bazzite after installation. I mean after update?
It's good to see that it shouldn't be to long before RDNA4 gets support. My card shows up Friday, but I dual boot Win 11 so I can hang out in there for a minute. My 6800XT is great, but an upgrade would be super great.
mesa 25 is in
testing
as of this morning EU time
no firmware still but games will at least workThat's awesome! Thanks for all the work you guys put into Bazzite! It's great stuff.
very .. thanks for everything ..... im happy my friend pushed me away from windows to bazzite ..... thanks for everything and the good work
and now im in waiting for run for release
Just got my hands on mine a few minutes ago guess Ill have to wait a while
At least the system boots up and I can browse the web and code and stuff
Don't have to rely on windows for absolutely everything
(I really don't want to go back ๐ญ)
testing support should be there
support in testing*
will probably roll to stable today
Oh shoot awesome timing!
thats the magic sentence we all waited for ๐
Tomorrow
thanks alot
@Cereal @Moshenokoji Katanaway
Thanks! Got mine today and it's working for everything in testing except for hardware acceleration in firefox.
That sounds great. By the time I get mine, everything should be good to go!
next monday i will install bazzite on my new pc
I ain't done nothin
I'm just a user
sorry for the ping but I want to ask for a bit of clarification. The new Mesa driver will support running games on the GPU but what does a missing firmware mean? Would it mean degraded performance? Is that something related to the kernel or is it mesa related? Sorry if it's kind of a loaded question but I'm just curious lol
Missing the firmware usually means the driver will have limited functionality or won't work at all.
Example from Ayaneo devices. Only one speaker will play audio due to missing firmware or no speakers will play audio
I see
Thanks
We will wait patiently ๐ซก
Been going ok for me with the testing branch and a 9070xt. Only had one game crash and it was early access and pretty janky with video drivers even with a 6700xt.
I do get a black screen but it comes back, actually working better than with the 6700xt. Sometimes it would totally lose signal (happend in windows too).
I am admittedly running 240hz 1440p on 49'' super ultrawide monitor over a 10 foot display cable and its using DSC. I need to use a shorter cable and see if issue persists. It honestly happens more on the desktop then when I have a game running.
oh yeah there are so much stuff in that setup that can be a problem ๐
I think I'm just going to attach my tower to the side of the sit/stand desk at this point. Actual legit VESA certified cables shouldn't be this hard to find (and I am pretty sure they dont exist for anything over 6 feet).
Oh yea I forgot to mention its all running through a physical TESmart KVM too, you know for added complication (issues persist if I run directly to the monitor though)
im rebasing to testing rn
I just flipped to the latest testing that depricated the kernal version. Less black screen flashes now.
I was benchmarking yesterday on windows and while it was fun playing games im just so used to gnome on my main desktop that it just felt wrong
id rather deal with bugs and potentially worse perf and just be on bazzite lol
Yea the biggest issue ive had is one of my games just crashed when i tried to launch. But its early access and has had driver issues in general. So probably on the gamedev.
Other stuff runs just fine
makes sense
I dont rly play many new games anyway I only really upgrade to play older games better so I doubt ill have much issues
Yea probably be fine
They did mention somewhere that the mesa 25 drivers should be coming to stable branch tomorrow. I will prob switch back to that when available.
oh in this channel duh
yeah lmao
prolly same
I should rebase to non nvidia image while im at it lol
no real reason to do it but no reason not to either
ope guess screen sharing might be an issue
obs is barely refreshing at all
Hmm I havent tried that yet with 9070xt it worked well enough with 6700xt a couple months ago.
Discord screen sharing doesnt work through the application (but it does through firefox browser).
Thats on discord devs though
oh actually screen sharing works on vesktop
I did have to set it to x11 on flatseal though, screensharing with it running under wayland caused some really annoying audio crackling issues and performance drops for me
I havent tried discord screen sharing yet since I havent hopped on a call
will do soon
sorry to bump this guys,
hows things going with the 9070xt drivers ? and will it be rolled into the nvidia update image aswell >
ive been using the nvidia image for a while but have swapped gpus a few times, hoping the new radeon drivers work with the nvidia image to
Cheers
Im on the nvidia image and its working on the testing branch. It's got some weirdness like obs screen capture being insanely laggy and discord not playing certain videos and discord screen sharing having encoding errors occasionally
but nothing like catastrophic
totes usable
@dansv8 [ERIC] if you need to use em right now and dont wanna wait till they hit stable you can rebase to the testing branch by typing
brh rebase testing
into the terminalThanks @Cereal , I've not done a rebase before, will that mess up my desktop / apps / what I have installed ? I'm new to Linux and rebase sounds like a windows reset ๐๐
nope
all my stuff is intact
nvidia image is just "normal image with nvidia driver added"
we already added the firmware and mesa 25, should come to stable soon
I don't mind going to the test image and playing around ๐ will give it a go later Ty

welp, finally gonna make the switch from kinoite to bazzite
Been Playing Soul Mask, another early access games with no issues on stable and a 9070xt!
Anyone else not getting hardware accelerated video playback in Firefox? It's working in Brave
Might have to wait for flatpak to update
There's a known bug with the display freezing and an open PR in Mesa
I'll try to ship that one sooner than they do
We already ship one for VRAM issues
Ok thanks for the info and all you guys do.
the MESA 25.1 fixes Indiana Jones, will it be soon merge mind if I ask?
I'm still getting weird crashes in Deadlock almost every game now. I swear it wasn't this bad when I was on nobara but I could have just been lucky I guess? What's the beat way to try and log the crash and then have something to investigate? I'm a complete Linux novice.
9070 non-XT is broken on stable, working in testing. Getting crazy graphical artifacts on stable. Is testing on different firmware level? I know they have the same Mesa and kernel at this point
You can check the kernel, mesa and firmware versions here https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/releases I've tried almost every one and still seem to be getting issues so maybe it's just a wait and see thing although it would be interesting to compare to what versions nobara are on (and if they're newer perhaps it's just a waiting game until they become available upstream)

By all accounts stable and testing seem to be the same. I wonder what is causing it
Did you make sure to have your monitors on prefer efficiency rather than colour accuracy?
Didnโt check that, only because itโs on prefer efficiency in testing. Iโll rebase to stable and look
Yep, still on efficiency
However this time things are booting as normal. Perhaps kde decided to default to accuracy for that rebase? No idea
Could have been, that's usually the first hurdle I've seen people have with 9070s so far.
now the wait for LACT support begins. Reports indicate the non-XT overclocks well
Yeah I'm wanting to undervolt mine but hopefully keep the same performance just less power.
Has anyone run into low power draw in their 9070/xt cards? I'm wondering if there is some workaround or if it's safer to wait for linux firmware to update because I'm currently only seeing 100w draw so performance is understandably lower than on windows.
What game?
Everyone seems to be running into that with Monster Hunter
Anyone having issues with Cyberpunk? It will not run for me, it will crash my whole system and just reboot once I get in their launcher and press play.
had the system freeze up when I tried running dota
ultimately powered down the PC
mine has been freezing every time i try to reboot
firefox completely seizes up if I try to navigate anything video/image heavy - youtube sub/home screen
and hardware acceleration isn't working for media in firefox
so things are "working", but also very unstable
also, I can "hear" my GPU - coil whine sounds - as a I navigate anything video/image heavy in ways that I couldn't on say windows if I dual boot into that
launcher option:
--launcher-skip
if that doesnt help then idk as i cannot replicateHonestly that's the only game I've tested so far, but it would probably be good to try out something else to see. I didn't even consider it could be isolated to a specific game because it pulls the full 300w+ in w11.
That could be an issue of being cpu limited? When I set everything on max in 4k in helldivers I get the max usage from my xt
Well it makes sense, its the biggest game release right now. But yes, unfortunately in that game specifically people are reporting the 9070s not utilizing properly on Linux
They are exactly the same
Yeah. I am unsure what was causing it. It's possible that maybe KDE switched my screen back to "prefer accuracy" after rebasing. But after re-rebasing the issues are now gone
Just to confirm
ujust get-logs
is for if the game crashes but doesn't crash the system right?
and the ujust logs-last-boot
for if it does requre a hard restart?I didn't know 9070 xt wasn't supported yet. Is that the reason why it keeps freezing and crashing on the dashboard? Just installed bazzite on a newly build pc for my living room and can't even get one game to install. Temps look fine
It's in the very early stages of support so it's still buggy, especially in gamemode/big picture.
Oooohhh dammit I was finally excited to sell my ps5 lol
Any ETA? Days, weeks, or months?
I imagine full almost bullet proof support will be a few months, but I also think every week or two we'll get substantial improvements. There's people working on it all the time it just needs to become stable further up the tree where Bazzite pulls from which takes a little while.
I see. So my system freezing and crashing just while downloading a game is completely normal?
I want to make sure it's not a hardware problem
Are you in the gamemode or desktop?
Game mode
It could potentially be just because of how gamemode works. Try do the same in desktop mode if possible?
Ok I will try on desktop mode. Thanks!
Worked like a charm!
Same problem on desktop mode ๐ฎ
Just suddenly freezes with black screen on my tv
this is the common dance with brand new hardware unfortunately - similiar stuff back in 2020 with a brand new 6800xt
See if you can go to display settings and check your tv is set up as prefer efficiency? I know that has been an issue for some people.
takes a couple months for linux support to fully land after launch
I see. I'm just scared it's a problem with my hardware since they are all new parts. I guess the only way to know for sure is to install windows and see if it freezes there?
Other than that I'm not really sure. I've moved over only last week (after using a steam deck docked for about a year) so this is all new to me, just trying to help out with a few common things.
we will ahve some fixes in testing later today
for amd new gpus
If you have windows it might be worth a try since it's always easy to hop back once more improvements come down the pipeline. At least you can have peace of mind then about your hardware.
Are these bazzite fixes or never fw/mesa/kernel?
mesa
Ah sweet, will hop onto testing then once I see its there.
What's the easiest way to update when the possible fixes are released?

Ive been getting like hard system crashes occasionally when alt tabbing to and from games
On the stable branch specifically
Yesterday night I swapped to the testing branch again and it's been working fine
i think alt tab crash should be fixed for the next testing build, from what i currently see in the mesa-bazzite branch
ah awesome, that's one I kept getting pretty regularly in game.
let me double check, i have been following mesa gitlab and personally waiting for the alt tab fix
actually i dont know the specific commit that fixes that ๐ฆ but i used mesa-git and dont have those issues compare to what's currently in testing.
@Kyle Gospo when do you think we will have a testing build
I'll kick one now
I installed windows to test the new hardware, and have been running occt tests with no problem for over an hour now. So I guess it's the 9070 xt compatibility in brazitte/Linux.
AMD doesn't release stable drivers for linux on launch?
no they dont
welcome to linux
artifact fix is in testing
@Valerie test artifact fix?
I'll get on testing now
What the hell
So the community has to create drivers themselves?!
they release drivers
they arent stable
they were late with mesa 25
and as you saw artifacts
they also were late with the firmware
I see.. that's confusing considering they know valve wants to release SteamOS for all hardware this year..
your card will not work on steamos
just forget it
all hardware:clueless:
Valve hired some developers to work on AMD hardware support in the mesa vulkan driver
now gta v crashes
nice
I doubt SteamOS will work on Nvidia at all at launch, let alone new AMD cards.
and those people are the ones fixing 9070 xt issues last week
did they hire them though?
give me a name
And then Valve moved to 6.11 as their "new" kernel, to make sure they don't get those fixes for another year
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pixelcluster
"Contractor for Valve"
there's another one, one sec
Again though, the patches don't really matter if Valve aren't using them
Like cool that they're doing this. SteamOS still isn't using it, and won't be for a while.
i don't know why people are so intrigued into using SteamOS
they are still using X11 for desktop mode
Because it's a big company
people are literally making comparison as if Bazzite is no good compare to SteamOS
they backport stuff
but contractor employee is not
you dont get the same benefits
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/hakzsam
RADV developer from Valve
When I get a crash,
ujust logs-last-boot
is giving me hours of lines. Is there a quick way to swap it to get the last 2 mins?Looks like it's fixed
i did a mesa backport, most of the commits on the steamos side were from him
seems like an early 2024 hire or earlier
Well yeah, because it's an os that doesn't show the ugly side of Linux often, plus they were there before us
So we are left looking like the ones forking of them, at least from an outsider perspective
Test the artifacting guys
Realated to prefer efficiency?
No, wether you get the fuzzies
Do you have a picture?
Still getting some freezes/crashing but less than before. Yay ๐
I just got a system hang on a 9070XT, after which I could only recover by doing a hard shutdown. Could be related to me alt-tabbing away from the game a few seconds prior.
I see a kernel crash with a stack trace in amdgpu in the logs from the previous boot.
Where would be the best place to report it?
ive been having hard crashes and hangs when alt tabbing and I think it happens whenever I have a game running, im screen sharing, and I alt tab into firefox but its so inconsistent its really weird :enaHUH:
Where would I even find logs for these hangs?
journalctl -o short-precise -k -b -1
Where the last number is the boot index. 0 - current boot, -1 - previous, -2 - the one before thatHmm I didnt game much this weekend but no hard crashes for me that ive seen. I do think firefox is using cpu vs videocard still. Maybe try closing firefox while gaming and see if it helps?
Which in my case looks like this
That's a good idea. Another suspicion I have in mind is that these crashes could be tied to me running MangoHUD overlay (a new shiny GPU, need to benchmark that!).
Anecdotally, I haven't seen a crash yet after turning it off, though I haven't gamed much since
Anyone update their system and see whether LACT supports the 9070 series now? I am not at my computer but they updated it on the 16th.
I've noticed that I'm getting better power draw with the recent update to stable, but sill not getting close to the max. I haven't tried out LACT before, but I've seen it refernced when digging up info on previous amd power draw issues. I'm guessing I should install it with rpm-ostree and that it's relatively safe?
ujust install-lact
So power usage is kind of all over the place, I do see it getting into the high 200s and briefly hit 300, the frametime just isn't very smooth. This is on a 9070 xt.
Unless there's been a new release today it's still not working correctly yet.
Just checked. Latest release is the stable one so yeah, no changes yet.
What version number?
41.20250315
v0.7.2 adds RDNA4 support. Which is 3/16. so our build is like a day off
I might try with Firefox closed and see if I get crashes. Most of the time I've got steam, discord and Firefox open on a 2nd screen.
Cool, might be because that version hasn't made its way yet to where the Devs pull everything together so might naturally take a few days from a release to be able to be pulled here.
I have had firefox crash a couple times, but no games so far
huh, lact on my bazzite system, installed via ujust, is reporting 0.7.2 release. so perhaps it's been updated in bazzite?
Iโll update when I get home. Havenโt tried yet
has anyone noticed weird brightness or contrast issues with 9070xt in linux? nothing that makes a game unplayable, but dark areas sure are dark in some games.
Are you in game mode?
yes sir!
Are you plugged into a tv via hdmi using 4k120hz?
yes I am.
Unfortunately HDMI 2.1 featureset does not work in Linux. So when you run 4k120hz it does so in a super limited color space to work in 2.0 bandwidth. Youโll have to go 4k60hz or get a DP to HDMI adapter
Layered packages update independently of the base system.
You turn on hdr and boom, looks like total Garbo
fascinating; contrast/brightness wasn't an issue with my last AMD card 7800xt...
I assumed cause it's early days for 9070xt.
In sdr itโs less noticeable
Nah ironically I found this out on my 7800 XT
Iโm not sure if the color space stuff only gets really whacky sometimes or what. But itโs why things are super dark most likely. Change to 4k60 and see if it looks different
huh, well the different in Ghost of Tsushima 7800XT vs 9070XT is stark. non-HDR is almost 100% dark. HDR has artrifacts in high brightness areas. neither occured on 7800xt. again, I assume there are two issues (HDMI & early days for kernel/mesa support for 9070)
What artifacts?
Outside of this though ghost of Tsushima is probably the best performing game on Linux with 9070s so far. I can get 4k120 dynamic res without frame gen on a non-XT
White skies don't have smooth gradients but banding
aye! the performance is great! ๐
another example game is Euro Truck Simulator / American Truck simulator -- dark areas are DARK, and in-game brightness adjustment does nothing
LACT on my HTPC is 0.5.6... lol
layered packages should update with the rest of my system when using the Update command in desktop mode right?
Yes
Point is their versions aren't tied to Bazzite at all
I guess I'm just not sure how my system has been updated for months now and LACT has stayed at that low of a version
0.5.6 is from September 2024
fyi, lact 0.7.2 does note some bugs:
I've noticed it's a little buggy on the OC pane.
I updated my whole system and LACT has stayed the same. Going to try reinstalling it from scratch
I restarted the game without HDR enabled in game mode, and non-HDR looks fine now. HDR shows the artifacts in sky.
I reinstalled LACT and now it is on the current version. Looks like the 9070 can't be pushed to a higher power limit yet unfortunately
4k60hz?
4k120hz, will try 60hz! had no idea about the HDMI 2.0 limitation.
just to verify thats the issue
same issue with 4k60hz unfortunatly; likely an issue with early support for 7090. I'll wait till more support comes down the line (kernel, mesa 25.1+, etc.)
What kind of tv do you have?
LG CX...
same banding issue in 4k60, 4k120 in Forza Horizon 5 with HDR enabled; this definitely wasn't an issue with my 7800xt -- which I had using for two years with HDR in gamemode no problem
Press the green button on your remote a bunch until you get the pop up that tells you HZ, color space, etc
I have the exact same TV
It'll say "VRR Information"
Thanks. I know this little trickโฆ I will test when Iโm back home with both cards.
Is there a game or two youโve had issues with I can test as well?
Nah, I'm pretty set
had a hard freeze while using blender outta nowhere and lost like an hour of progress ๐ญ
its starting to feel like it just freezes after the system has been running for a while
I think this is about where it crashed?
seems like its gnome crashing
:thonking:
Would DP to HDMI do 4K120hz in HDR? I think Iโm experiencing the same issues with my LG G4
Yeah it works fine on hdr
But also 120hz? Because Iโll just get a different cable then.
Yes. Thatโs what I use
Googled it a bit, thatโs another massive rabbit hole ๐, gonna try the Cable Matters one, Reddit seems to think thatโs the best one.

Got my tv on the wall, definitely need more than 1.8 m ๐
If the cable works I'll sell you my CalDigit adapter for $20 shipped
To the UK ๐?
Aw heck
It'd probably take a while
Hehe I got the caldigit adapter coming in this Sunday for ยฃ25 so not too bad

It might fit
I'm just mad I've spent $60 on cable stuff now
But having VRR would help a lot with games that can't quite hit 120fps
Yeah exactly! Is it worth it and itโs only gonna be better I reckon with driver updates
Dead Space remake for example, at Native 4k wants to sit around 75-100fps. Modded nier automata at native 4k is like 90-110fps
At the moment I just drop the resolution to 3200x1800 and that solves it
Itโs a shame though, I got a G3 on the wall, would love to use 120 VRR
And not use windows
Beautiful!
Thanks! The inside is less beautiful ๐ฌ
Need to get custom cables, but yeah, bit off topic ๐

"I spoke too soon. Everything was working great yesterday. Couldn't have been happier. Then today arrived. The option to select 120 Hz is no longer available. It's just gone. I am stuck in 4K/60 mode. I tried restarting, unplugging the cable, going into desktop mode, etc.
For the time being I will just stick to 420 mode using my HDMI. I can't really tell a visual difference anyway. DP to HDMI cables are always going to be finicky and I don't have to the patience to deal with something that can randomly just stop working." I don't think I'm going to bother with such a crazy workaround
Oh shit, so the caldigit adapter is still the best bet
Seems like it for now. Perhaps a DP 2.0 to HDMI 2.1 adapter would work better, but I haven't found one that exists
has anyone run into an issue where a game will seem to run fine initially, but the second time you run it, the system seems to freeze from what I'm guessing is the display driver crashing?
CalDigit ACTIVE DP 2.0 to HDMI 2.1 8K Video Adapter
Active DisplayPort 2.0 to HDMI 2.1 Adapter *Currently Apple computers, including Apple Silicon Macs, can only support HDMI 2.0b through their Thunderbolt ports. This will limit possible resolutions up to 4K 60Hz.
Yep, that's the right one. No issues in 2 months of use so far
@malex I assume it doesn't add any (noticable) latency?
None
also you've completely ruined my perception of HDR on my system haha. I figured it was working fine for the past years (just with a little brightness issues that I attributed to Linux).
did you have luck with LACT and your 9070? I haven't tried overclocking yet myself, but was able to boost performance in games that don't use full clocks.
Is anyone having issues with The Last of Us Part I? The game reports just 6GB of VRAM despite RX 9070 XT having 16 GB. Also the game runs slow. I tried the flag SteamDeck=0 %command% but it didn't help.
So far I've not had any crashes with Firefox not open on my 2nd monitor mid game.
What performance are you getting in TLOU?
Very poor, like 10 fps
thats definitely abnormal, i think my performance is on the low end but not like that
Btw, I wrote about a crash when alt-tabbing yesterday. Happy to report I haven't seen it happen anymore without MangoHUD overlay running
The key with amd cards is to undervolt rather than push the core clocks. I undervolted my 9070 by -100mv and now it runs at around 3Ghz, which is 300mhz above its advertised boost clock. Seems stable for now. I canโt push the power limit up yet, probably a vbios limitation of some kind. But if you can, max out the power limit and play with undervolts
oh wait we can do that now?
Yeah LACT got updated with RDNA4 support. I had to reinstall it to get the latest. For some reason my ostree img never updated since September
i just opened it and it showed up! pretty cool
ill tinker with it some tonight
which version?
0.7.2 is what you want
damn im on 7.1
Is there a command to install it?
Are you on bazzite and install Lact with ujust?
If so just update and restart your system
Saying error.
If after that it doesnโt update,
โrpm-ostree resetโ restart and โujust install-lactโ
I'll try a full ujust update
Yeah exactly
However keep in mind rpm-ostree reset will delete any layers you have. In case youโve done anything wacky
Nah dont think so
If you decide to, just check rpm-ostree status and make sure you donโt have other layers
Whats the console command for that?
rpm-ostree status
ujust
woops haha
Iโm on my phone and canโt be bothered to use the code quotes
nah no ujust
;rpm-ostree status`

Yeah just Lact. Did running updates are normal not work?
Restarting just now so I'll see ๐
Ah awesome, we're cooking.
Thanks for the heads up.
Cooler control got a nice update too.
I'm getting like, 70% the performance of people benchmarking TLOU on youtube at 4k Ultra
I don't have an x3d cpu so IDK if that is contributing to the disparity
Definitely a mesa issue. The x3d cpus shouldnโt be giving that much of a gain on a midrange card like this
Gonna try 260w, 2800mhz memory and -90mV and see where it goes.
Definitely not getting your performance with TLOU... I am using a Sapphire Pulse 9070 xt. I hope it's just Mesa and not something else fancy.
Do not mess with the memory. Itโs gddr6 already pushed to its limits
Reporting indicates youโll actually lose performance due to some of its error correcting features
I'm on GE-Proton9-26, I had issues getting the game to open on GE-Proton9-20.
Also I'm on bazzite testing but the mesa version is the same as stable so I don't think that should change anything
I am using Proton Hotfix, I will try GE asap.
@emmenem Any other games?
Currently sekiro will not let me go full screen. It crashes. Thatโs the only issue Iโve had with my card
A part from TLOU and Indiana Jones and the great circle that has graphical glitches (fixed with Mesa 21.1+), the other games I have tested run great (Black Myth Wukong Benchmark, Jedi Survivor, Horizon 2, Zoe 2, Jedi Fallen Order and other 2d games).
are the two things we want/need for better support of 9070 on linux an updated kernel and a more updated Mesa?
and I should ask: anyone else having problems with 9070 waking from sleep? it seems half the time it doesn't wake properly (or at all -- black screen, can't SSH in)

@malex -- this is what I've had from my 7080/9070 since I've had them over HDMI: tv reports 4K/120 + HDR10 with working VRR. in some games, like I said, the colors are a little off or have banding, but several games like RE:4, perform and look great. are you not able to get these enabled over HDMI?
FSR4 is still not supported
Yup, I've seen this happen
@Kipz there was a firefox update/refresh this morning, my tabs stopped crashing after I applied it
Also thanks for the suggestion to try out LACT. I was originally planning to wait until things become more stable in the factory preset before experimenting with OC on top of it.
But your discussion has sparked my curiosity. Just applying -100 mV undervolt with no other changes I see my 9070XT boosing to 3300 and above in CP2077 with Path Tracing! That's way above what I expected!
Not at 120hz. I think it may be possible to get VRR under some circumstances with hdmi 2.0. But you can see that itโs 4:2:0, which is low quality
It might be due to the lg oleds supporting Freesync specifically
got it. but I will say the VRR has been working great from 120fps all the way down to 50fps or so, when the (standard) flickering comes in
and makes sense that 4:2:0 would be the cause of the non-ideal HDR!
In sdr 4:2:0 I think itโs manageable
thx for having a wealth of knowledge on this stuff...
Below 48 fps you're in LFC territory, which support on Linux has always been spotty
How are you able to update LACT? Iโve tried to uninstall and reinstall to update it. Also, just doing a normal install to see if that updates it and it stays at 0.6.0-0
How are you installing it?
I will also say, at the end of the day you could do 1440p120hz at full rgb without much issue on 2.0. And perhaps freesync will work on it
Just opening the terminal and ujust install-lact
That is weird. The layered Lact seems to be inconsistent
I made sure everything is up to date, and Iโve tried probably 3-4 times rebooting and it just stays at this version.
What version of bazzite are you on? The -deck image?
I think something happened to the ostree images around that time, because my 0.5.6 got stuck too. Do `rpm-ostree resetโ, restart, and then โujust install-lactโ
My 9070xt works fine gaming on Bazzite as long as I don't try ray tracing, I tried enabling ray tracing on Spiderman 2 and it just crashes
Stupid mobile
Iโll try resetting it. How do I find the deck image in the terminal? (Sorry, still a little new)
You donโt need to change it. I was just wondering. When you start your computer does it go to a desktop or into steamos game mode
Game mode.
So you have the deck image. That means you have to manually update. Iโd still do an โrpm-ostree resetโ first since I think those images broke somehow.
Rebooting now, but it looks like that worked.
Mine seems to be steady at about 240w power cap, -300mhz and -90mV. Boosting to about 3000 but at about 220w average.
Pretty much same out of the box power but with way less draw.
Worked. Thanks bud!
Anyone else experiencing their 9070xt fans not spinning when using the new version of lact?
Sounds good. I still need to play around with it a bit more
XT?
85% power seems to be the sweet spot for my card. Running around -70mV gets it back to full performance in Superposition
Is LACT persistent on reboots and in gamescope? It says it is persistent across desktop sessions so I assume so?
I'm not sure about gamescope but I can confirm it persists through desktop sessions. I learned that the hard way lol
It is if you've installed via ujust and not crashed
LACT will eventually reset if it crashes too many times in my experience
Right now things are kind of unstable. If the performance works for you then run with it. XTs seem a bit more fickle than non-XTs at the oment. My non-XT will run with whatever I throw at it within reason
But I'm restricted as heck. My power limit is maxed out of what LACT can give it out of the box. On windows you should be able to push it to 270 watts, but I can only give it 245 watts
but I need the 25 watts to cope with the fact that I bought the gimped card. Granted I bought it before all the prices seems to overclock beyond what I can do
Yeah idk what truly stable undervolt will end up being for my card, but I was able to run a cyberpunk benchmark successfully (no RT though yet)
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/undervolted-rx-9070-xt-beats-rtx-5080-rx-9070-and-9070-xt-models-with-heavy-coolers-have-massive-oc-headroom this is what I have worked around. Granted, this is with only manipulating TDP and voltage. RDNA4 will go as hard as it can within the power limit provided it seems
Tom's Hardware
Undervolted RX 9070 XT beats RTX 5080 โ RX 9070 and 9070 XT models ...
Multiple online tests affirm the power of AMD's undervolting curve
No need to mess with the clocks unless you are truly overclocking in order to beat 3DMark scores. In which case, you should be on windows
I love this powercolor reaper, it stays like, 15-20 degrees cooler, doesn't sound like a jet engine, and seems to undervolt better than my xfx 6950 xt did
Also Derbauers undervolt on his XT is so absurd you would almost think that perhaps they sent him a binned card. But I'm just a conspiracy theorist
my Gigabyte 9070 went up like $100 today on Microcenter's website, so I think I made the right call lol
yea AMD paying the stores to get it down to MSRP is a clear sign its not a price that will hold, good value
This card hits hard. I undervolted by 100mV and it's running at 3300mhz and staying below 60c!
What model? msrp?
i think im getting around 2900mhz on my -70mV, does that sound right?
Gigabyte AORUS Radeon RX 9070 XT ELITE 16G -- massive cooler. didn't expect it to be so big.
on an XT?
yeah
Given that you've lowered the power limit yeah
It just depends. I think the best results will come from maxing the power limit and optimizing the undervolt. Just depends on your priority
289W iirc
blows my mind that undervolting a card makes it faster...!
these are clearly so much more power efficient than other stuff. Probably because they don't have any use for higher bins given that they've locked themselves out of the high end
When I say max the power limit, I mean leave it untouched at its maximum and only adjust the udnervolt. Unless you want efficiency. For efficiency you're doing pretty good. I doubt the extra clocks will get much
yeah im going for efficiency right now
i may consider overclocking if it gets me to a threshold like maintaining a certain framerate
You have more units at around the same clocks as my non-XT. Probably 10% better roughly if I had to gues
If we had VRR none of this would matter, but such is life
I need to hit 120, otherwise I'm dropping to 60
no VRR? it works on my AMD cards with Bazzite and my LG CX.
i get around 90FPS 1% lows in cyberpunk at 4k with DF optimized settings so I cap it at 80 fps since i have a 240hz panel
I do not get VRR in order to get a proper color space. We've talked about it a bit I think
ah, I didn't realize that was the trade off. thanks for clarifying.
90 on 120hz should be fine too
The fact is that HDMI 2.1 or a darn displayport on your TV would make it so you could have th best of all worlds
But I think that 2.0 120hz at 420 should be fine with Freesync
Iโm eager to get that adapter in the mail.
Just keep in mind that adapter means you do not get VRR anymore
VRR is nice if latency matters more than image quality
And all of this only matters in HDR. if you are using SDR than 420 is fine
I just wish that Cyberpunk's visuals impressed me enough to use it as a benchmark for performance. Outside of path tracing I don't view it as a showcase
Given that Ass Creed Shadows supports the steam deck on day 1, looks absolutely incredible, and isn't running on Unreal Engine, I think it'll be a good benchmark
(visually)
I only recently got it, literally because I wanted a mainstream benchmark game for the card lol
OK, perhaps I've looked at the same save games of Cyberpunk for the last 5 years that it just doesn't do it for me anymore, lmao
I don't know how youtubers do it
FSR4'd path traced cyberpunk at 30fps is what I want to replay it
Unfortunately a lot of these newer games rely so much on upscaling that we're at a loss until FSR4 works. FF16 is a good example
Yeah
Thatโs about what I get as well on my XT Hellhound. -100 mV 3300 MHz. I had to double check what values are other people reporting online to make sure itโs not a measurement error, because it seemed too good to be true.
@tacomilkshake @xxNotorioussss I booted up Ghost of Tsushima this morning to get a good comparison picture between 8-bit 420 and 10-bit 444 in HDR. Unfortunately my phone camera cannot properly capture it well enough. I will admit that being 10-bit is much more important than 444. The real killer of IQ in HDR is the 8-bit color space. I also tested a solution I saw on reddit to resolve the banding in Game Mode which is to enable developer mode and turn on "Force Composite". It is a night and day difference in Ghost of Tsushima which has crazy banding in the sky. I don't know what game mode is doing but hopefully it gets fixed out of the box soon. I'd be curious to see if this helps the image when at 8-bit 420 HDR too.

The second picture is exactly what I have with Monster Hunter Wilds, you can clearly see the lines
Iโm not home at the moment, but I can do more testing when I get home
I should get the adapter next Monday.
At 8-bit 420 there is some noticeable banding in the sky thats not there at 10-bit. However, with Force Composite on its still far better
My adapters (and the cable) arrive tomorrow... but work... so, will probably be testing this weekend.
Any plans to release the updates from this thread to the testing branch?

Yes before the mesa went down
Got it. TLOU defaulted to the integrated gpu. Selecting the right card fixed the issue. So far so good.
@Kyle Gospo https://github.com/bazzite-org/mesa fixes from here applied
git format-patch --stdout --zero-commit --no-renames -k mesa-25.0.1 > ../ref/terra/anda/lib/mesa/bazzite.patch
heres the commandWhat performance are you seeing in TLOU now?
I don't use MangoHud so I cannot tell the exact fps. 4k ultra settings and the game runs just fine. I can install MangoHud and report back if you are interested.
I would like to know if I'm getting similar performance to you since windows benchmarks appear to be much higher
i have tried my luck using chatgpt to patch the commits from https://github.com/bazzite-org/mesa using your command too, but to no avail. I guess i will wait for the testing-branch with those commits to come out. This has short circuited my brain, i really appreciate what you guys do. Thx for your hard work!

@Kyle Gospo you want to handle mesa? Fix some crashes for next stable
Probably not corruption
Yeah can do later today or tomorrow
?
No rush from my side
Like add a patch and pr to terra
Yea
I ordered a gigabyte 9070 xt gaming oc from newegg and it was 1099 CAD, 140 dollars over msrp โฆ. But itโs been the only card I have been able to order since launchโฆ. So it is what it is.
I got a powercolor hellhound 9070 xt at launch day for 760 usd
I lucked out
I really wanted to get an msrp one but they immediately sold out online and I DID sell my rtx2080ti to be able to buy a 9070xt so I bit the bullet
seeing what has transpired since... I dont regret it
Whatever new testing branch update came out today it completely fixed the random freezes I've been having these past few days
Thank u bazzite devs <3

Getting this text on Forza horizon 5.
strange! I haven't had any problems FH5 myself...
I'll try a restart see if that fixes it. What version are you on?
According to Mangohud, TLOU is between 45 to 50 FPS, 4K, ultra settings (amd 9700x). I cannot tell Windows performance, since I don't use it.
That matches the performance I saw in the opening cutscene
Actually I think I was around 55 average and it dipped below 50 when looking at the mirror as Sarah, then going up in the 70s when looking away
Restart fixed it
my DisplayPort to HDMI adapters arrived (both the CalDigit & CableMatters), and while the color space was better than 4:2:0 I couldn't get Bazzite to output 4k/120fps on either...
and FreeSync didn't work, but VRR did. dunno if there's a differnce.
VRR definitely doesn't work on the CalDigit adapter and never has. I would double check that your cable is 2.1
interesting. it must have worked with the Cable Matters adapter then. cables are 2.1 certified -- I actually hate them for how thick they are haha. I plan to try the DP to HDMI cable later, but not sure if I need to reflash the firmware on it first.

new mesa with RNDA4 fixes on the way... ๐
Ray tracing support maybe?
think it's just bug fixes, but I could be wrong!
Or I think the problem is Ray tracing partially works atm. Like the cyberpunk benchmark runs for a while then crashes
A lot of these fixes are stuff we already shipped via back porting, but we'll have the complete set available on testing soon
LOVE BAZZITE...!
I can't even get Cyberpunk to run.
Heroic syncs saves, says the game is launching, then just goes back to PLAY GAME without ever launching it.
What version of Mesa is flathub using rn?
Might not be new enough
Oh also I got blender 4.4 half working on my arch distrobox. I can use GPU for cycles in the viewport but not when rendering an image
I had no problem running Steam version of Cyberpunk since the initial support for 9070 xt has been added. Played probably 15+ hours with RT and PT cumulatively
Wait then why am I getting crashing with Ray tracing? Hmmm
Hmm... OK, that's handy to know thanks.
Must be how I've got Heroic set up because I'm using the GOG version. I'm a newb to Linux so I'm reticent to do much troubleshooting because I'll probably break things further.
Rules out it being a problem with Cyberpunk generally.
Which version of Proton are you using? Mine says it's using the latest Proton Hotfix

there is definitely something weird with ray tracing, doom eternal won't display anything when running with RT turned on, someone online said this new mesa solves that issue with eternal
but I also have had no issues running RT in cyberpunk
I'm on the latest ge proton. I could try hot fix and see what happens
And I'm on w/e mesa bazzite testing is on atm
I get crashes on Proton Hotfix as well. KDE reports a pageflip timeout amdgpu error
To introduce a new problem to the list, it appears that the hardware encoder onboardthe 9070 will break after a while. I'm sure it's just a mesa issue but when streaming to my steam deck or ipad it will eventually say the device doesn't support any codecs and refuse to connect me.
a va-api issue*
dolphin emulator is like
straight up not having a good time
can anyone get any game to run at full speed even in native gamecube res?
I tried a couple of games just now and yeah, some of them aren't great
cant even get sunshine to run at 20 fps ๐
Even Animal Crossing has a bit of hitching
And that's the lightest GC game I'm aware of
its literally an n64 port so yeah lol
good to know its not just me then
I haven't used Dolphin on Linux much, but it's listing "llvmpipe" as the adapter. I think when I still had my 2080 it listed the actual card there
yeah I noticed the same
Quick test in Cemu, WWHD is running pretty much the same way
It also identifies the GPU the same way. So something seems off, but I'm nowhere near knowledgable enough to determine what
I opened up Sonic Adventure 2 Dreamcast on RetroArch and got like 3 fps lol
I fired up Ocarina of Time and it worked fine on the title screen at least. So lighter/older emulation still works fine as far as I can tell
That's a pretty high end game
It probably shouldn't be on a 9070 XT
has anyone had their 9070 wake from sleep successfully? mine is always a blank screen, and inability to SSH in to reboot it or check logs. I always have to power off using the button on the PC to recover.
(this is in gamemode)
I'd welcome any tips for capturing logs from this...
Mine does. I think only once it didnโt. However, the Xbox controller do not work after sleep so itโs kinda useless at this stage for me.
Iโve had that problem. And then my 7800 XT system refuses to sleep; it just goes to sleep then immediately wakes back up again
Thanks. Mine is doing this every time -- I haven't had a successful wake from sleep yet. Going to try and capture logs using
journalctl -b -1
.On the latest bazzite testing with mesa 25.0.2-2 I was able to run the cyberpunk benchmark with raytracing a couple times with no crashing finally.
My RT performance seems to be a bit lower than Gamer's Nexus benchmarks but my raster is slightly faster than their raster
I will be testing Alan Wake 2 RT shortly
Anyone tried running LLMs? Ramalama seems to recognize the GPU and load the model into vram but times out when I prompt it
from reviewing my logs, I'd guess my sleep issues are caused by my system having both an iGPU, and dedicated GPU (7090 xt)... strangely this never occured with my iGPU + 6800xt system.

Can anyone get gimp working properly?
I'm tryna change brush shape and it just crashes immediately when I select one
Not a flatpak issue cus it's working on my rx6400
:thonking:
nvm its a flatpak issue
its doin it on another computer
Run "flatpak list" and you'll see flatpak is still using Mesa 24. We should wait they upgrade to the latest version (Mesa 25). I have exactly the same problem with Heroic Games Launcher.
Oh no wonder Firefox and vencord are like
Not working right
Oh and emulators
:empty:
This explains a lot
Oh yeah heroic would just straight up not launch cyberpunk for me
I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling it
Colossal waste of time
You could try running
To get mesa-git beta flatpak and use
FLATPAK_GL_DRIVERS=mesa-git flatpak run my.app.name
I was able to get UnleashedRecomp to find the Vulkan backend with that but there was another error that prevented me from running that particular flatpakIs this why nothing I run out of heroic will launch now? Didnโt even consider it
May switch to a distrobox arch version so that itโs using up to date mesa then
Anyone else having problems to get Waydroid working with the 9070?
You have to wait for waydroid itself to update
They have their own copy of Mesa that exists inside of their Android install
Thanks for the info. Hope they will update it soon
9070 users, have you experienced anything like this?
https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1353390848590479410
I'm pretty sure it's related to the GPU support
I think I can wait but will keep in mind
Alan Wake 2 RT is pretty remakable. In the opening scene I can get 40-60 FPS at 4K FSR Balanced with Medium Preset, Low RT. That is about double what my 7800 XT could do from memory. "Low" RT in AW2 really just means no path tracing
It also appears that GE-Proton has fixed the dependencies you had to dig into protontricks and install before. Plug n play now using Lutris
and that's considering the current state of drivers, I would assume that things should only get better from here
Yeah. But afterwords framerate tanks to around 30 and it has crashed. Hopefully gets better
Switched to the Heroic appimage and that works. It uses the system mesa if I understand that correctly
Yeah it does
Wukong is crashing during gameplay. Like consistently. Iโve tried amdvlk drivers and they seem to fix the crash but the game runs poorly on amd driver. I am on testing branch by the way. And Iโve also encountered a lot of issues with waking from sleep. Latest testing branch seems to have solved any issue related to the wake up, at least with ff7 remake (Iโve also disabled expo and removed all changes I did to the curve optimizer of the cpu). Wukong seems to break wake up though, even with amd drivers. Iโm loving bazziteโฆbut I hope things can get a little bit more stable with my 9070xt cause right now it has been a mess to make things work
Waking up from sleep isn't working for me either, massive graphical issues that only get fixed with a proper reboot. I'm on the latest testing branch with MESA 25.0.2 now and Indy works. I don't have Wukong so can't test that one. Everything for now seems to run nicely except for MHW whioch is still stuck at 100 watt power usage.
I'm on latest testing and still getting crashes. What's weird is that the game crashed and not the whole system, but it basically freezes the monitor that the game was running on. Any ideas?
And then it bounces back to the menu? You can still hear the movement of your mouse/controller in the menu?
usually yes, that's what happens to me also with wukong
sometimes it does a soft reboot to gaming mode , sometimes it freezes on screen but i can hear the menu working behind the frozen screen
I decided to let wukong go for the moment, although that was one of the major reasons i wanted to have a "living room pc", and started playing at FF7 that's working nicely with proton experimental (i had some weird graphical glitches with the latest stable proton) and does work with wake up nicely it seems if you exclude the audio crackling at the beginning of the wake up process
but i think this is still less than stable obviously...there are major problems with mesa drivers and the 9070 series support at the moment...and i think that this is impacting also the sleep/wake up process
this is my issue opened on the mesa gitlab repo btw
GitLab
[gfxhub] page fault - Black Myth: Wukong crashes every time I play ...
Description In 25.0.1 this problem was less obvious. It caused some crashes but they were more sparse. With 25.0.2 this is...
I no longer get this on cyberpunk rt but I do get it on gtav enhanced rt.
It's a very strange freeze. I can actually use my second monitor but I don't think there's a way to fix the freeze besides restarting my PC.
Yeah sounds the same. Ah well, fingers crossed fix comes sooner than later.
I wish I had modern games to test lmao
the most demanding games I have are rdr2 cyberpunk and.... starfield....
Nevermind, it appears those glitches that i thought i solved by switching proton version are in fact a consequence of the waking up process. It did the same just a while ago, had to reboot the pc to make them disappear. Basically it's almost like it's unloading parts of the scenario from the screen...i see all black around the pg ๐
tested AC this week, that runs absolutely fine and looks gorgeous with the 9070XT
are you running a single GPU, or do you also have an iGPU? I'm thinking the combo might be contributing to my issues.
got a 7800X3D but I disabled that one in the bios
i could see it in LACT, after disabling it in the bios it's not seen in LACT anymore
Iโve seen this happen with very heavy RT games, though I havenโt seen it recently in Cyberpunk. It happens very frequently in Portal RTX and Half Life 2 RTX. I have iGPU disabled in BIOS
The RTX mods are free on Steam, so they are easily available benchmarks
Anyone try to use Waydroid? Mine fails to load with a 9070 xt
Best I could find online is it's a driver issue but curious if anyone other than myself is having issues
Itโs been discussed a couple of days ago https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1347285101872152688/1353390690939179109
It's in deadlock which don't think has rt?
Not at my computer rn, but in my case it was amdgpu pointer related error, not deadlock
Ah thank you, sorry for not searching back
@malex lets see if this works:

A few people on reddit have reported black screens. One had a samsung display that supported up to 144HZ, so he had to enable display safe mode in big picture before changing the resolution and refresh to the proper 4k120hz
I have an LG G3 and so far so good in desktop mode
Yeah LG seems to be perfect
VRR doesnโt work, thatโs correct right? I can see only 60fps in game mode, do I have to change settings in game mode?
Well, you'll want to manuall select the resolution instead of auto detect in game mode. And no, VRR will not work
If that doesnt work, you'll want to verify your cable is an HDMI 2.1 cable
Just tried avowed, 4K with low settings with 120hz in settings applied but still does 60 max. And yeah I specifically got 2.1 cables for my ps5/series x too
I wasn't able to get 4K120fps with that adapter
it just didn't show up in Steam settings
So they are definitely the correct cables
Where are you setting the refresh rate? In display settings of Game Mode?
Display settings on desktop is 120, ingame also 120, but the right menu in game mode only shows 60 max
HTPC or "deck" version of bazzite?
HTPC, AMD, KDE version
OK, so, the "Game Mode" that you boot into outside of your desktop is a different environment from KDE. You need to set the resolution and refresh rate separate from that
You need to, in game mode, go to settings > display > and uncheck automatic resolution setting. From there, select what you need
Gotcha, I missed that completely, let me try that
That did it!
Aw yeah
Unfortunately no VRR

Yeah I know, maybe one day when the hdmi dicks get some sense into them
Also as I stated before, on first boot it will not use the right color space in my experience. You'll need to enter desktop mode and back on fresh boot. You can check your color space by mashing the green button on your LG remote

Good stuff
Nice one thanks! Worth the expensive adaptor haha
Don't forget to enable developer settings and turn on "Force Composite" to get rid of banding in HDR
Yeah I tried that too, makes a massive difference! RGB 12b 4l12 HDR10 is what I need right?
I assume that's close to RGB. My TV only ever outputs 10b RGB
Actually it might say that in HDR too, I'll have to check when I get home
I think avowed just crashed my whole machine on 120hz ๐
9070s be crashin in general. I'd avoid much RT
Oh thatโs fully off
Undervolt?
Yeah, but only a little
dat prolly it
Played hours and hours of Hogwarts on ultra 4K
Hard to say right now with how unstable it is on linux
Yeah but at 60 right? Your gpu probably wasn't pushed that hard
Avowed put on low and rt off just to test 120fps
Very true! Should do more testing indeed
Hmm no it wasnโt undervolted
Probably just standard instability then
Or hell the game just crashed. Does happen
I mean it is Xbox ๐ฅฒ
jeez the color banding in all Playstation ports is very bad...i'm going to try this as soon as i can
Yeah, here is my example in Ghost of Tsushima. World of difference https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1347285101872152688/1351835183887814686
Itโs such a massive change that one setting, you could count the rings around the moon in Ghost of Tsushima
nice
It's partially because Playstation titles likely have high quality HDR implementations which make the banding more noticeable. Most games have cruddy HDR
Exactly that screen shot I meant
cause you didn't see clouds in death stranding
And now itโs running fine ๐
clouds were so bad that i felt eyes fatigue at some point
for me, in the display settings of game mode. 4k120 isn't there, but 4k60 is. with raw HDMI cable, I see 4k120.
Strange. Do you have another cable to try just in case? it giving you 120hz on a 2.0 output means nothing, because its still the 18gbyte bandwidth
aye, I can, it's just my TV is on the wall with a narrow wall mount that makes changing HDMI cable absolutely terrible...
I've been also meaning to try the DP to HDMI cable I got...
Also depending on the TV I suppose a PORT might only be 2.0
LG CX, port 4
All CX ports are 2.1
Love my LG TV...
Yeah I have a CX too, I don't think I've owned a single TV this long
haha same. especially with newer versions adding little!
I'd like the higher peak brightness really
I want them (or anyone) to fix VRR/freesync flickering in dark/grey scenes -- not sure if it's possible or not though
From what I understand it's just an inherent weakness of OLED panels atm
HDMI 2.1 drivers on Linux, thatโs what we need ๐ฅฒ
I used to get flickering on my IPS LCD LG display so it's definitely not only an OLED issue
I think VRR can cause flickers in general
I do get it from time to time on my OLED but far more than on the LCD tho
No, it's not only OLED, but OLEDs tend to suffer from it pretty consistently from what I understand
It's just more noticeable on OLED probably
Could be that, yeah
Mainly bc pixel brightness = panel brightness
Can i force my cx to do 1440p? Lol
In an LCD the backlight is always consistent
It should work if you manually set it in Game Mode settings
Is that only on the 42in model?
No, like, I mean in Bazzite
The CX should support 1440p output if you select it on any given device
For some reason I canโt select 1440p120, only 60, all other resolutions are fine
Weird. Probably a steam os issue
ironically 1440p120 would be the resolution you would only need 2.0 for
Yeah strange
Gotcha. Yeah when i swap to 1440p on windows my lg still shows 4k. Iโll give a go in bazzite
I think I got a small performance boost in GTAV RT but it still crashes on latest bazzite testing
Hey guys. How's 9070 xt compatibility atm?
Tried it last week and it kept freezing amd crashing
Raytracing unstable and I'm unable to use a lot of gpu accelerated programs with it like davinci resolve, real video enhancer, blender (can't render to file)
I see. I guess I will try it again in a month or two
Its good enough for me although I am getting a bit antsy not being able to use some of this stuff. gaming without rt works fine and general web browsing is fine of course
Damn even with the flatpak version of prism launcher using mesa 24, the 9070xt is just casually dropping over 1000 frames at only 50w of power not even using 20% of the gpu
Actually insane
yeah minecraft is crazy cpu limited
try some RT shaders ๐
I see a new stable update with Mesa 25.0.2. Nice!
What's the downside to having firefox via rpm-ostree apart from slower updates? I just installed it in order to have a non crashing with functioning hw acceleration.
Wukong still crashing with new testing release
I saw it dropped with a new mesa version but nothing concerning the page fault I guess
I wanted to link a mesa issue I came across in case it would help, but then I noticed the reporter's name ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
it was mine?
๐
Yep ๐
One issue Iโve noticed happen occasionally is that sunshine will break and moonlight will tell me the host device doesnโt support any encoders. Only fix is restarting / entering desktop mode. Will suck when this happens while Iโm away from home
Hmm I cant seem to get sunshine to work

odd just running "sunshine" got it to start up successfully... i dont get it
does bazzite auto update? my pc had been working fine ish these past few days but its back to freezing every now n then
Yes, you can also run "ujust update" in a terminal window to update and then reboot.
You have to reboot after update to run the latest
well the problem is that it updated and now it broke stuff
๐ซ
You can switch to previous builds too
Do you remember which one worked best for you?
nope
im in the testing branch so,,
Ah darn you'll just have to try different previous test builds
"ujust setup-sunshine only enables the systemd service that allows it to run in the background. It appears you just disabled it and then checked its status. I would run "ujust setup-sunshine" again
After restart, probably
No luck after reboot,
The website console isnt active either. If i try to start via app from the start menu it shows a loading icon but then nothing happens. If I run "sunshine" from command line console starts up. If I right click on the start menu and say run in terminal it opens a terminal and runs, and console starts up. I dont get it

May need to rebase? Sunshine was already enabled by the time I installed my card so idk if starting it is broken. But I don't see how the gpu would break Sunshine service
Yea ok odd ill wait for next version of stable
kinda figured maybe that was it
I think it' ll work running manually
The config for video was a bit confusing too, it says to specifically look for display ID under troubleshooting, but i dont see the exact line. Did you have to manually configure in the web console for display capture device and monitor?
No, but I only have one screen connected to my HTPC
It says to look for something like "Info: Detected display: DP-1 (id: 3) connected: false" under troubleshooting tags in the logs but I dont see any line with "detected" I can see the name of the one I want to use "DP-3" but I dont see "id" mentioned anywhere.
[2025-03-27 08:28:07.778]: Info: Name: DP-3
[2025-03-27 08:28:07.778]: Info: Found monitor: Samsung Electric Company Odyssey G95SD
I can probably trial and error that though
Will give it a shot this evening
oh any idea if its better to have integrated videocard capture or 9070xt. I kind of assume the 9070xt but its also rendering the game on the system... so maybe integrated? Again something i can play with.
Depending on your CPU the 9070 likely has a better video encoder
9800x3d
I believe they have rdna2 integrated graphics. Donโt know if a hardware encoder is included. Even if it does, it does not support AV1 and the 264/265 encoders before rdna3 are low quality
this thread i huuuge.. what is the state of this? is it possible to create a sticky post about it somwhere? maybe a page on the bazzite docs website?
Still quite unstable doing anything but non-ray tracing gaming
this is our home now... ๐ -- we have no where else to talk about 9070 cards on this discord
so i should hold off buying a little more then?
no real rush thankfully
If you do other GPU accelerated tasks you may be disappointed currently. I do but I'm okay with testing and waiting for full functionality
only gaming for me
(also unleashed recomp just doesn't play because the mesa flatpak doesn't work yet)
i got a rog ally x, and the plan is to do egpu
I'm using my 7090xt pretty successfully for gaming with egpu... as noted some occassional freezes, RT is difficult, etc.
Retroarch seems to not recognize the card or something. Plays at really low fps
ok thanks saves me some time!
If it's the flatpak, it's because freedesktop needs to update Mesa as well
i was running 7700XT as eGPU. the experience is ok, but not great. Bazzite won't recognize external monitors in gaming mode with the eGPU for some reason, so the eGPU works best in Bazzite desktop mode, kind of defeating the purpose. The performance gain is good in some games, but rapidly drops off due to combo of CPU bottleneck and bandwith cutoff due to limitations of Thunderbolt connection. I wouldn't bother running high end GPUs as your eGPU, your performance will get bottlenecked while most of the GPU's frames will be sitting idle while the CPU tries to catch up. depends on the game ofc.
I am getting this error fairly frequently playing throne and liberty -
Likely has to do with Ray tracing
Google keeps giving me mixed results on whether the game has ray tracing or not
naturally there isn't an obvious "turn off ray tracing"
I turned lighting down to medium ๐คท
Well that was good for a while...
Is there a good way to recover other than holding down the power button on this PC?
I haven't found one. It feels like it could be recoverable though since stuff still happens in the background after it freezes
Yes the mocking on discord before I restart is great
Turned everything to low and I didn't crash for a long time, although I was getting hitching near the end - not sure if these are related
There's a fix for RTX remix crashes I've been complaining about, but it's not been merged yet. Good to see the fixes coming in fast.

I was testing with firefox but other apps are giving me the same errors
Yeah it seems to not work too well
remove the flatpak and its service, thats your issue from the looks of it
Hmm I thought I had but I'll try harder with that thanks
The service said it was trying to run flatpak sunshine
At least in that image
Hmm it looks like I removed the flatpak as I thought, sunshine doesnt show up in the "flatpak list" command. I will rebase a bit later this morning and maybe that will get everything pointing to where it should.
When I removed the flatpak I just right clicked on the application (saw 2 sunshines listed) and selected uninstall. It removed one instance, and the other would not uninstall. I assume thats the one included in the base bazzite image.
ok new strat reinstalling sunshine flatpak and uninstall using command line vs GUI
Ok got it thanks @HikariKnight had to remove the service that the enable command was symlinking too, when i did that it generated one without the faltpak sunshine data still present
is there no hardware encoding for amd on linux? I installed the obs rpm with rpm-ostree command cus the flatpack was basically unusable but in the encoder only software (openH264) is listed even tho it should have acces to system mesa an whatnot right?
might this be an obs issue or is it that there's no encoder yet for the 9070 series?
oh if you go on advanced settings and set the encoder to ffmpeg vaapi it lets you select the gpu
neat
I should probably retry this on the flatpak but considering the preview on the canvas was showing fine on rpm versiona dn on the flatpak it was all screen teary and laggy I dont have high hopes
will report back in a bit
Still getting the weird game freeze, but it's just the monitor and the game is still running fine. Like I can tab out and see it running in the tab menu, it's just the screen that's frozen.
So like the preview tab for the game screen shows but the actual full screen game does not?
Has anyone been able to use any video editor? I'm trying to use shotcut but it crashes when I try to import a video
Works for me with some old mp4s from heroes of the storm
On today's stable release
Davinci resolve does not work for me yet. All videos are black and don't actually play
Just an FYI but I updated to firefox 137 via Discover just now and it looks like they added compatible mesa drivers for my 9070xt. CPU isnt going way up whebn I watch youtube and the option to force hardware acceleration showed up for me

hoping it cuts down on freezing issues too, will have to see how it goes
if it doesn't just install the rpm one. That's been working perfectly for me
can you go to this site? https://webglsamples.org/aquarium/aquarium.html
it should look like a 3d fishtank full of fish
if the hardware accel is actually working
Yup, they show up

YEAAAAH
hype
slowly but surely things are improving ๐
So guys whats your experience with 9000 series on bazzite? Any crashes or strange performance compared to 6000/7000 series gpus?
Performance is better than it was last month. Still some instability
What type of instability and do i need update anythinv manually for it to work?
At this point no. Some people are reporting crashes especially during ray tracing. I've noticed the encoder breaks randomly and I have to restart to continue streaming via Sunshine
And how about screen recorder? Works fine or also issues? For me it was working perfectly fine with av1. Just sometimes some strange sound issues in certain games
I'm not sure. I assume recording is probably fine
The issue is likely sunshine and not the card
What kernel version currently we have?
I am at work. Cant check it out
6.13.7-108.bazzite
Pretty good, sunshine working well for me, firefox just updated from discover with mesa drivers so thats rendering off my 9070xt now. No issues with games I've been playing poe2/soulmask/elden ring. My only issues now are around my main monitor, but its 5120x1440 at 240 hz running over a 10ft display port cable into a 4 machine kvm. It displays fine, but fastfetch wont detect it at 240hz refresh (does at 120hz).
I've had no issues with GPU screen recorder using av1
as far as steam games go I havent really had many issues, but ive had many system freezes and hangs especially when screen sharing on discord, worth mentioning I use a 3rd party client called vesktop, screen sharing from web discord on firefox has been p flawless, and aside from that it's been mostly fine
emulators didnt seem to work at all a bit ago but I heard flatpak mesa got updated? I havent tried emulation yet
I had issues pre 9070xt with discord app, all solved by using it in firefox, discord clearly doesn't prioritize the linux app.
Vesktop was fine for me on my 2080ti tho
I am still getting freezes in firefox sporadically on new build. But it is working better, freezes seem to unfreeze vs me having to close and reopen to resolve.
Sometimes my whole DE will lock up and and I can only really restart the system
But that's been happening less and less
Bummer, I havent had to restart, occasional freeze, but i think it has more to do with firefox than the desktop
As far as I can tell it hasn't hit stable yet, Dolphin still struggling hard on my PC
mine is 6.12.12-207. how to update kernel on bazzite
just run a system update. simplest way is to run "system update" from the application launcher
If you prefer, run
ujust update
in the terminalit will have to download entire ISO basically?

That's normal yeah
Once it has finished, reboot and you should be good to go
we still dont have mesa 25.1 right?
latest stable is on 25.0.2-4
Something similar happens to me too
so color support still off it seems
Yea same happens to me
so yeah. my monitor occasionally freezes for no reason. definitelly not stable still on bazzite
Most of my crashes happen if I alt+tab while gaming and I do that a lot, some games like Riftbreaker have been rock solid (except when I turned on ray tracing, instacrash), atleast once my primary screen froze when playing overwatch, but the game kept running, I could hear and even see the game running on my other screen when i tried alt+tabbing and it showed previews on my second screen of all the stuff running. But my primary screen was.... stuck?
Yeah Im still getting freezes where the screen is frozen, but the game is still running in the background. Like when you alt tab to see the carousel of running windows, you can see the game still running. Really weird tbh but for the most part it only happens once every few games. Still frustrating though.
I think 25.0.3 is in testing now, gonna try it out later today
For alt-tabbing freezes, try running the game in borderless instead of fullscreen.
game is borderless
I see, then it might be that the problem is game specific to a greater degree than I thought
For that reason for couple months i am installing win10. I want also to check encoder/fsr4 performance. Amd then switch back to compare with linux
25.0.3 got released yesterday but isn't in any Bazzite test branch yet by the looks of it.
saw this in the main channel, must be a mistake then
You can look at the releases on GitHub and see what the latest stable and testing branches have
https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/releases
guys working on the mesa driver asked me to test another mesa branch...but i don't know how to do it :/
When will the new test release be available with mesa 25.0.3?
in my case all the games i'm playing have problems except one (Solasta). All the other games freezes after few seconds (Wukong) or when resuming from sleep (Death Stranding, FF7, Red Dead 2, The Witcher 3)
Your system is waking up from sleep?
Damn
I actually haven't tried sleep with my new card. My PC used to just instantly wake up whenever I tried to use sleep so I'm used to not using it

I haven't rebooted into it yet though
JeezโฆI was even looking at the page. :coolfingergunscry:
Thanks
Yeah same, the order in terms of date released is all messed up. Used to be latest first regardless of stable or testing.
yeah, my 9070xt system never wakes from sleep... went through this for like a year with my 7800 card early on, and it was eventually fixed to be like 80% reliable at waking.
mine reliably wakes from sleep but had to disable EXPO, remove any kind of undervolting done to the cpu, disable IOMMU on the mobo. My pc always wakes from sleep...the problem is that game are all frozen after a resume or there are a lot of graphical glitches that do not go away without a reboot
testing is on .3 yeah: OpenGL version string: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 25.0.3
anyway, i've just ran a test on 25.0.3...wukong still crashes after a few seconds
anyone willing to help on how to use mesa-git on a custom branch with bazzite?
those are some crazy sacrifices just to be able to wake from sleep
I turned off sleep recently bc I also have my games stop working after I have woken from sleep. Like Helldivers 2 will open but to just a black screen. Works fine after reboot or just preventing sleep. Maybe I'll test later on the new mesa in testing.
worked for me earlier, but only a 1/1 situation so far, so not sure if it's reliable now
Yesโฆbut I basically use sleep as a second skin now. Well not on my pc at least :coolfingergunscry:
I just leave it on when Im at home with like screens turning off but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep
I miss screensavers
Having the screen turn off to avoid burn in on my OLED is SO lame
Mine is hooked to an lg tv so I know the pain. But I prefer having it โoffโ rather than on idle as I already have more than enough tech always on
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the gpu usage jumping to 100% constantly in lact and if anyone else is having their fans not spin up when they're at 50-60c
50-60 is freezing cold, fans not spinning up might be absolutely normal
100% might also be normal depending on clock
100% of the 2d clock speeds is nothing
Okay good to know, just surprising that it lets the vram get so hot before the fan kicks in. I currenly have the same -500mhz -50mv undervolt that I was using in windows 11 when I was trying to resolve the black screen and crashing errors I was having there
The vram is pretty hot (75ยฐC) on idle/low usage on my saphire pulse xt compared to the 5700xt it replaced yeah, but never seen it go over 95ยฐ on full load, so I'm not at all worried
Which logs should I check if I've experienced a lock up and crash, I was hoping I wouldn't be getting these on linux, but here we are
ujust logs-last-boot
or sudo journalctl --no-hostname -b -1
(same thing) will get the logs from last boot. I like to add -r to reverse the output so the latest logs before computer shutdown comes up first
You maye see 'kwin_wayland_drm: Pageflip timed out! This is a bug in the amdgpu kernel driver'
in the logs, that is pretty typical of 9070 XT crashesI mean for the most part on most hardware I generally dont run into anything like that even on my old rtx 2080ti
we just have to be patient and wait for drivers and bugs for this new gpu to get fixed
Hmm I seem to be able to select 9070xt GPU in OBS for video encoder software is only option.
switch to advanced settings and try selecting ffmpeg based encoding
Thanks, been poking around in there but I still dont see VAAPI deice as an option
just "Device 13c0"
prob a flatpak issue which I said I would test but never did
on the RPM version it shows up tho

since it uses system MESA
hmm ok thanks
Hey guys, hows 9070xt support lately? (Just for gaming in gaming mode)
Generally fine, RT can cause crashing though
i am yearning for more non-gaming support (and i guess id like to enjoy a little ray tracing)
Once the freedesktop Mesa updates to 25 that will go a long way for the average user in non-gaming stuff
i've been trying to use mesa-git flatpak for things each time it updates but havent had any luck getting it to work
Any idea why LACT is bringing up this error after updating from 0.7.2?

Rebooted, entered every command as always

Maybe Iโm misunderstanding, but this seems very clear to me
after updating If you have updated LACT
I entered the command already 5 times and rebooted
damn
Just a guess but I might have run into something similar when I installed sunshine from the bazzite install but then also installed sunshine from the Flatpak
https://github.com/ilya-zlobintsev/LACT/issues/447
seems like old bug resurfaced

yeah the copr builds don't have a proper commit hash set, that should be the case equally for gui and daemon though since they literally take it from the same place at build time
are you sure you don't have lact installed from two separate sources at once? like rpm package and flatpak
Mesa flatpak updated! I just tried Minecraft Bedrock Launcher and Sonic Unleashed flatpaks and they both work with the new Mesa!
REAL-Video-Enhancer NCNN backend works too now
Retroarch still having issues
I'm seeing some performance issues on Unleashed Recompiled. The frametimes go crazy when I use MSAA at 4k or go above 4k resolution rendering. GPU usage fluctuates from 89-95% and doesn't max out
Yeah that was the problem. I had 2 different packages installed. Inunstalled via ujust and now the flatpack from github is working.
Dolphin and Cemu flatpaks are also not working correctly
They still report the graphics device as "llvmpipe" instead of 9070 XT
you likely need mesa-git in flatpak if the runtime has a mesa version without rdna4 support by default
llvmpipe is cpu rendering
So for the average plug'n'play user, still waiting for stuff to update then
yeah
it's fairly easy to install though https://gitlab.com/freedesktop-sdk/freedesktop-sdk/-/wikis/Mesa-git
So once the non-beta updates, you just no longer launch apps with that command? And just remove that flatpak remote when you no longer need it
yes
Ok so noob question, if I update mesa flatpak will that get obs flatpak the right mesa version. Or I am I waiting for them to update the mesa obs flatpak specifically?
oh wait it auto updated for me
sweet i can just try it
huzzah it works! no crazy CPU usage, and I can target my GPU (or well at least what it thinks is GPU).

Still doesnt list it as 9070xt, but at least its an option!

For those of you that are experiencing crashes, freeze, pc hangin in sleep mode while a game is runningโฆtry applying RADV_DEBUG=nodcc,nohiz to the steam launch options
thanks. Trying it. The launch option chains are getting a bit ludicrous now lol:
RADV_DEBUG=nodcc,nohiz obs-gamecapture gamescope -f --hdr-enabled -h 2160 --adaptive-sync -- mangohud %command%
You can use scopebuddy to shorten up the Gamescope part and make it easier
Yeah, I've been ogling that for a bit, but will probably do that after I sort out my messy partitioning by just wiping everything and starting fresh
Also if you're using Gamescope you're supposed to call mangoapp within the Gamescope session instead of separately, fyi
Oh, didn't know that.
Just use the
--mangoapp
flag like your HDR and VRR flags in the gamescope argsI was wondering where that space between the -- and gamescope came from. I manage my launch options like I manage my partitions :/
it worked though
It does work, but the Mangohud docs say to use it by calling mangoapp
This trying the new linux for gamers hype thing, expecting it to suck is getting out of hand ๐

OH?
Aw I kept reading
I really wanna start my yearly sunshine playthrough soon

I will be flashing my Gigabyte 9070 with a Gigabyte 9070 XT vbios today. I will inform if my house burns down
Nice good luck!
absolutely good luck
have you done any more testing with obs flatpak? how is it?
It's working for me just fine, anything in particular you want tested?
Seems fine to me, but I don't have much of a use case. Everything worked well streaming to twitch performance wise. I want to try YouTube I hear it has better upload caps.
My only complaint is I can't figure out how to close it via command line cleanly. From reading it sounds like an obs issue.
BrowserSource tbh
I'm using the rpm version but the fedora build version completely lacks any kind of browser integration
Unsure as to why
I use an Android based IP Webcam app to stream a camera feed to my OBS so not only is the stream web based but the controls for it are too
Being able to use browser windows in obs has become quite important to me lately
I threw in a browser source with jchat and it works fine

Dope
I think Ill be switching back then
Thanks!
Was testing some obs stuff and my monitors went black for a few secs then came back like this

My pc fucking GREEN screened ๐ญ
Completely unresponsive
updated and it did it again
might it be because Im using obs through xwayland instead of the wayland version
?
nope
even on wayland it still crashes after a while
I think its happening because im screen sharing on discord while also using obs
any commands I can use to get logs on whatever the hell is happening here?
yea ive been streaming just on discord with no issues I think obs just hates me

Probably ujust logs-this-boot in your case
So
sudo journalctl --no-hostname -b -r

I ran this but I can't find anything that seems like a crash around the time it happens
I don't even see the time where it happened at all it jumped from 9:26:43 to 13:26:44 and it happened around 13:25
:enaHUH:
ok so I ran
sudo journalctl --no-hostname -b -1 -r
and found this
definitely obs related but I feel like there's stuff missing from this dumpI got a crash after watching a youtube video in fullscreen lol, and another time while having terminal full screen over top of tekken 8

Definitely need to check Optiscaler once they have FSR 4 support
I was able to play GTA V with RT for a while with no crashes

anyone had any luck launching stuff from heroic launcher yet?
Tons of people here use Heroic
Any issues you'll want to contact them on their discord they have a full support system
But without a doubt it works fine, turn key install
Make sure you're up to date so you have the latest mesa
it stopped working for me when I switched from nvidia to the 9070xt but admittedly I have not tried it since
I should probably try it again lol
The flatpak has updated to the right mesa, so it should work now. Still sticking with the appimage myself though.

I gave up on Firefox years ago. Using Brave on all my devices and pretty much happy with it.
Cool :verygood:
I don't like the brave logo so I will never use it
Would rather just use ungoogled chromium if I switch back to chromium
But that's not a thing I want to do
Brave is shady at best if you ask me but frankly that's off topic from this thread so Ill refrain from further commenting on the topic
Not liking the logo is a strange reason to not use something
LOL
I just say that cus its funny I genuinely, viscerally, do dislike the logo but my main reasons to keep away from brave is just all the shady shit theyve done in the past. Affiliate link hijacking, the ad injection (which they do sell anonymized data from), the weird crypto currency they have and almost completely control by themselves, the donation soliciting for creators that didnt sign up for the brave donations program, the tor window leaking DNS queries
and there's many more
for a "privacy" product brave sure has done a LOT of controversial things
so I just steer clear from it
mozilla is a sinking ship as well but there's still alternatives with the same engine like librewolf and floorp and zen
Go ahead and update, Mesa 25 is here for flatpaks. Getting fullspeed emu in Dolphin and Cemu now since it recognizes the GPU
Time to polish up my game library and install emudeck ๐
YEEEAAAHHHHHHHHHH
does flatpak being updated to mesa 25 help with apps that use their own version? or do all apps just use the base flatpak mesa?
I would assume the latter. If apps can bundle their own I'd think that would take precedent. I'm still fairly new to Linux though
I tested Dolphin and Cemu myself quick, so I know those are fine
yeah they work for me fine now, I mostly ask because OBS seems to have its own version and I keep getting a hard crash with a green screen after having it run for a while
I'd just revert to the RPM version but that one doesnt have browser source for whatever reason
idk how to make an rpm program run through xwayland either which is needed to get docked browser windows on the UI
:pensivewobble:
I am pretty sure they use their own runtimes, flatpak Handbrake for example uses the Gnome 47 runtime whatever is packaged in that. And it can't see the 9070 xt encoder yet. Also forced it to use the Gnome 48 runtime and that also didn't get it going. So some apps still won't work till other runtimes also update. Hopefully it won't be too long.
if you
it should spit out the runtime that runs with your flatpak app.
handbrake doesnt support vaapi, the flatpak wont even recognize older amd gpu
:wah:
guess i gotta learn ffmpeg
At least some don't use their own runtimes; Dolphin hasn't updated at all this month, but installing the freedesktop runtime update yesterday allowed it to recognize the GPU
Videomass seems like an interesting project. It has no vaapi presets ootb, but making one seems quite doable.
yeah can confirm this
anyone else playing The Last of Us II Remasted on 9070? it's working well, except FS3 powered frame gen isn't working right; everything becomes blurry on any motion.
I'll take a peek, thanks for the rec.
Retroarch is working for me now.
Is anyone playing Indiana Jones and The great circle? Do you know if AMDVLK is still necessary to run the game? Also if I enable ray/path tracing, the game hangs and the system reboots (using the latest bazzite version and AMDVLK drivers).
So I had thought sleep was working okay on my system... Yesterday I brought it out of sleep and fired up a game and was greeted with a flashing light show. Rebooting fixed it, but seems like sleep is still causing issues
amdvlk is not necessary
Can you check if you have
amdgpu: ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout
in the logs? I had a similar problem with this error.
There is a mesa issue for it, and it even has a fix, but it hasn't been merged yet: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/12962GitLab
ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout after waking from sleep - RX 9070 (#12962) ...
Brief summary of the problem: Launching Star Citizen with DX11 after waking system from sleep causes graphical glitches and system stuttering....
i do
indeed that sounds like a fix for the Z13
So the problem not limited to 9070?
my Z13 crashes after a few sleeps in KDE
i swear to god those amd kernel and mesa devs
can they get through one release with their core devices working properly?
Actually Indiana Jones doesn't properly run in gamemode (the screen is all dotted). It does play fine in desktop. To run in gamemode it needs amdvlk.
How can we switch between amdvlk and mesa in a convenient way?
Does Waydroid use Mesa 25? After swapping to 9070xt, it launches but never fully loads.
Edit: I also have an issue where games I play on Lutris run fine, but whatever monitor they're running on seems to stop working and freeze forever until restart. Is there a known fix for this yet?
it does not, waydroid has it's own mesa
have to wait for them to update
Thank you, I didn't know for sure. Regarding the freezing on Lutris games, using
sudo journalctl --no-hostname -b -r
i get

Is anyone else running into issues where under certain loads the clock speed of their 9070 xt will jump above the specs and cause issues. I've been basically relying on the offset options in LACT I just want to make sure this isn't a hardware issue I should be worried about. Thanks.
Above specs meaning?
Core clock sorry, it will boost to like 3400 and lock up my machine. Seems to be fine with the offset though.
it's fine to go over stock clocks, they're designed to do it
crashing while doing it is not fine, that's a sign of a bad card
would test in windows and seek an RMA if it still happens
the clock going up is a firmware feature
I had quite some de freezes before the testing update with mesa 25.0.3 too. It's been pretty smooth sailing for the last 2 weeks or so though. I could still interact with the pc through ssh and all background tasks would still be running, just completely frozen screen.
Do you know if it was related to the clock speed? It seems like it only really happened when a game launches without the offset so it's usually pretty obvious.
I never messed with the clockspeed, only volt offset, but overdoing undervolting has reproducable erorrs, the one I had with the freezing was seemingly random, but most often during raytraced games. If you have windows, trying it on there to see if you get issues there too is the best advice as we're pretty much beta testing right now on linux and won't get support from amd
From what I remember it was an issue in windows as well. Along with some other people I was seeing the max clock speed set to 3450 when opening hwinfo and it seems like it will drop to the proper max depending on what process is running which is really strange. This was with windows 11, not sure if it would be any better on windows 10.
Boosting to a really high boost clockspeed should not give issues really as long as you stay within the power window. I've not had any issues myself on windows 10 with either stock settings or slight undervolt, but I've only ran cyberpunk for about 45mins to see the fps difference with ray tracing against linux. I'd just run stock with the latest drivers till a crash/drivertimeout and send a crash report and support ticket in your situation. We pay enough to have a fully functioning card on the officially supported platforms.
Yeah I think I'll do a clean install on windows 10 just to try it out one last time and then if I still have the issues I'll rma it
been definitely having this issue with freezes when using LACT to undervolt... but here's the thing: some games never lock (Forza Horizon 5), despite getting clocks around 3200/3300 consistently, while others do often within an hour (The Last of Us Part II). given it's variable by game, I think it's less of a hardware issue and more likely a driver issue to be resolved?
temps remain fine in both, and both types of games are seeing 99%/100% CPU usage on the 9070xt
I'm relatively sure it's a driver issue, but the not knowing is the part that gives me pause. In windows right now on a fresh install of windows 10 I can see with hwinfo that the gpu clock sits around 3050 and sometimes gets up to 3250 without any issues so far it's just weird that the gpu clock frequency limit sits at 3450 because that's kind where the gpu spikes in linux on launch for certain games resulting in me needing an offset.
no lockups in windows?
I'm just leaving mh wilds open with hwinfo writing to a file to test since the issues I saw in windows were random, it would usually just be every 6-8 hours or so the computer would crash to a black screen and restart. On linux I never got anything like that, but would instead get my gpu clocks boosting to ~3400mhz on startup of certain game, something I was able to resolve by implementing either an undervolt or a power limit.
Iโve been running with LACT undervolting and default power and frequency limits since LACT added support for 9070xt. I havenโt seen anything like this on my system, despite GPU regularly staying at around 3300 mhz in RT heavy games.
It may sound obvious, but how can you be sure that itโs not the problem with undervolting stability by itself? It could also be variable on a per game basis. Testing on windows sounds like a good idea, if you have an option
Or alternatively, a problem with an overlay like MangoHUD stability if youโre using that to monitor your frequency. Iโve definitely seen that hang my system in some games after prolonged usage
I think I've seen an issue with mangohud as well, but it seemed to be around tdp when I had the overlay up and monitoring power. I'll probably try again in a bit, but in bazzite I only really installed lact and did the undervolt when I noticed the boost would lock up my machine when I would launch something like mh wilds or cyberpunk
fascinating. I've always had mangohud running -- I'll try without it
Which overlay preset? I found that when I used the present that basically shows everything, I would run into issues.
I've got a custom one I created that shows the details I want for the GPU: gpu bridge temp, mhz, etc.
so lot's of details...
Mesa 25.1-rc1 Released With AMD RDNA4 Improvements, Lots Of RADV & ...
Eric Engestrom is once again stepping up to manage the next quarterly Mesa driver feature release and thus today we have the on-time branching of Mesa 25.1 from Mesa Git and already the release of Mesa 25.1-rc1
oooh exciting!
So next month sometime? Not too far away
whats the difference between like
amds mesa drivers and radv
if there's any at all?
oh so radv is just specifically a vulkan driver for amd gpus within mesa?
The AMD driver sucks ass, can only be installed with workarounds, and no one here will help you with it
That's the difference
Forget it exists, focus on radv
lmao
figured
ramalama is now working with their latest rocm image
sweeeet
Strange behavior when I play since the Bazzite update 1-2 days ago. At a random time my game (Path of Exile 2 and Last Epoche) starts to lag and the graph in LACT looks like this.

When I quit the game and reenter it works normal again until the point the lag starts again. Timeframe sometimes after a few seconds and sometimes I can play an hour.
Restarted game and now it looks normal again.

If I just experienced what feels like a driver crash (game froze and then rest of the system slowly became unresponsive), how can I check the logs to confirm?
This was actually also in path of exile 2 funnily enough
You should be able to see the logs of the last boot using this command.
-r reverses the logs order, so the last reported logs will be at the top.
This also happens to me. I had to hard reboot my system because nothing responded anymore.
KDE is broken on 9070 XT if you enable "prefer color accuracy" in display settings. if you apply the settings from KDE to SDDM, then SDDM also breaks: https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1087140957096517672/1362775718349766727
Did this happen during any specific activity?
Yeah, itโs been that way since launch. You have to Prefer Efficiency
is that a kde bug or a driver issue?
Iโm not entirely sure. Might be worth searching the term for previous comments. I will say that looking into what that setting does, it doesnโt make any practical difference to run on efficiency
Normal gaming. Nothing special. Running a few T maps.
I've noticed this as well. What does the option actually affect?
i don't know exactly, but i used to do video post-processing so i had it on
Right now, it's only used for deciding if KMS offloading is acceptable, and for deciding the bpc of the shadow buffer, but it might be extended more in the future
This setting
- reduces ICC profiles to matrix+shaper mode when set to prefer efficiency, which makes it not have any performance impact anymore when KMS offloading works
- adjusts bits per color of the shadow buffer (if it exists) to match the preference
This is a bit above my head tbh
On a different topic, I've noticed a 6.14.2 kernel in now in testing. Has anyone tried it out on 9070? is there any difference? I've read that it had something for compute side of things, but that shouldn't affect gaming directly
Also, the scaling issue is a driver bug according to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/4057
GitLab
Changing color accuracy to "Prefer accuracy" breaks Kwin on an RX 9...
Reporting here as per asked in KDE's bugzilla Brief summary of the problem:
oh wow ok
I wonder if that's fixable within Linux 6.14.x/mesa 25.x? or would they wait until 6.15/25.x with fixes for RDNA4
do you happen to be undervolting or overclocking? this happens to me as well when I am undervolting over a certain level, and only in certain games.
This time around I haven't, I just did a fresh install of bazzite yesterday I believe and this time around I elected not to install LACT or anything, just in case having it installed with overdrive enabled could possibly have any impact on things. I noticed that my boost clocks were getting pretty high on my xt like 3200-3300, but it was stable surprisingly enough.

My card has two bios so I was thinking of either switching to the silent one or installing lact and adding some sort of frequency offset, although at this point I don't even know what was the cause of the lockup
given there are several of us having this issue, I don't think it's a hardware issue, but more likely a driver issue that will likely/hopefully be resolved in the coming months
Yeah I kind of think it's not hardware either based on the reports I've seen, just hard to tell sometimes especially with a new release
I don't know if something like this is reason enough to install lact and add the offset when the spec boost clock is 3010mhz and it's getting up to 3200+

Testing is on .16 and mesa .4 since yesterday. I've not noticed any difference so far, but I've not done any gpu restricted things that have consistent fps. No crashes or freezes so far, but those were pretty rare the last weeks anyway.
Latest stable is also on 25.0.4
oh bazzite testing updated to gnome 48 and a buncha my extensions broke ๐ญ
tragedy
not rly a 9070 issue but I havent spoken in any other channel in this server outside of here so...
:DelGatinho:
I fixed them
Does anyone know if FSR4 works on Linux?
I've given it a try and I've had no luck. And at least according to HansKristian we are kinda stuck for now. I assume until AMD helps out.

Seems like a couple of people have gotten it running. Just not very well.

Really had to switch back to Windows. This lag bug is annoying.
Open-Source RADV Driver Begins Working To Improve AMD RDNA4 Ray-Tra...
While the Radeon RX 9070 series as the first of the AMD RDNA4 graphics cards do perform well on Linux, the one area the performance has been less enticing remains with Vulkan ray-tracing while using the Mesa RADV driver
Somebody know why the rt performance under Linux is so bad compared to windows? I don't understand it. Rt hasn't just been around since yesterday.
Iโve read a good article on the topic yesterday, let me find me
Measuring acceleration structures
Hardware accelerated raytracing, as supported by DirectX 12 and Vulkan, relies on an abstract data structure that stores scene geometry, known as โacceleration structureโ and often referred to as โBVHโ or โBLASโ. Unlike geometry representation for rasterization, rendering engines can not customize the data layout; unlike texture form...
Which is exactly the area that the effort described in the Phoronix article above is trying to optimize
Very interesting, thanks. But I think it doesn't explain why the big rt performance gap between windows and Linux exists.
We can consider Windows version to be similar to AMDVLK proprietary driver in these scenarios
They have insider hardware knowledge, which allows them to have better optimizations faster, which take time to be reverse engineered and implemented by the open source RADV driver on Linux
Nope, sad but true

Okay, I didnโt know the disparity was that bad
The new bvh8 branch does bring radv performance at least close to the AMDVLK, even in its first iteration

Nice. Better than nothing ๐
.
facinating. what card are you using? and what monitoring app is this? I've got a Gigabyte AORUS card with a huge cooler (and advertising 3.1ghz speeds), but noticed that without undervolting, it maxes out 2600mhz. you mentioned something about two BIOSes? wondering if the windows drivers are what allows it to go to 3.1ghz?
FYI, I found the BIOS switch on my device. flipped it, and rebooted, and now I'm seeing 3100mhz without LACT... I wasn't previously... strange.
You have a Silence and Performance Mode on the card if it has a switch.
This is the powercolor 9070 xt hellhound and I'm just monitoring it with the gnome built in tool. This is with the oc bios enabled, so maybe it's just something with that, but the manufacturer website specs the boost clock at 3010 so it's going quite a bit over that.
I feel like the memory speed is way off as well, so I may just have to end up installing LACT anyway

I also have the Powercolor
Hellhound 9070XT and have been experiencing weird clock speeds in games... I've had an issue where the game is running the GPU at max chat on the main menu, getting 250FPS, then when you load in game, it drops to 30FPS, power usage drops to like 50-80W, and clock speeds drop to 1400MHz. ๐ค
The game is X4: Foundations.
I don't know what tool you're using, but nvtop is great to monitor gpu things without needing to install anything

This is on the main menu ๐ which is a full 3D rendering of space, ships etc.

This is in game ๐ and the clock speeds, power usage are all over the place.
Looks like that has both a windows and linux version. Worth trying to see if it's on both.
try running nvtop and btop while it's doing that to see if there's an obvious bottleneck somewhere if it's on both.
Sorry for the slow reply - passed out due to it being 2AM!
Issue affects both Windows using Proton, and the native Linux version; I'll try what you suggested.
Thanks! ๐
My LACT showed some nonsense info at some point, it said my XT is boosting up to 3500mhz or something and pulling almost 600W of power, it's stopped doing that since some updates to something but it still occasionally reports my fan going almost 16000 rpm for a millisecond (that's only 40% of fan max rpm apparently ๐ ) so I've just decided that lact reporting can be unreliable
Any chance the game is enginelocked to 30fps?
Absolutely not. Windows 11 gives full performance up to my monitor refresh rate.
I'll try the other monitors if LACT is potentially giving dodgy(ish) readings.
This could very well be a game-specific bug. I have the exact same model - 9070XT Hellhound - and I've been running undervolted it in silent mode without ever seeing this bug. Though tbh I've been mostly just playing a few games normally after doing the initial testing
As a side note, I've been super impressed how quiet it is even at full utilization
It's nothing compared to my last GPU - a GTX 1080
That's my guess too. I'm chatting with one of the devs responsible for their Linux implementation, so hopefully it'll be something fixable!
I have a Sapphire Pure 9700 XT and have the same issue. Switched to Windows for now. Cannot play with these FPS Drops atm
anyone on testing channel been getting these weird artifacts around certain windows?
oh thats weird it captures different than it looks
:squint7:
genuinely no idea if this is gpu drivers or gnome 48 weirdness
at least it doesnt affect anything in any meaningful way use wise
ah so might just be a gnome thing
Grumble ok, finally got around to testing this with multiple cards/machines/O/S's/DP cables
Latest MESA driver still giving me issues with Samsung Odyssey G95SD in bazzite.
Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G95SD
Video cards: 9070 XT Power Color Reaper(linux) / 6700 XT (windows).
5210x1440 @ 240hz HDR does not show up in fastfetch, occasionally black screens/lost signal, can trigger with spectacle, opening and selecting, switching source resolves if signal doesnt come back.
Disabling HDR issue persists

5210x1440 @ 120hz HDR shows up in fastfetch) All same behaviors persist.
Disabling HDR issue persists

Cables, ruled out at this point (worked fine from Windows install)
KDE plasma seems to have issues consistently detecting the monitor IE monitor ID will switch ID code (may be unrelated but interesting)
Haven't tested 9070xt on windows install.
Conclusion:
Just be patient and wait for MESA drivers to keep improving.
Questions?
Is fastfetch indicating an issue, or just doesn't support that high refresh+resolution?
Can/Should I report the issue I'm experiencing, if so where?
Could it be anything other than MESA driver issues
I only get it on vesktop, but I have a 9070xt and am using gnome... so not sure either
Hrm i've got a g95 and am using a 9070xt, i'm using gnome, haven't had any issues at all with the 9070xt or my old gtx3000 card. I am running at 120hz without HDR though. I get scanlines if I try and run at 240hz or turn on HDR (this has happened ever since I bought the monitor and regardless of the OS, thanks samsung).
Yeah Im using vesktop. BTW have you had any screenshare issues with vesktop? For me it's literally unusable and people on the other end either get really bad artifacts or the stream doesn't load but if I stream thru discord on Firefox it works fine
I've tried other clients with no success either
The only one I haven't tried is just vanilla discord
I've been using vanilla discord, it seems to be fine for the most part. I tried vesktop due to having a strange audio issue the other week on the discord flatpak (downgrading it fixed it and then they resolved it in .91) and didn't really put it through it's paces due to the artifacting around the window. I have only streamed individual windows, and that seems fine. The one time I tried to stream the entire 5120x1440 desktop, people were noticing weird stuff, like the game looked paused on their side, also the resolution looked really bad (probably due to downscale to 720p and potentially ISP?) but never really figured it out or looked into it, changing to the window only streaming seemed to resolve it.
Hmm I'm using plasma, wonder if its worth it to try gnome and see if issue persists.
a few months ago I wasnt able to stream at all through discord flatpak app. Firefox Browser based discord had no issues though. Later streaming from the flatpak was fixed (pre 9070xt) I think i just tested window streaming though. I will try later today to do the entire screen.
Yeah I almost always just stream the whole screen
But even streaming full-screen 1440p game windows only still gave me issues
I'll mess around with vanilla discord
If it works I'll just have to find a way to put vencord on the vanilla client
Maybe, they donโt recommend rebasing between desktop environments though, could take a bit more effort to test
Hey I dont have nitro or anything but I was able to stream Last Epoch to a buddy and it worked via discord flatpak and he didnt notice any issues
New kind of crash unlocked ๐ฅ
Tried using the obs gstreamer vaapi plugin instead of ffmpeg
interesting, the only time i've had issues is really is when I lock the screen, sometimes i get some graphical glitches when the screen comes back on. I have suspend off, so must be just something with the turning screen off bit.
no this happens to me exclusively with obs
after its open for a while itll just hard crash the entire pc
one monitor turns off and the other would usually just be green
but now its doing this weird glitching lol
480hz monitor with VRR freezes entire system after a few seconds of VRR being active, cannot reproduce at 240hz and cannot reproduce with nvidia
we definitely got an undercooked card xd
is 6.14 less broken?
Testing has new GPU firmware in addition to the new kernel. Fingers crossed ๐ค
praying it's better
new GPU firmware... oooh, glad to hear this!
is GPU firmware generic or manufacturer specific?
AMD-provided GPU firmware blobs that are applicable for any partner model of the card. They are coming from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/ repo, which has been updated to the latest release version 0410 on Testing
thanks, appreciate the knowledge
Haven't been able to fully test it, but the Desktop Experience on KDE seems a bit better so far on the latest testing commit with the new GPU firmware/kernel
A lot of the odd stuttering and weird window glitches seem to be gone for me
I haven't had a single lockup in the games that have been doing so, on the new kernel firmware -- but it's early!
Still have a ton of flickering w/ VRR on on the latest github
i read some post saying 6.15-rc2 has patches that solve most of the issues, do you guys know if they were backported to 6.14?
how recent was this pushed to testing? I updated like 2 or 3 days ago

Release testing-42.20250417.1: Testing (F42.20250417, #eae2962) ยท ...
This is an automatically generated changelog for release testing-42.20250417.1.
From previous testing version testing-42.20250417 there have been the following changes. One package per new version ...
ah last week
then I probably have the firmware then
20250410 firmware is a bit newer than that build
20250311 is on stable rn I believe
Recently upped to testing-42.20250423.4 and had trouble with distrobox spitting out an error relating to /etc/hostname.
Anyone on .5 willing to check if its fixed?
Started the terminal on a few from boxbuddy just fine
hmm maybe updating didn't like that my default shell is Fish. Or the new image causes Fish to forget some config.
enable login shell in ptyxis maybe?
I've had the same thing in an arch container running aurora 42, it's not bazzite specific and definitely unrelated to the 9070/XT
Thanks, I'll give it a try when I reboot back into that image!
Enabling login shell def did not fix it. And yeah it's def not 9070 related, but I'll write down what I've found for anyone else that faces the same issue. My testing-42.20250423.4 did not have a /etc/hostname file at all. Which from my googleing is needed to let containers talk with the host system.
Went to my testing-42.20250418.2 /etc folder and sure enough /etc/hostname is there. As a test I cp'd the old hostname file to the current /etc dir and bobs your uncle distrobox no longer complains on testing-42.20250423.4.
I'll try upgrading to a newer image and see if this is just a one off, or if something with my system is preventing the /etc/hostnames file from being created.
Ok I think this is definitely something related to the Fish shell and my ignorance on what I'm doing. On testing-42.20250418.2 I installed the Fish shell, and set it to my default. When going through the documentation I saw you could change the hostname of the system, which on the testing release of bazzite is set to "fedora". Which I wanted to change back to "bazzite", like how the stable release is set. I didn't immediately see a problem, Fish seemed to set the hostname to "bazzite" no problem, and likely updated the /etc/hostname file since I didn't experience any issues with distrobox in between changing the hostname and upgrading.
When I went to upgrade to testing-42.20250423.4 something about how I changed the hostname didn't work right with the new image. Causing the /etc/hostname file to not be created.
Using hostnamectl on the upgraded image to see the hostnames, the static and transient hostnames differed.
hostnamectl provides a tool to change the hostname, so I gave that a shot.
Now the transient hostname is gone, and it created the /etc/hostname file for me. But this file is readable. So likely this isn't a fix. And will likely not be persistent.
TLDR: If you are looking for 9070 stuff don't bother reading this. I simply wrote down a problem I experienced that I initially thought could be 9070 or testing release related.
New stable release time!
New firmware and kernel, well have to see what difference it makes
My edge case display instability/issues seem to persist on new stable. Usable but annoying. Fastfetch doesn't detect my main monitor and the monitor occasionally blips to black screen. Spectacle screen capture reliabily makes screen blip
Rebased back to stable for the update, a lot of issues with VRR enabled in KDE with parts of the screen turning white/freezing (usually around a third of the screen) for a few milliseconds. Anyone else seeing this?
Switching from automatic instead of always on Adaptive Sync seems to fix it mostly though
Is it the issue related to the Color accuracy - Prefer Efficiency setting?
Turning on Advative sync to always makes my issue occur a lot more
Also I notice flickering in the screen more in general
Switching from away from Prefer Efficiency to Prefer Color accuracy still doesnt seem to work at all for me
How is it then? Working well for 9070s?
Useable, but I'm looking forward to updated drivers I would say
Seems to vary a bit. The only issue I'm having is graphical issues when I bring my system out of sleep
It's been pretty good for me
Aside from random crashes with obs and screenshare issues with vesktop
Will say cyberpunk performance feels a bit underwhelming but that may very well be my aging 5600x
I've had this issue ever since i've had my 9070xt
and it isn't necessarily just sleep, even coming out of screen lock
I've never had it successfully come out of sleep in game mode...
but games overall work, and performing well!
yeah i'm not using game mode, and using gnome, but if i lock the screen and go away for a bit, even without it going to suspend, it happens
Sadly the updates didn't fix the problem i face while playing ๐ฆ
Back to full time Windows again.
For me it worked a couple of days ๐
I have had display issues on kernel 6.14 on all distros with the 9070xt. One of the devs at CachyOS said it is a kernel bug and needs to be reported on AMD. I have to keep my VRR settings to "Always on" in KDE and when I tried Gnome it was practically unusable because I would get temporary black screens often but intermittent. If I put my pc to sleep and wake it up it bugs out and my display shows "mode not supported change resolution" which is impossible since I cannot see what I am typing in a terminal, but the pc itself is working. I can usually reboot by blindly typing systemctl reboot after opening a terminal with shortcuts.
black screens while gaming or black screens entire time it was on? I haven't gamed but spent 4 hours in roll 20 last night with no issues on 6.14
not while gaming just using the pc
hrm, interesting
i'm using gnome and haven't had that happen yet
when on Gnome for me- display is unstable gaming and otherwise. Tried with exp VRR on and off doesn't change anything and can't put pc to sleep and wake it up without display bugging out and sometimes freezing. On KDE- stable if I set VRR to "Always" but can't put pc to sleep without issues with display and sometimes freezing. So for now I live with it and just completely shutdown if not using my pc and just using KDE.
9070xt Sapphire Pulse, Samsung OLED G9 for monitor
and again this is on any distro 6.14 kernel. About to try 6.15-rc3 to see if that is any better.
Yeah, that's interesting. I'm using the 49" mini-led G9 w/ bazzite 42 kernel 6.14 that released yesterday on stable. XFX 9070xt mercury. Pretty much the only issue I've had is with display going to sleep and coming back (not suspend, but screen lock). Everything has been fine, but i'm also not using HDR either.
Let me know how it goes.
I don't think HDR is part of the issue but I can check when I go back to 6.14 (if 6.15-rc is not good for some reason.)
Yea mine persist with HDR on or off
I'm like 99% sure its a VRR issue of some sort on the kernel level with AMD. Which is what GE from Nobara apparently has also experienced. ptr1337 from CachyOS is the one that told me its kernel issue and AMD has to fix it.
Hrm, yeah, i have VRR off as well. Just running at 120hz because my model G9 gets scanlines with all the 'features' turned on.
Any idea/website link to how a linux user can report issues to AMD? I see something on the site for a bug reporting tool but its windows only.
Just an FYI but when I get the mode not supported/or no signal screen, unplugging and/or switching the KVM input brings back the screen. I have a second monitor too so I can still check things.
Good to know! Thatโs helpful for when that happens! Iโll have to get back to you. Have my pc in sleep and will be afk a bit.
@Mr. Sparkles if you run "fastfetch" does the samsung G9 show up? Mine wont at 240hz but it will at 120hz kinda odd.
Yes
At 240
Hmm shoot, maybe I should try reseating the card or something
Also if I switch to 120 in settings I have zero issues. All of this is only at 240hz.
ah have you checked your cables for actual VESA certification, cause thats a world of pain

I dont get it lol
When I use spectacle "Meta-shift-s", and select part of the screen to capture, that pretty reliablely causes the screen to flicker/go black.
Potential work around for this issue mentioned here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/4057
"Also, setting KWIN_DRM_NO_AMS=1 in kwin's environment (I used ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/kwin_vars.sh) makes this work. It is the workaround I have been using so far."
GitLab
Changing color accuracy to "Prefer accuracy" breaks Kwin on an RX 9...
Reporting here as per asked in KDE's bugzilla Brief summary of the problem:
Also as an FYI cause I didnt know this stuff and maybe newbs wont either. But source MESA issues: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/, and AMD issues: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues and you can post an issue if you make an account. Best place I've found.
Hmm fun I definitely see errors in dmesg and and jounralctl, no idea what they mean, more reading but prob the answer is wait for driver updates

so no support in stable yet?
Works with issues is the best description. I would describe a few of us as edge cases though, 3 of us have the same super ultrawide samsung monitor and are experiencing similar issues.
Screen like goes black/loses signal for me randomly. Virtually goes away when im playing a game. Desktop it happens occasionally. Changing input back and forth brings display back.
ok fine with that just wondering if i need to go a different branch
haven't checked for VESA cert. I would think cables that came with the monitor would be but I can see Samsung being cheap and not having them certified
can confirm is still an issue on 6.15-rc3 kernel. But pulling the cable in and out helps
Its a nightmare. And cable manufacterers will flat out lie about certification, so thats fun. https://www.displayport.org/product-category/cables-adaptors/ Their search sucks, and then like half the cables listed arent actually for sale anywhere. Also fun, specific lengths are certified. I cant find anything thats 10ft thats certified.
I am fairly confident this should be good (but not longer): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQ7KY639?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
system update is painfully slow where I live
Cool a real fix would be better of course, but it beats rebooting.
Looks like my current cable is VESA certified according to that website you gave me.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CCNGVT26 they have a 10 and 15 foot size
IVANKY 16K Displayport Cable 10ft, DP Cable 2.1 [16K@60Hz, 8K@120Hz...
displayport 2.1 cable 10ft
Yea but technically the VESA certification only lists 1M and 2M lengths
Shenzhen Velocity Technology Innovations Co., Ltd. - iVANKY โ DP to DP 1M, DP2.1, 16K
Shenzhen Velocity Technology Innovations Co., Ltd. - iVANKY โ DP to DP 2M, DP2.1, 16K
Oh! got it, sorry. That was what you were just sayin' that no one seems to have one at the length you are looking for. need more coffee hahah
Also notice in the pictures for 3.3 ft and 6.6 ft the pictures have "VESA" certified and the 10ft one doesnt
its so scummy
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me.
Also I have no idea why this would be but this cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BCQ6FQ33?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
which is 16k vs D80, only allows me to run the monitor at 120hz, 240hz option not present.
16k should be plenty of data for DSC and 5120x1400 resolution at 240hz... but it didnt work :/
More scummy cable vendors lying about thier products I suppose
For what its worth I bought a 6ft and a 10ft and tested both and got the same results of the original cables I linked: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQ7KY639?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
I also ran both directly to monitor and through my KVM same results. Behavoir nonexistant on windows install on a 6600xt all with the same cables/kvm/monitor.
But yea ive had a couple bad experinces with cables lol
Weird- so it works fine on windows but not linux?
Do other cables have the same issue through your KVM?
I haven't seen the KVM cause any issues. But it doesn't fix any either.
And yes I think I bought like 3 different 10ft cables 3 or 4 years agom
Sorry same limitation on the 16k 10ft version of the cable on windows.
The 80d cable runs fine through KVM at 240hz and 5120x1400 in windows.
Not working for me in desktop mode, full screen graphical artifacts
Installed a 9070xt Thursday, seems to be working well
The only artifact I had was I had to change my monitor to โprefer colour efficiencyโ instead of accuracy as per this thread
On stable
that probably explains why Iโm fine at 120hz then
Yeah. I suppose I could just set it to 120. Not like thatโs unreasonable. Especially since I donโt play any FPS games and donโt need to be at 240 ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Yeah, but I get that it sucks not getting to use the features you paid for as well.
Exactly
It frustrates me that I canโt run 240 without scanlines
I canโt even run 144 without scanlines
Just something with the panel or display firmware
Thatโs why I waited to fully switch to Linux for so long. I like the hdr on my monitor since itโs OLED. But since theyโve had it on Linux Iโve been a happy non-windows user ๐
Windows has its own problems and itโs just a pick your poison thing at this point.
yeah, pretty much, that's the other thing, my G9 supports HDR but I don't really like it
would be different with the OLED, should have just waited a bit longer to buy
is VRR crashing happening for others? happened on 6.13, still does
Happened for me from 6.13-9-Bazzite and up (the previous B43 just before this current B42 with 6.14)
13.7 seemed fine
does your
journalctl
say something like this?
Let me check
I had that until 15/4 and nothing after I switched to
Version: testing-42.20250417.2 (2025-04-17T20:50:53Z)
Not seeing anything matching the bug you have listed there. Didnโt see any bugs to be honest. I just freshly reinstalled this version though and Iโve been keeping it at 120hz where I donโt have any issues. I bounced from Bazzite to CachyOS and back again over the past 24 hours just trying to see if any other kernels after 6.13 were better. Kernel manager in CachyOS lets you use 6.14 through 6.15-rc3 and all of them give me issues except 6.13-7 and older.
This is what I get launching Indiana Jones on the 9070xt

Doesn't your overlay say you're using gamescope?
yes, does the same thing in desktop mode though
what kernel version?
that was the first one on 16.14.3 I think. Not 100% sure. I'm on
testing-42.20250423.5
now.can anyone else trigger this with VRR on high-fps openGL games?
i myself can reproduce with
1. enable VRR in KDE (set it to "always")
2. download and open osu! https://osu.ppy.sh (appimage, just double-click. it also happens with the build from Flathub) - it'll default to opengl, keep it that way. i can reproduce the same issue with FurMark but not consistently - a real game is less involved and is a more realistic scenario
3. open settings, set the FPS limiter to VSync, fullscreen mode, and try playing - it should be fine
4. open settings, set the FPS limiter to unlimited, stay in fullscreen mode, and try playing - your system might hang within a few seconds of gameplay
any improvements in last 2-3 weeks?
I went back to Windows for now. I couldnโt get Indiana Jones to be playable and in other games was seeing ~20 avg fps loss on Bazzite.
Managed to run Indiana Jones both in Gamemode and Desktop with AMDVLK: https://github.com/GPUOpen-Drivers/AMDVLK/releases/tag/v-2025.Q1.3
The setup is super simple, just unpack the drivers and set a varible. You can find more info on protondb.

Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
Exactly what I came to find out about. 9070xt desktop, if it goes to sleeo it comes back out of it dragging like its a pentium 4 and then hangs
unfortunately hdr is off on mine
It's been working great for me, I bee using it all weekend, HDR on gives me zero issues except with BlackMyth Wukong, the game looks fantastic but it does crash after a few minutes. It's the only game I have experience issues with. and I have tried 15+ Elden Ring, Elite Dangerous: Odessey, Cyberpunk , Hawarts Legacy, The Finals ( it did crash one time but while I was closing the game), Clair Obscur, Baldur's Gate 3 etc.
I have been keeping the refresh rate at 120Hz and everything works fine for me with HDR on and VRR set to automatic. All the issues I have been having only happen to me when I set my refresh rate to 240Hz. When I use 240Hz I have to set VRR to "Always" and I cannot wake my pc from sleep without display issues. Otherwise, at 240Hz w/VRR set to always and HDR on, it's stable. Just have to shutdown my pc instead of putting it to sleep.
Ive been keeping things at 120hz either 4k or 1440. When I wake mine its sluggish and irrecoverably locks up. No ssh, no ctrl alt f# etc. button reset or power off is the only way out ๐คทโโ๏ธ
So simple, huh? Might give it a shot for some RT heavy games until the Mesa optimizations make it to stable
For me I got black screens for all games I tested (Hogwarts, Cyberpunk and RE4)
didn't follow the whole topic cause there is almost 1400 messages but for me i've tried installing cyberpunk and run a test in ultra, after updating everything and out of the box i have arround 80 fps in ultra on the performance test, but on windows (optimized with atlas) i'm around 190 fps with the same settings
both of the tests were made with no other app open
so sorry if i ask this and someone already anwser it, but is bazzite really compatible with my gpu for now ?
also i have seen one time some visual glitch on the screen (happen only once but haven't use the os a lot)
also downloading was wayyyy slower on bazzite than on windows, like it was 2 gbps on windows and cyberpunk took 10-15mn were on bazzite i took arrount 45-50mn
like i really want use linux and saw that it should run better than windows but for now it just doesn't
Still early days of support for the 9000 series. It will likely get better over time, but it might depend on the games you play. I haven't had any issues with mine. I'm guessing you had RT on in Cyberpunk, I don't think the RT performance is there yet in Linux
honestly i didn't even see if i was RT on i just put ultra in the setting so probably yes
and thanks for letting me now
didn't know rt wasn't really supported yet
i will still keep my dual boot and see bazzite evolution in the future
for now i think i will stick to windows
It seems to vary case-by-case, my framerate tanked when I enabled RT in MH Wilds, but someone else had RT on and it was fine for them. Probably just early driver weirdness
you have the same gpu ?
Both 9070 XT, yeah
I actually haven't tried it again with the latest Mesa yet, maybe I should
just to be sure cause i don't know really well bazzite (like i just installed it)
for the update we just need to run the app for that ?
or there is other things
Yeah, make sure to run "System Update"
I don't think the latest build is in the iso yet
RT performance optimizations are still WIP on Linux. Itโs not there even on the latest bleeding edge versions of libraries compared to Windows. However, the difference you report is way too large to be explained by that. Are you absolutely sure you use the same settings, resolution and upscalers on both platforms?
ok thanks
i'll try this when i get home
It will also update automatically by default. There's a chance it already downloaded the update if it's been booted for a while, you may just need to reboot
probably not but will see
yea there is really a big difference i will verify that one more time when i can and i will tell you
like i just use the ultra preset in cyberpunk but i will verify every settings
and first verify the updates
https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1347285101872152688/1363110895546400799
this is the rough estimate of the difference you should be seeing in RT. Not amazing by any means, but not the multiple times difference
will send the both screen of performance

it look's like it's taking the wrong gpu
also i have some biiiigggg issue with my ethernet like it freeze a lot, i don't have the problem with wifi but wifi is really slow
also the whole system seems really slow compared to what i will expect or windows
104 vs 64 fps in RT is in the ballpark for the current state of the open source driver atm
The long story short: 9070xt introduced the new FP8 format for its raytracing implementation and FSR4, but it's not yet supported by the current stable open source stack. So it's currently falling back on existing RDNA3-compatible implementation. It is currently being worked on, but it's not there yet
Could you go in a bit more detail about the system being slow? It's difficult to troubleshoot without any more detail
hmmmmm ok
don't know how to explain it, like steam is really slow, brave is slow to display website too
and like when i made a speedtest i see that when i'm in ethernet every 5 seconds it freeze for 2 seconds
if it's not only games, can you try asking in #๐ฎbazzite ?
You'll need to accept #โ
code-of-conduct first by
ok thanks
Has anyone had any luck using Davinci Resolve with the 9070 XT? It still does not play back video for me since switching
I havent tried but ive heard its not that great on amd in general on linux so I wouldnt be surprised if its extra broken on 9070
ive been using shotcut
For those 9070(xt) owners interested, a Mesa dev confirmed in a pull that a fix for the graphical issues (artifacts, glitching, crashing) when waking up the PC from suspension will be released in Mesa 24.0.5, which is expected to be released tomorrow.
Great news!
Inchresting
I was able to get it to work by removing my davinci distrobox and re-installing
Yeah ๐ฅณ
Great to hear because I've found a lot of games perform so much better on bazite than Windows the Oblivion remaster for example most of the stuttering and juttering that everybody is showing online not a lick of that in bazzite
Same with Expedition 33. Curiously, many UE4/5 tittles run great on Bazzite while they are a stuttery mess on Windows
I swear part of it is DXVK. I had games that stuttered on Windows that were fixed entirely by just using DXVK
Hmm wonder if it would be worth trying to get DXVK working under windows with this, tried briefly on lunch but it didnt pickup like is used to.
I'm fine with just playin in bazzite tho did about 4 hours last night without a stutter
it's understandable to see UE shader comp stutter being cleared up by DXVK and shader cache sharing system
I'm a bit more skeptical to hear the claims that Oblivion's world grid loading stutters would be solved on Linux
since it's fundamental engine behaviour to load data from RAM into VRAM once you cross a grid threshold in the open world
Also, the new Mesa is out. Now we wait for the Bazzite update
I am very curious about stuff even though I don't fully understand it. It has happened a lot to me in Linux, btw.
However, I can't tell you that, for whatever reason, RE4 had some traversal stutters that were spotted in DF's PC port video. Same with Guardians of the Galaxy and Nier Automata. I can tell you that, in those games on Linux, those stutters either don't happen at all or are incredibly reduced to the point I couldn't reproduce them in the several spots I tested
So not only shader compilation stutter is not a thing on Linux, but I dare to say something is done that makes some games to reduce those kinds of stutter
Btw, as shared by Shantara, the newest Mesa is out now and as I shared with you, this should fix the suspension issue on RDNA 4.
Hopefully this gets into the next Bazzite build really soon as I want to go back full time to Linux already

I am hoping any of the next updates fixes the problem with the fps drops after a while playing. Cannot play PoE2 on Bazzite since 2-3 weeks ๐ฆ
Fully back on Windows atm because of this.
why you cant play poe2?
are you sure that game is simply caching shaders?
i played this way for 10 more minutes. never went back to normal after it started once
you can play even weeks. doesnt matter
if you go into new map which you havent been, shaders will be cached only when you go there
I zoned in out to multiple maps, new and old. No changes. And It also happens in Last Epoche too.
are you sure you not overheating system?
100% exakt same problem in PoE2 and Last Epoche.
It worked until the update 2-3 weeks ago.
cause poe2 does put very heavy load on system
100%. I am playing on Windows for 10 straight hours.
and it worked fine on Bazzite too. Problem started 2-3 weeks ago.
that doesnt mean there cant be overheating issues
cause of fan curves etc
No. Temps are fully in range of what it is normal.
and I played 150-200 hours of PoE2 already without problems on Bazzite.

well currently i am not on bazzite but this is ewhat lact shows for me.
for some reason power output is unstable. besides that seems nothing wrong.
also while playing cs2 when I am ACTUALLY playing i have like 20-30% lower clock speed compared when i am dead and spectating
like spectating = 3.1ghz, while playing ~2.4ghz
I will sends screens when I boot into Bazzite.

It's already in the test branch
I will try it today. For me and my htpc it's an essential feature for the "steam deck (or console) like experience" besides the possibility to wake up with a controller
and now it started again. in the middle of a map.

Normally I play with 100-120FPS now it does not go over 60FPS. Out of nowhere after ~40 minutes of playing PoE2.
Twitch stream on second screen no problem.

Restarted PoE2 and it is back to normal.
Sounds great. I would also be interested to read a technical article about how they manage to achieve this
My skepticism is mostly based on seeing so many online discussions where people swear they can see absolutely no stutter on their screen, even in situations where there is a ton of it. Some folks are just completely unable to perceive it, and thatโs fine
and I can add the problem occures everytime after the same timeframe as it looks like. Played again and again after ~43 min +- 2 Min the problem occures again
Looks good with the newest Mesa
wth
so just ran ujust update and rebooted
and its booting so slow I can see it draw the lines for each letter in the boot log on the screen
Hey, all! Has anyone experienced flickering like this? Elden Ring and Hades 2 examples shown. I have a Gigabyte 9070 (non-XT). Restarting the game usually fixes it.
Its going to take 20 mins to boot wth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfFUH_iSrN8
it finally sped up and got me to login/desktop
Some people are apparently unable to perceive differences in frame rates and by extension, frame rate drops in general. You have to take online comments about performance with a grain of salt
In my case maybe I should have been a bit more specific. Under windows I do see constant what I would refer to as stutter (based on comments shader caching but extremely brief) and judder (anything that looks or feels like a 100ms or higher frame time by my own definition). While playing on bazzite the experience is being smooth enough I dont note the stutter for shader gen/ grid loading even my kid has commented while watching me play. It's entirely likley the experience is just so much better than under windows that I'm just not taking note of it if its only happening occasionally
Huh I can check my performance in poe2 today. I was going to say I had not noticed anything in poe2 but i stopped to play Last Epoch last week and vrising this week
Hmm looks like testing does have an updated MESA but 25.0.5-1
will update and try out a few things
hmm poe2 started processing vulcan shaders and apparently using the CPU to do so vs the vid card I just skipped it
during my slow boot I mention above...
What versikn
?
of
Bazzite
played for 5 minutes didnt see any crazy fps drops or a stutter or anything stick around 160 fps drops a bit if i fill the screen with lightning but no lower than 140
will try to play later for longer
42
Exact version
Date
Problem starts for me after 40-50 minutes. until then no problem
That get you specifically what you wanted @antheas
And to pull that I had to power the machine back up and it booted normally this time. So maybe the slow boot after the ujust update was the card being left in a bad state by the restart and thats why amdgpu couldnt access the card properly.
FWIW Shantara just fired up Oblivion remastered. Walked out the north gate of Bruma and headed straight north, we saw one clear stutter 3/4 of the way to the edge of the map and a second about 500ms before the game tossed the warning that I couldnt go that way other than that 1440 80fps no other issues. So yep the map loads are there but easily ignored but under windows the issues I see more often on the same machine are more like judder
Cool, thanks for the update
My issue gets different when I turn off VSYNC, but doesn't go away until I restart the game.
So far with testing-42.20250430.1 my issues have improved with 9070xt and samsung g9 monitor, not totally resolved but better. In addition I am able to set color accuracy to prefer color accuracy and it works.
There's a new stable build now too
well the new mesa, I was able to come back out of sleep and launch a game, but it never completed launched got an out of video memory error
TIL you can have a Furmark GL and VK test running at the same time
How did you get the new mesa? Just run the Bazzite update?
"sudo ujust update" in terminal and then reboot when it finishes/prompts you.
ty
you don't need to type sudo for ujust fyi
on mesa 25.0.5 and still can't run 240Hz without some intermittent black screens, Can wake up pc from sleep without issues though.
Erin by chance HDMI, 4k, 240hz?
As far as I know, HDMI can't do that.
If HDMI, have you ever tried Displayport?
I don't believe AMD cards in Linux supports the version of HDMI that can run that.
"AMD's open-source drivers have been unable to fully implement HDMI 2.1 due to the lack of open-source specifications from the HDMI Forum. "
Yea I'm still seeing the same behavior. It seemed to happen less frequently with 25.0.5. I will try to open a specific help thread for that issue.
i know i should have pinned the previous answer. i think there are similar problems with windows if something is not made to spec (including the cable)
Artefacting after waking up from sleep has been fixed for me after updating to 25.0.5. One weird bug I notice is that in Metaphor Refantazio the confirmation dialog shown when exiting the game is no longer shown on screen. You still have to click the button to confirm it, but you don't get a visible prompt anymore ๐ค
I'm still stuck on an old 1080p60 display. I've been eyeing one of those shiny new 4k240 OLEDs, but they've been out of stock for months in my local stores, and I'm iffy about ordering them from abroad in case I might need to make a return due to a stuck pixel or something like that. Hopefully they'll become available soon
Ever consider miniled instead? I've got a TV(that I game on) and a laptop thats got a (3200x2000) mini led, 1200nit. Its beautiful and blinding lol
Oh I did, I spent like a year pouring over everything thatโs on the market. But it seems like every model has some kind of deficiencies that are hard to overlook.
The new AOC models look interesting, but they have been confirmed not to be coming to Europe because they apparently have such high power consumption, they couldnโt pass the certification
yiikes LOL
At the end I decided to give up and just get an OLED
I wish I could enjoy really bright screens. I just get eye strain when it's too bright for me
me too, I keep both of these cranked down. its pretty dark in the room right now and the laptop is at 5% LOL
I almost never play fully in the dark, I usually have a lamp on my desk turned on and that helps
yep 99% of my gaming is on the TV and the kitche light is always on so there is enough light in here to read say printed type about 12pt and above
I just checked, and according to rtings like my 55"tv is 52 watt typ 210w max so yeah its a bit on the power hungry side
but my 9070xt loves it ๐
Thanks for taking initiative on that. I am not sure if this specific bug has been reported to Mesa git or AMD. I am a beginner at linux so I don't know how to get the specific debug logs to be able to show them what is happening, plus its very irregular in occurrence. (Albeit frequent enough for me to stay at 120Hz where I am stable.)
Just looked into it and there is a bug report for the 7900 xtx that matches my specific problem at 240Hz here- https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/3424
GitLab
(RX 7900XTX) G9 95SC Monitor loses signal intermittedly (#3424) ยท ...
Brief summary of the problem: As the title states, my G9 95SC monitor loses signal intermittently during use. This is caused...
Yea I did a bunch of trial and error with my windows PC and A 6600xt, not seeing the same performance issues with same cable-> monitor. I do see errors as well I think related to display port and amd GPU.
Which makes sense because devs were telling me it is an amd bug on kernel level and across all distros.
Hmm I'll look into the vram voltage solution.
Yea I want to open an issue but I'm ok not sure if I do it for Mesa Drivers GitHub or AMD GitHub.
Not sure if you read the thread on the issue but one of the devs replied that it likely is a memory clock low voltage issue. Some users have replied that using Lact to disable low VRAM power states keeps 240 HZ VRR stable. I am trying that out now with lact and so far I have not had an issue. If you are using KDE, what I experienced was changing the VRR setting in display configuration to Always on keeps 240Hz stable but on GNOME (which is what I prefer to use because or paperWM extension) I didn't have a solution. Hoping this resolves my issue on GNOME so I don't need to use KDE.
Nice I'll give it a shot soon thanks!
So far so good on my end using Lact to disable power state at 192. Had a couple of very brief black screens while playing a game but no where near the amount I was getting before. I am testing disabling 912 MHz to see if that gives me 100% consistent stability.
9070 xt, firefox, browsing this website and clicking/scrolling inside the map: https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/arcades.php
is anyone else able to reproduce?
Cannot immediately reproduce it, sorry
even if you search for any city there and start clicking on the green dots inside the map?
Nope, I tried clicking on different elements, zooming it or out, searching. No luck so far. How long did it take to crash on your machine?
FF 138.0.1
within a few seconds, it doesn't actually crash, the display freezes for 10~ seconds
Definitely nothing like that on my end
Are you on the latest stable with Mesa 25.0.5?
yes
No luck then.
ring gfx_0.0.0
looked like it was similar to one of the issues mentioned 25.0.5 changelog, so I hoped it could be the same issuethanks anyway!
I wish I could help more
Playing with this now. Adapative sync to always did not resolve. I do have a reliable way of causing the black screen. IF you use spectacle (META shit S) to take a screenshot then when you click the "rectangular region" button my screen goes black for a second or so (previously it would lose signal and require reseating the DP cable) then after selecting an area or hitting esc, it would blink black again. I disabled all the way up to 2516MHz and this still occurred.
I am going to test out playing games with some of the lower stats disabled and see how it does will report back.
I will also note, that when I run fastfetch at 240hz refresh rate, it doesnt find the monitor (if I drop down to 120hz it does) messing with the vram voltages didnt resolve.
If were both still having issues I might open a new bazzite-help support thread, I think there are a few of this with this issue for this specific model of monitor.
I still can't set my monitors to color accuracy on the latest stable. I wonder if it has to do with having multiple
I will double check but it was fine for me
oop wait maybe im wrong
huh so in adaptive sync always screen is kind of flickering occasionally pretty annoying
however i think going to a black screen is gone
I only notice it on the desktop however in game its ok
I swear this worked for me the other day but I might have been in latest testing branch, maybe try that?... doesnt look like anything different in the major packages between the two though...
I ended up still having issues at 240 Hz even after trying to disable the power state on VRAM in Lact. It's not quite as bad as before but since I don't actually need to be at 240 at all (these monitors have such an incredible response time at .03 ms) then I will just stick with 120 Hz till someone smarter than me figures it out.
Switching to always on adaptive sync resolved the black screen issues
i just have random light changes sometimes on the desktop
but thats preferable to losing the whole screen for a few seconds
Yeah I might go back to KDE just because of that. I just really, really like paperWM and there is nothing like it for tiling windows on KDE.
At one point of time I was getting that OLED flicker with HDR enabled and 240 HZ to always in KDE but last time I was on KDE checking the new drivers that wasn't a problem
Out of curiosity do you run browser/application/windows in dark mode?
I'll try it again but disabling HDR didn't resolve.
I am going to make a help thread for the specific monitor today.
@Mr. Sparkles can you run "fastfetch" command and let me know if it displays the Samsung monitor at 240hz?"
Running fastfetch correctly displays my resolution, refresh rate and screen size for me

I switched my DE to KDE and I am running all windows and applications in dark mode with HDR. My display is stable when I set my refresh rate to 240 Hz with VRR to Always and it no longer bugs out on me when I wake my pc from sleep. I am completely updated on system updates and running 6.14-4 Bazzite kernel w/mesa 25.0.5. Have you run a system update in the past 24 hours? Which kernel are you on?
Nope, I am back on stable so: Linux 6.14.4-103.bazzite.fc42.x86_64
I will try out testing
I just came back from sleep and was getting black screens again

On latest testing branch, no black screens yet but brightness flickering still present. And fastfetch still doesnt pick up the monitor at 240hz

Brightness flickering can be inherent to the panel. Especially OLEDs

Fastfetch still not finding the monitor at 240hz but fine at 120, so weird
If I set VRR/Adaptive Sync to automatic vs Always, then the flickering is not present (but the monitor will randomly lose signal).
Maybe something weird there then. VRR flicker when the framerate drops too low is a thing on some monitors, but if it's happening to you on desktop it might be something different
Flicker doesnt seem to show when running a game full screen
I'll have to see if my 360Hz monitor shows properly in fastfetch tomorrow
Mr. Sparkles has the same monitor and videocard and seemingly fewer issues after changing settings according to similar issues from other AMD cards reported with this monitor. Some of the troubleshooting steps definitly improved things.
also just to note, Color accuracy set to "prefer accuracy" still doesnt work
Looks like I spoke too soon- had issues waking from sleep but unplugging the dp cable and plugging it back in resolves it. Otherwise it is stable on 240 Hz/Always on VRR. Haven't tried messing with VRAM power states in Lact yet on KDE.
Ok, I tested disabling all but the highest and still had issues. I don't think I'm seeing errors in logs now though.
LACT VRAM settings did help but not remove
Occasional flicker at high refresh rate with OLED panels is a known issue in the display industry. Some folks think that is why Asus didn't go OLED on the Ally X.
Adaptive sync always on has had the biggest improvement for black screens/signal loss. Just annoying with the flicker.
0 flicker with "automatic"
Didn't notice it on windows machine either. But I wasn't looking for it specifically.
Did you turn on VRR control in expert settings on your monitor? Try it on or off and see if that helps with the flickering

Hmm
I think so, but I'll check tomorrow, good thinking.
for me it's better when it is on in KDE but on GNOME it was the other way around for some reason.
hey all! just installed the 9070 XT and rebased to testing branch, PC boots but every game ends up in a black screen.
fun fact is when I press the Win key, it shows my taskbar AND the game, but when I go back to the game it goes back to the black screen. apart from rebasing, is there anything else that I can do to fix this? or just wait for an update?
That's definitely not normal behaviour. I suggest you start a help thread for that. Sounds like a weird compositing problem, but it's not something I've encountered. If you rebased frrom kde to gnome or vice versa, you can encounter all sorts of problems and need to reinstall.
Try setting adaptive sync from display settings to never , I had the same issue on my tv originally
Will try asap, thanks!

Nice! Glad that was helpful!
How is it when you run VRR set to automatic?
In fastfetch? Still shows 1440p @ 360Hz, just tried it
No, I mean is it stable, like you don't lose monitor signal ever? That's the issue I have been talking with IrkedQuirk about with the OLED g9/9070xt combo. We have been losing signal and getting a temporary black screen intermittently and it appears to be tied to 240Hz and VRR settings.
I can try leaving it on for while. If the VRR flicker doesn't drive me nuts that is
IrkedQuirk also has a separate issue where fastfetch isn't displaying their refresh rate correctly when it is set to 240Hz but that doesn't seem to be affecting me.
Does the Alienware have a setting in the picture settings for the monitor regarding VRR control? On the samsung g9 VRR control set to "on" in the montior's onboard settings fixes the flicker
You might want to play around in your OSD to see if there is a setting in there that will help with the OLED flicker.
I've had the monitor for like a year, haven't found anything in the OSD relating to VRR settings
I had to go pretty deep in my monitor settings to find it.
"gaming mode" didn't turn it on
I can only go so deep in the settings, there isn't anything obvious that relates to it
Desperately waiting for the day obs doesn't crash after being open for 8 minutes
Is there a way to run the obs rpm thru xwayland
Wait no that won't work cus the rpm for obs doesn't have browser source anyway
:squint7:
I havent noticed any issues with flatpak obs, I guess I havent really streamed very long with it though
Everything seems fine so far between last night and what I've played today. Haven't had any black screens or signal loss
Well at least you have that. I keep my monitor at 120 hz because I donโt have issues with display at all if I do. I donโt get screen tear like ever, so it doesnโt really matter to have it at 240 hz. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Maybe its a bug with ffmpeg vaapi or some kind of issue with running the flatpak on xwayland and using browser sources/floating windows
I really can't say, I just know that even without recording or streaming just leaving my obs open for a bit causes my entire pc to crash
Any updates to the AMD driver or RT?
You can always check the Github to see what the latest kernal/firmware/mesa/etc. is, for both testing and stable:
https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/releases/
I need to rebase to that?
The latest stable has the same Mesa version as the latest testing, so it's probably not going to make a difference right now
They are merged to mesa main branch, but would not reach stable until after 25.1 release
Does anyone know if recent changes to mesa have fixed the 9070 xt boosting past frequency specs? I've been back on windows 10 for the past month I'd say just making sure that it wasn't any fault in the card itself and I haven't had any crashes like I was getting on windows 11, but I'd like to get back on bazzite now if possible.
Just curious- when you say boosting past freq. specs are you talking about core clock, memory clock, or both? And are you talking like way out of range in a bad way?
Just asking cause I have not experienced that on mine outside of purposefully oc/uv the 9070xt.
and not in a bad way but a really great performance way
Yeah sorry I should have specified, this is the core clock frequency boosting past spec, it happens in windows as well with pretty demanding titles and I hadn't had any issues since rolling back my windows driver to 10 from 11, but when I was running bazzite I would launch a game sometimes and it would boost to like 3300-3400 mhz and it would lock my machine up for a little while, sometimes requiring a reboot.
There's no such thing
We had this conversation already
Modern cards will boost Way beyond the listed spec
If boosting is crashing your shit, you need to get your card replaced
No amount of driver interaction should change the clock that a card boosts to, this will not be fixed by an update. It is driven by firmware
There is a very good reason you are the only person experiencing this problem
Its probably an underspec power sup
Supply
Extremely possible
I hope not, it's at 850w modular power supply I picked up from microcenter the day I got the card. I've seen the issue bouncing around the amd reddit for awhile now, granted almost all of these people are on windows. I'll update my existing bazzite install a little later and if I still have an issues I'll start the rma process, thanks.
EPILEPSY WARNING
Dunno if this was brought up already, but when I go to Desktop Mode, the screen just keeps flashing green, as if it can't stabilize itself. This is when using the 9070 XT, but strangely enough, this doesn't seem to affect gaming mode.
Also worth mentioning that the screen works normally when connected to the motherboard.
And the TV I'm using is the SONY XR-65X94J.
Is that the amd hdmi issue? Game mode is probably limiting your refresh rate or gamma subsampling to stay within the 2.0 spec
Yeah, most likely. Turns out setting the color accuracy to "prefer efficiency" fixes this issue.
I'm with Kyle and antheas and everyone else. Your card has a stock rate and will boost when its vbios deems appropriate based on temps, load, power. But if it flakes out doing normal boost operation and you arent trying to purporsely overclock the card then you either have a defective card or bad power. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-9070-xt.c4229 stock ratings for reference 9070xt are here boosting to 2970. If your card is an OC model then see that manufacturers website for the max boost clock. If it goes past that or is unstable below that max boost clock return the card for a new one. If the new onte does the same then its 90% likley the PSU.
Or, cables
I've seen people with 1000w PSUs throw two PCI-E power lines from the same rail on a GPU and then deal with droop under load
Or worse, use a crazy PCI-E power adapter despite the PSU being modular and having an extra slot
I mean if its breaking 3ghz probably an OC version of the 9070xt too so 850 might be a good minimum starting point depending on what all else is in the system too
You never go wrong getting a bit over mins
Could use a separate cable for each pci-e 8-pin rather than connecing one cable with the jumper on a 2x 8-pin pci-e. I have seen that affect things before. Not this specific issue but other things.
I don't think that's a "could"... I thought you should use seperate cables for anything drawing over a certain amount of Watts.

Each PCI-E 8 pin cable can supply up to 150 W, and the PCI-E slot itself supplies 75 W. For the 9070XT needing 300 W you should use separate 8 pin cables.

Nice, My PSU had 3 PCIE power cables so I have 3 separate cables running to the card
Even better ๐
I don't disagree, I run separate cables as well. Just saying there are people out there that don't at their own peril.
TBH it's not even something that crossed my mind when building my PC originally. It's only when I saw the 300 W requirement for the 9070XT that I thought 'huh, that seems a bit high for one cable'; a quick search showed I was right to check.
I'm sure there's a tolerance of +X% W on the cables, but even still... best not to mess about. ๐
yeah best to not fafo on power related issues at best headaches and crashes, at worst you relase the magic smoke
i'm not sure my PSU technically has 3 rails? but it had like 5x PCIE connectors / cables and 2x CPU connectors / cables, so I figured doing one for each was better than trying to use adapters and shit, based off of the little bit of electrical knowledge I have
Yeah just avoid daisy chaining with modern cards. The more power they have access to the better even if they won't use it (they probably will though). The atx 3.1 PSU I picked up recently didn't even have the extra cable split offs for PCIE - just single ends
This was a fun read
None of this is going to be merged into radv without an official documentation, but itโs still a fun proof of concept
Do any games actually natively support it yet? I know on Windows you can force it with Optiscaler or with Adrenlin
Idk, but these changes were made to be used together with Optiscaler. People had some success with upgrading games to FSR4 on Linux with Optiscaler, but I personally havenโt tried it, as it required building custom library branches from source

Has anyone noticed small red, green and blue particles around objects when the rest of the screen is black in HDR?
Usually this happens in losing screen. And also asking because I'm guessing this is one of the quirks with the 9070 XT.
I tried to get FSR 4 to work using these instructions https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/2398#issuecomment-2845201173 and compiling mesa-fp8 in a fedora distrobox, but I did not succeed so far. Tried only with Control in Heroic Launcher though. It does not start anymore when setting the VK_DRIVER_FILES env var.

im doing the one at the bottom and havent had any issues ๐
I had dedicated cables but it looked kinda cluttered so I took one out and it's been fine
my psu only came with the cables that have double ends so it looks messy af
admittedly I do run mine on the quiet bios so maybe thats why issues havent propped up :thonking:
that and also that I dont even play modern games so I rarely use the card to its full potential

I'm going to try after I get a 4k display lol, no reason to bother with upscaling on my current ancient monitor
thanks, I had not. my fedora distrobox was already on 42, but I had not updated all packages yet. tried this and rebuilt mesa-fp8, but still no luck
I'm all my games at 4k with decent frame rates definitely something I want for later but once it has matured.
Hopefully AMD will release official Vulkan SDK support for FSR4. Would be great to have it in a non-hacky way
that would definitely speed things up
EPILEPSY WARNING
Anyone having weird issues with Samsung monitor's Game Mode ON on 21:9? Works flawlessly in 16:9.
To have 175hz I need to activate Gaming Mode.
VRR Control in monitor settings or Adaptive Scan set to automatic/always/never doesn't change anything.
This issue is both on testing and stable branch.
Try turning color accuracy to efficiency vs accuracy. If I switch my Samsung monitor to "color accuracy" it does that.
In the bazzite display settings
I've already done that but unfortunately the error persists on both settings
Bummer, you tried a different DP cable just in case?
so, mesa 25.1 is on bazzite:stable now
anyone seeing improvements?
That was quick
Not at all. Ray tracing performance is the same in cyberpunk and GTA V enhanced still crashes for me
Happens also on my Samsung OLED TV
There's also some flickering in steam game mode here and there after setting 4k@120 in display settings. Games are flawless
Flickering can be caused by VRR, on OLED especially (for what I've read around here).
So were you able to fix the glitching issue by setting 120hz?
I haven't had any major issues since the sleep bug was fixed in the previous release. I ran through a few games I had installed, and have not noticed any differences. At least there were no new regressions
The sleep bug still occurs for me when I have my monitor's refresh rate set to 240Hz. On 120Hz it is stable with zero issues. Issues at 240Hz still persist on 25.1 as well.
Using a Samsung G9 Oled.
spectacle video recording looks like this in the preview panel ๐ but the output looks fine when viewed externally

The first thing I did was disable VRR as it's not necessary for my use. Still happens. It's mainly the UI elements flickering as you move around but sometimes the whole screen flashes white for a millisecond
Hey everyone - would you think that a 5600x would bottleneck the 9070XT on 3440x1440? I was playing Warzone and The Precinct and didn't see that much of an improvement I expected from a 3070ti
this could be due to the pcie 4.0 or even the pcie 3.0 mainboard
(cpu does not support pcie 5.0)
i don't know how big the performance difference is between pcie 4.0 and 5.0. but 3.0 is already slow for the card.
I already checked the pcie where the GPU is installed and it's 4.0, but it says X8 instead of x16 in LACT ๐ค
Pretty much no perf difference between pci express 4 and 5 under most real world conditions
Set the value in the BIOS fix to PCIe4/16x and not auto. This could solve the problem.
I have this same feeling tbh, I didnt see the improvements I was expecting either
might end up getting a 5700x3d or just upgrading to a 7600 on am5
Took me a few hours to setup everything, but I've managed to get FSR4 working in Cyberpunk with PT!

This was mostly done for the fun of it, and I cannot say how usable or stable it's going to be lol
But it actually works!
Cool that it works. Hopefully that means it'll hit stable before too long
I think so yes. Only at 4k it would be more viable.
See what's around second hand for AM4 - lots of headroom from 5600 I think
Even on 3060ti a buddy went from 5600 to 5700x3d and saw improvement
I'm locked on mATX motherboards so I'm trying to stay on AM4 for as long as I can, might as well get the latest CPU and see if that works
I went with the AliExpress 7500f for my 9070 xt build and it's a definitive improvement. That's at 4k though.
So 5700x3d or 7600 should be solid for you.
A friend recommended 9600 but I think it's only worth it if you found a ridiculously good deal - worth hanging onto AM4 and upgrading later when AM5 prices come down in many respects
A friend of mine got the 5700x3d off AliExpress and bought it for 160โฌ, seems like a great price to be honest - I'm trying to understand if there's anything I can test before spending some other money tho
Ive already benefitted from am4 long enough in my case. Been on the platform since ryzen 2000 so I think Id better do the same and hop on am5 early cus it seems like its gonna last a while
A regular 7600 performs better than a 5700x3d and doesn't cost much more, the mobo and ram prices is what kills it but thats more of a long term investment the way I see it
Why not R7 7700? Just curious
just make sure to set the it to pcie4 in bios no performance loss going from 5 to 4
General question, how far along are we when it comes to drivers for the 9070xt? I've noticed my performance has been better lately but still seems a bit below what I'd expect out of the hardware
I also saw recently that they merged some rdna4 RT changes into mesa 25.2 so that's still a work in progress
is there still a big gap between windows performance on non RT and linux performance or has that gap been significantly closed?
I was armchair researching this the last couple days and the gaps really seem to be ray tracing and fsr4
I'm yet to find a game that I can't get (by my interpretation) maxed out visually at 4k and retain good FPS. Cyberpunk with ray tracing was the only time it felt crippled but turning off just ray traced lighting bumped performance to where I was happy
Idk how to describe it but I also noticed in a lot of games the lighting or the sky will look not pixelated but... Weird... Like the bloom is pixelated a bit. Dunno what that's about

Hi all! Has anyone with a 9070xt managed to play black myth wukong ?
I can't get cyberpunk to go past like 75 ish average fps on the benchmark tool at 1440p native with no RT
Meant to reply to this whoops
But I keep seeing people blowing well past 130 on 1440p ultra with no RT on windows
I might try it myself tomorrow since I got some free time but yeah maybe I really do just need that cpu upgrade at this point
We'll see
What cpu? I've got an AMD 5600x + 9070xt undervolt 300w limit and I'm getting around 100 fps 1440p native. 80ish watts on CPU at 80% so I'm probably more CPU limited in some of the denser areas.
also 5600x
Ive done everything I can to make sure its all configured as best as possible
XMP is enabled, above 4gb decoding and ReBAR are enaled, and I'm running the game with GE Proton 10
You running gfx settings at highest they will go?
I select the ultra preset but then I set FSR to Native AA
that's the only thing I change
and make sure RT is disabled
maybe its an issue with heroic games launcher?
I'm not running it on steam
and there was some time where HGS wasnt launching games on the 9070xt while it was working on steam
so maybe it just has an older version of mesa
I just redid with your settings and I'm seeing similar results now.
What was weird was my CPU was being used more when I had crowd dens set to medium
nvm I had I think a filter turned down previously.
Yeah I think its just the 5600x
My xfx quicksilver 9070 xt seems kinda loud but temps are really good
People with other cards what automatic settings are the default in LACT for your other model cards that run quiet? I'm thinking to make some adjustments
Alternatively what is the default fan curve of your card?
Trying to determine if xfx just set very aggressive fan curves by default or it's just the overall cooler design which is loud in which case I'll leave it be
I have a hellhound 9070xt set to performance bios and though I dont use LACT I can at least tell you I can hear its coil whine more than I can hear the fans themselves
I can only really hear it rev up when I do something like VR or cyberpunk maxed out but its never loud enough to bother me
eeesh
Got a Sapphire Pulse, extremely quiet
Don't forget that almost all the OC cards have a Quiet and Performance vbios switch. If your card got one, its on the top of the card and easily accessible, and a simple left-right switch lever.
make use of it ๐
Mine doesn't, but its quiet by default (and is a non-OC card)
I would also play around with undervolting if you want to make it even more quiet.
voltage is the biggest thermal factor
I got the Sapphire Pulse because of its 2x8-pin. Wanted to avoid 3x8-pin and definitely wanted to avoid the fire hazard that is the 12V-2x6 connector
I've power capped my XT Reaper to 280 watts, after some testing I feel like after that point I don't really see gains enough to justify the extra power and heat
Between 280W and 340W I've found the difference can be like 2-3 frames per second and negligible in motion if it's already pushing 80+
289W is what I settled on and its been working great
Anyone able to play The Dark Ages on this thing without weird artifacting on particle effects and intro videos and the like?
My Hellhound model came with the vbios switch on performance by default. Itโs the only GPU Iโve seen with this mode being default
Itโs still pretty quiet, but in silent mode itโs almost inaudible
Maybe just manufacturing thing. Some QA worker having left it on performance ๐
With how delayed 9070 release was, you never know who did what on your GPU during the 3 months it was sitting in a warehouse somewhere ๐
Having looked at how much stuff is still done by hand in a motherboard factory, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just some employee
they hand fix bad solders
they don't just throw borked boards away
actually mental
Yeah, totally
Seems to have been as simple as setting the acoustic limit to 1400rpm
Now it's what I'd call totally normal
Judging by reviews and owner comments the XFX cards seem to be on the louder side and it's partly cooler design and partly aggressive fan profile

Temps seem fine given it's a Lian Li A3 matx case so the GPU IS the bottom intake fans lol
Last of Us part ii crashes with even -50mv
Trying -40 now but might not be a big gain area for my card
I'm not sure power limit is really doing anything for me. Even down to 250w there's no changes that I can see and I still see spikes >350w
Core clock still between 2.9 and 3ghz
Undervolting is the main performance gain on AMD GPUs, so Iโd start by figuring out which is the lowest offset value you can be stable at. Then increase the power limit for the last bit of performance gains
undervolting can also lead to lower temps if you lower the power limit ๐
it's a neat little trick if you don't care about losing a tiny amount of performance
True ๐ I personally am fine with stock, so I just did the undervolting without touching the power limit. I see the occasional boost up to 3400 MHz. Which is kinda mind blowing
On a separate note, I saw weโre getting fan speed support in the new 6.15 kernel. Does LACT get its data from their own source, as I can already see it in the program on the current kernel version
Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark
250W (noticeable drop in fan noise) - 67fps
304w (default) - 67.7 FPS
340w - 67.08fps
-40mv
I can see curves but if you try to edit them you just get 100% fan speed
I can edit the automatic settings without issues though
@Dobsgw I checked your fan settings above, and the difference with mine is that you have target temp at 80 degrees while mine was set to 92 out of box.
which is quite high, but I haven't noticed it reaching that far even when stress testing
maybe your GPU is targeting hotspot temp
???
then i can understand its 100%
try increasing target fps to 90
see what it does then
Yeah I considered increasing it to 90 as I'd consider that pretty okay for these GPUs and I haven't seen it actually go near that
But just limiting accoustic from 1600rpm to 1400rpm seems to do the job independent of any UV and OC settings. Junction and memory still happy
I think xfx just shipped the cards on the basis "thermals good" and didn't consider accoustics
XFX is very performance first
they are usually the loudest
and also the coolest
Yeah the temps are extremely good
And they should be. Fucking massive cooler lol
350mm
do you have the magnetic air***
No I have the "this was in stock for ยฃ615 with some coupon hacks on eBay edition"
I just took what I saw
OC Gaming edition
Hahaha
that works
Here are mine settings, in case you need a reference

I don't mind manual tuning so I wasn't worried about noise etc and the base performance for any 9070 xt is beyond my needs
Thank you
Crazy if that -100mv is stable
I was doing well at -70mv then in the last couple days every game was crashing
I won OC lottery for the first time in my life
-100mV is insane
you won the silicon lottery
wtf
Looks like it
Try Last of Us Part II - that's the main offender for me
Every CPU and GPU I ever had had a subpar OC
Except this one
All other games were happy.
Cyberpunk was crashing at -80mv
yeah that means its not stable
Sorry, I don't have the game. I normally test using Cyberpunk with PT
just other games dont show the instabiliyt immediately
I had these settings since I got the GPU
Honestly even stock I think these cards are great
True, true
If they made it until now like that, I'd say they'd probably at most have to reduce to -80 / -70 and be solid 99% of the time
Yeah I'm just warning. It could just be CB2077, but if you ever get any other vague issues you can't really explain, you know what might be the cause ๐
I've found the older games are more forgiving and even I could get -80 "stable"
Newer titles are a lot more wobbly
Ah understood now you meant i wasn't stable - yeah 100% seems even -50mv will trip my card up.
Testing -40mv now
Yeah. If any game crashes because of UV that means the UV is not stable, even if it works in 99% of other games
I have an RX 9070 (not an xt) (same model)
And it's really very quiet compared to the old rtx 3060 ti
Before the GPU was very loud, now it's the CPU water cooling ๐
Yeah my friend was complaining about their zotac 3060 ti being a jet engine
My palit 3070 was pretty fine - probably why I'm so sensitive to the XFX card noise
I run this model on a very cool pre-socketed laptop CPU motherboard
all it needs is a fan
i use a Noctua fan on it
the entire system is dead quiet
Incase it helps anyone who stumbles here later I did the following to tame my XFX Rx 9070 xt quicksilver gaming edition) and so far so good on temps:
- Undervolt -40mv (yet to see if it's stable)
- Power limit -10% (270w) (optional depending if you care about small % decreases in perf)
- Accoustic target 1300 rpm
- Case fans and CPU fans silent profile in bios (standard had no temp improvement but was much louder), except CPU exhaust which is standard (this will all depend on your case and fans so play with it and consider consistent medium noise from exhaust might save you from annoying ramping up and down on CPU and GPU my case fans are all Thermalright C12C (exhaust is an Arctic P12 which I'll admit is quieter and I should have got more of them instead)
Temps:
Core: 60-65ยฐ
Junction: 70-75ยฐ
Memory: 80-88ยฐ
Still to try:
- could set the target temperature to 90ยฐ like other cards but I figured with the Accoustic target in place the card wasn't taking the piss anymore.
I think that's it. I think I'm autistic tbh - next build more budget for noctua fans.
My card also came with the switch on performance mode. I figured I'd just try it on that mode and it's so much quieter than my old 2080 Ti (and temps are totally fine) that I haven't even tried silent mode
Been running stable with these settings on my Asrock 9070XT steel legend for weeks running all kinds of games.
Max temps
Core 62
Junction 76
Mem 80
It is audible, my case cooling is ok, not great. But with headphones it's inaudible even just having them on without sound.
Performance is still lacking compared to the windows drivers depending on the game.

I've got the 9070xt pulse, been pretty happy with it and seen only 2 driver crashes under Bazzite, compared to frequent ones in windows (driver restarts at least). My Lact settings (I run my fans a bit higher than most)
Max GPU offset 360 Max VRAM clock 2770
Min VRAM clock 194 Voltage offset -88
Thermals automatic Target Temp 83
Accoustic limit 5000 Accoustic Target 1861
Min Fan Speed% 45 Zero RPM Enabled
Temps: Core 47 -55
Junction 55-65
VRAM: 76-82
I think the hellhound models come with perf switch by default cus mine was also like that
Makes sense I guess
Because benchmarks
"Big number go brrrrrr" - Executives probably
I haven't noticed almost any performance difference between the two modes. The boost clock is almost always limited thermally, and not by the clock speed offset
It's pretty cool that LACT allows you to see when the card is throttling
(Pun wasn't intended ๐ )
this should not affect anyone running bazzite, but i'm posting this here just in case: https://github.com/ilya-zlobintsev/LACT/pull/599

Seems to work no prob in AC Shadows, though wasn't able to immediately get Cyberpunk to work. Could just need some tweaking. Bed time so I'll have to continue tomorrow!
You would still need to use a custom Mesa branch build with FP8 support together with this Proton
Yeah, I read about how to do that here: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/2398#issuecomment-2845201173
It'll be nice when this stuff doesn't require a bunch of extra steps and Just Works
I think Mesa canโt merge this FP8 implementation as itโs an unofficial hack and they are going to wait until the official AMD proposal
At least Iโve read something to this effect
Though Iโm pretty happy running 25.2 git mesa for RT-heavy games, as a get a solid performance improvement. Not something I would recommend for mainstream usage. Itโs definitely an unsupported configuration
Yeah, I'm the type of person who's happy just waiting for that stuff to hit stable. I'm not playing anything RT heavy at the moment anyway
Good to know there's good stuff coming, hopefully AMD releases the info on FSR4 soon so it's simple to use
Fingers crossed ๐ค
I played through Jusant in 4k last week, and 25.2 gets me a solid 10-15% performance boost over stable
Itโs very game dependent though
When do you think we will finally get FSR4 on Mesa stable?
That's the only thing I am missing. Not worrying about RT stuff atm
Anyone else have some VRR weirdness with this card in KDE? It seems like it can get "stuck" on in a specific workspace where after using it the workspace used can stick at something in the VRR range. I can only get it back to normal by toggling and untoggling the VRR setting repeatedly or just using a different workspace. It's very odd.
I never experienced this with my 6700 XT, unsure if it just coincided with a kwin update or something though
what software is this?
LACT
I recently started playing GTA v offline and at a certain point it kept crashing.
Then I disabled the ray tracing function and I got further ๐ค
Are there any problems with ray tracing and the RX 9070?
I remember someone posted about an issue with GPU clocking itself very high and hanging with ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout
I came across this mesa issue with a simple workaround of setting RADV_DEBUG=hang flag
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues?show=eyJpaWQiOiIxMzMwMyIsImZ1bGxfcGF0aCI6Im1lc2EvbWVzYSIsImlkIjoxMzM3MjB9
Yes I guess but usually it only manifests itself as worse performance Vs windows. Not sure about crashing.
If you have an undervolt maybe it's not stable
while playing wow i think it only detects the integrated gpu .... because there is only that option apearing when u try to select which gpu in options
is that ok or no while playing wow
The funny thing is that the whole system crashes.
You have to log in and then everything is black and I can move the mouse.
If I then go to the top left corner I can search for programs and run them. (e.g. the console)
But there are no programs open after the crash.

wonder if bazzite can have this patch in the custom kernel until then?

So... When will Bazzite users be able to use FSR4?
Just read something about Proton GE adding support
Float8 Vulkan extension is out now, unblocking the work on a proper mesa implementation without hacks
Soon

Try adding RADV_DEBUG=nodcc,nohiz
Been so long since the 9070/xt had problems that the forum post got hidden ๐ญ
isnt that a good thing :clueless:
yep no issues here
just waiting on RADV to get better raytracing
it is not even closely on par with windows driver raytracing performance
Oh absolutely
But yeah this
Little spooky if it gets hidden cus it might get marked as resolved even tho there's performance issues
But the stability is much appreciated :)
didn't even know there were issues with it ๐ my 9070xt has been running great, but i have only been playing indie and other easy to run games ๐
I'm leaving Cyberpunk unplayed until the RT improves ๐คฃ The only games where RT is truly transformative, and where 9070xt cannot hit 60 fps at 4K without cutbacks
25.2 is going to get unique RT paths different from RNDA3
right now its just using the same code for RT
said to have ~10% performance increase
Which should be out in a couple of months. Early August based on the current schedule
its crazy we even had RT so early, only because AMD leaves old paths alone
so RT support was easy to just copy paste
i dont think RDNA3 (or was it 2?) was that quick in RT support
I've been watching RADV tag in mesa, and there are new optimizations for RDNA4 dropping every day since official Vulkan extensions has been published! Some crazy work by people who are a lot smarter than me!
new mesa just came out too
ive been testing it on cachyos and i get a bit better performance all around
25.1.4, yeah. Bazzite is still on 25.1.1 for now
Any specific reason we're not upgrading yet? Or just a general desire to wait it out for stability?
I laughed a little bit when I saw stock SteamOS got 25.1.3 yesterday. And people always mock it for being outdated
stability
when we upgraded to mesa 25.0 for RDNA4
that was a hell
broke so much
it was probably a much different experience for people who already had Bazzite stable and working. I got 9070xt on launch, so I resigned myself to an obvious instability
but I can emphasize lol
i think we don't pin it anymore
i think we grab it from terra
so if they update we update
yeah i think new stable build will get mesa 25.1.4
Cool, cool! I hope it wasn't too pushy ๐ I love to have new toys to play with, but I don't want to be overly annoying by begging to updates all the time
I still have sporadic issues with 9070xt and GS9 monitor, but it keeps improving over time.
I wonder, people shit a lot on nvidia for 30% less performance in dx12. How about AMD? Is performance basically the same as on windows? Just bought the 9070XT to replace my 4070 for better Linux experience
apart from RT performance is good
but not as good as RDNA3 which is much more optimized
ist just early adopter stuff
we're also still the only ones who get the "NOT VULKAN COMPLIANT"
bla bla bla
Is it the 10% performance increase you said earlier in this thread or is it even worse?
with RT on its more around 20%
but with 25.2 removing 10% of that is pretty great
im sure there will be more minor improvements once the base implementation is done
Well im gonna see that then when it arrives in 2 days
... or ill forget and ask in support here :aylaemojilaugh:
25.2 is just a full reimplementation of the RT code
no i mean "we" as in "RDNA4"
that vulkan message won't get gone for a while
the problem is that khronos certifies only for specific hardware, not just software
its the hardware+software combo that needs to be certified
its already 99.99999% compliant im sure
10% worse RT performance than windows on 25.2 is totally acceptable for me personally yea
give it a year and it will be equal
or better
That a meme that people say every year or is that an actual reasoned estimation? :aylaemojilaugh:
Not to sound cynical
Actual reasoned
Right now RT code is shared so mesa can't add rdna4 specific code
Yea i do agree having seen the recent development. Not a lot knowledge though as a dev with some linux knowledge and nothing more
With 25.2 it will re-implement RT stuff and from that point you can keep making stuff better
Specific for rdna4
I wonder if that happens eventually
Just gotta remind yourself Intel battlemage is still not good and rdna4 was very lucky in how fast it went well
The way it is now hasn't happened with every generation
It's been how many months? Barely any
A bit sad though that even AMD doesnt offer the same quality drivers for linux then
well their drivers are great actually
its just mesa that needs to catch up ๐
that is not AMD
can you explain a noob like me what mesa is? I assume its some kind of driver layer in between?
Its been 6 years since i had AMD, so i really hope im gonna be pleasantly surprised. Everything is a step up from nvidia drivers on linux and even on windows (well not drivers, but geforce experience / nvidia app is crap)
Ah googled already. Yea now i get it
Mesa translates the extensions used by software (Vulkan, OpenGL) into a format usable by the kernel DRM
DRM as in Direct Rendering Manager ๐
not Digital Rights Management
the amdgpu kernel driver is actually the most solid gpu driver in linux land
Well good choice then to switch now :p
Hopefully the software is also pretty okay.
Because the nvidia app on linux is a joke (or im blind and there is a better alternative)
so basically you get App->Mesa->DRM->amdgpu
DRM you could kind of see as the WDDM of Linux (not exactly, but close enough for the average user)
Ah gotcha. And mesa is the only one not having fully catched up to latest stuff, right?
well its mesa that pretty much defines your game performance
amd exposes interfaces, mesa uses those interfaces
however you use those interfaces will define how much performance you will get, it all makes perfect sense ๐
Makes total sense to me as a dev. Can use the most performant programming language, but it will still be slow with old / bad code
We just got pretty lucky with a new architecture that we're pretty much feature complete in just a few months
that doesn't always happen
intel battlemage is still rough AF
Yea gotcha. Well, waiting game then. As long as i see a higher fps number in clair obscur as i did with my 4070 im happy
Nah there are at least 3 current ones I can think of - Mafia DE doesnt work currently (should be fixed though already in mesa-git apparently), Amnesia Bunker too just CTDs and ray tracing in Monster Hunter is still not allowed to be enabled ๐ข
But following this thread mostly for FSR4 discussion that happened here.
Is very smooth though like otherwise, those issues (apart from Monster Hunter) arent my personal ones but confirmed they do happen as I have those games too.
Funny btw, hadnt even noticed that too much tbh yet in what I could turn it on, never tried the GPU on Windows to compare lol, was already Bazzite user when I got it, just made a fresh install when I swapped the GPU for the Deck image (had Nvidia image before because... Nvidia lol...)
Nice to hear I can expect only better perf overall with time though ๐
You can enable RT in Monster Hunter if you add
/WineDetectionEnabled:False
as a launch parameterWill try, although I think I read it is disabled on purpose now as mesa or sth misses some instruction and it crashes with it
For what it's worth, this is still occurring though it's difficult to tell if it's actually workspace-specific or if the workspace switching animation is just disrupting it somehow. Turning on my monitor's refresh rate display, it's jumping between 48hz and my max refresh rate and will do so even sitting at the desktop with nothing happening.
I see the same issue. Itโs mildly better than before, but I would prefer to keep VRR off except in games.
Currently Automatic mode enables VRR for fullscreen apps like video players, browser windows and Spectacle.
I have blocked it through window rules for every individual app that I use in fullscreen, but it would have been great to be able to remove all that
same actually
if I put VRR to always, it's 48hz on desktop except if I move my mouse a lot
seems intended though
For me it also happens on automatic, and even when it's off if it was previously on
I think that's a bug, as per the docs automatic should only enable VRR for fullscreen apps
"Plasma 6.4 has improved the cursor smoothness and reduced flickering around Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) functionality. The change to the KWin compositor is for taking the minimum VRR refresh rate into account for cursor updates to help make the cursor smoother and help with VRR flickering if the minimum refresh rate is higher than 30Hz."
this is why it's using 48 hz, as it's the lower edge of the vrr window. but I don't see why would it do so in automatic mode
I would also say it's a bug, Don't know if I should open a bug on their tracker
Temp fix for me was disabling VRR completely, changing refresh rate to lower hz, changing refresh rate back to 144hz, then put VRR on automatic
stays at 144hz on desktop and VRR works in games afterwards
and it does not break after reboot, maybe its just an update issue
Do you think we will get FSR4 support on Mesa 25.2?
No
Technically already does, but not in the way you think
Games implement FSR4
FSR4 already works with certain Proton versions
I read something like FSR 4 needed a Mesa git version with some FP8 patch, so it was not official. I don't understand that much about it, tbh
But FSR 4 is awesome. I went back to Windows due to that, but in the end Windows sucks so much that I am currently using XeSS 2.0 on Bazzite again. Not as good as FSR4 but way better than FSR 3 imo.
why is the information on google so f'ing conflicted
ok no you do need an fsr4 branch
HOLY SH**, IT WORKED WITH OPTISCALLER AND PROTON GE
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO
After some hours of testing, I have to say that FSR 4 works by using the latest Bazzite version, Proton GE 10.4 and even Optiscaller.
It's insane how FSR 4 in performance mode looks just as good as native XeSS and better than native FSR 3.1
However, it is definitely not optimized yet. It hits stupidly hard on FPS in its current state, so I think it is not worth it yet.
I wonder if it is actually using all the FP8 and AI accelerated cores
FP8 won't land until Mesa 25.2
next quarter
I see. Is it using FP16 on RDNA 4 too?
That would make sense I guess
https://docs.mesa3d.org/release-calendar.html
This should give a rough timeline for when to expect 25.2. Currently early August
We are not that far way then ๐๐ผ
You know I was just wondering if they were still working on the 9070 support because while it works well its certainly not putting out the preformance I woulda expected. Then this thread popped up. lol
Mesa changes were merged to main this morning. Vkd3d is still pending
I hope theyโll make it in time for 25.2 release window
Anyone else having issues with this card through a dp to hdmi adapter and know any workaround? I have the same issue described here: https://redlib.privacyredirect.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1lrs7lm/problem_with_refresh_rates/ I have to replug my adapter every reboot to manage 4k120, only started working like this once I picked up my 9070xt. It was janky before but I could at least get it working without physically reconnecting.
Problem with refresh rates. - r/linux_gaming
View on Redlib, an alternative private front-end to Reddit.
both hdmi and DP work for me so my first guess would be its an issue with the adapter it's self. That being said if your using an adapter to try to cheat the resolution, probably gonna cause some headaches on any system.
does anyone know what version of mesa is bazzite testing branch on?
I'd check but im not home and idk where to check for that info on the project repo :skeletonappears:
:salutedroaches:
thank u
It worked pretty fine on my 6700 XT on the same install
Similar issue with bazzite and such adapters. Tried dp to hdmi 2.0/2.1 active adapters. Had no sound. Need to replug everytime to get it working on mint. Doesnt work at all on bazzite. Cant explain this as it works just fine with windows.
active adapters are a hit or miss because they convert the signal. The GPU will use whatever the adapter reports and then the adapter converts it. If something is wrong then it's likely the adapter.
I fought with trying to make HDMI work for high-res high refresh rate. I settled on getting a display port KVM switch since my display had a single display port it could use. Pretty happy with the outcome and way less hassle.
There's clearly something different about the source if multiple people had their adapters stop working the moment they plugged it into this card. That said I know it's likely a quirk of the card and adapter outside your control, I'm just searching for workarounds
Unfortunately I still need to fight with it since that's all my tv has
I'm currently using a DP to HDMI adapter as output. I have zero issues with 4k@120 HDRI on. However, if I go 4k@60 or other refresh rates or resolutions, I experience awful color banding or a black screen outright (however, I think this has to do with the HDMI port I use in my Hisense TV, which expects 144 and/or a variable refresh rate, so it considers lower resolutions like the signal is too weak). As for the color banding, I'm not sure if it is a Windows/Wayland thing or a TV/DP adapter/HDMI thing since I still experience it when using the APU to display instead of the 9070xt. So I just leave it at 4k@120 and just mess with the resolution in-game or with the game mode settings within Steam.
Dang, yeah thatโs unfortunate
any news
25.2 isn't going to hit stable until next month iirc
Ye, itโs coming next month
Not bad at all ๐
and mesa 25.2 is just the first of many improvements. This is just the start of the new RDNA4 raytracing code
is there a way to pull down a test build?

Added FSR4 upgrade support via PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 (auto upgrades from amd directly https://download.amd.com/dir/bin/amdxcffx64.dll)
What exactly does "auto upgrade" mean here?
I assume its just the same as the FSR4_UPGRADE=1 flag, but this one will go out and grab the dll for you and place it into the prefix. But i've yet to look at it or try it yet.
Auto-upgrade means the the game with FSR 3.1 will be automatically updated to FSR 4 using the same DLL that AMD driver uses for this process on Windows
It still wouldn't work with the current stable Mesa afaik
it does afaik. just don't have the fp8 patches so perf isn't as good. but you can use mesa-git.
Oooh, nice. I'll have to try it next time I boot up my desktop
Is it supported or no? Jeez this is turning into a tech support thread

Your confusion aside, yes it works and the rest of the discussion here is about the nuances of its support. There's a good few performance uplifts yet to come.

Seems like it, otherwise it'd say 3.1

Dang
Ah
9070 xt, 9800x3d x4 foundations black screen on launch ๐
Takes forever to load it seems like. Eventually it comes out of it and runs. Only game so far I see a issue with.
Doesn't the current COD have native FSR4, iirc from the 9070xt reviews you can choose it ingame instead of the driver override
no idea
i dont play COD
:clueless:
thats why i said probably
How can I load a beta version of MESA 25.2 to test?
there's new ujust command
it only works for specific games
not globally
to avoid issues
Bummer
it should be fine for your FSR4 testing?
thats what it was initially made for
so people didn't need to wait for mesa 25.2 FSR4 on bazzite. it is great for benchmarking mesa updates too
Ohh so you mean it only impacts certain games? Not that I have to manage each game separately.
Happen to know what the command is? I have been baselining with Cyberpunk with ray tracing on.
Happen to know what the command is? I have been baselining with Cyberpunk with ray tracing on.
I believe you have to add a launch command to each game after setting it up and that's it
what is the launch command?
~/mesa-git/mesa-git
assuming you have properly used the ujust, just don't expect to get much support getting games running, as its not official. Also Mesa 25.2 is scheduled for early next month, so it'll hit stable soon enough
So fsr 4 in bazzite in the coming months? ๐ต
Mesa 25.2
Stable
FSR4 looks better but unless some performance increases happen from now and the stable release, performance is ~15% worse than FSR3/3.1 for me
2 weeks
coming in August
You can drop the scaling level setting with FSR4 with much less image quality impact compared to 3 though.
I play most of the games with FSR4 at 4K performance, and looks and runs better than FSR3 quality
We are almost there for Mesa 25.2 stable ๐คฉ
Yay
just 2 more weeks right?
also 6.16 during that timeframe i think
for fedora
This the release schedule?
https://docs.mesa3d.org/release-calendar.html
So totally strange question but do Radeon 9070XTs allow for GPU clock adjustments (or TDP adjustments) in Game Mode?
Might get one soon
LACT
You go to desktop mode (assume game mode you mean to run an HTPC) and use LACT as Kyle says. It's an open source tool for GPU tweaking and will save and apply settings when you return to gaming mode
Ah okay
Was thinking you could adjust the clocks on the fly like you could on the Steam Deck or Ally
Now thatโd be really cool (but obviously, not at all realistic)
โฆhonestly, damn
I was really hoping integrated TDP/GPU clock control would work on Game Mode; really liked those features
Valve doesnt' care too much about desktop gaming
in terms of gaming mode features
Fair
on the bazzite version that just released hhd got external controller support
proper
so this is something we can do now
if only i had a dgpu
I see
man eGPU's are expensive as heck
especially USB-C ones
but what options are even relevant
hhd has dgpu bugs too
also on dgpu you don't just change the TDP
not how it works
i mean you can change the power limit
but that will cause instability
so lact does fan curves, vram/gpu clocks, and a voltage bump
Technically it does
I can increase the max wattage
Up to a set limit
But there's just no reason to do proper TDP adjustment on a desktop
At all
The few times I've seen someone ask for it it's usually "I want to lower the TDP to fix an issue where my computer crashes when I'm playing this game with the frame limiter turned off"
And it's like, your hardware is broken and you want to work around it in software
Fix your power supply, RMA your parts
Why are you taking to me
why do people use lact
Overclock and undervolt
so just bump or lower rthe voltage?
Adjust max clocks, adjust voltage offset
And adjust max draw, which is usually up to plus 15%
Everything else is part of the ramp algo in the card
Can we expect Mesa 25.2 today?
Or is a -rc4 coming first?
I donโt see any release blockers for 25.2 on their tracker, but overall
I want it badly already, ngl ๐ฅ
Itโs out now
LFKN GOOOOOOO
@Kyle Gospo all yours now ๐๐ผ
Cannot wait ๐ฅ
FSR4 was what I was missing the most tbh
๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
25.2. Includes FSR4?
But probably not for all games right?
Also, when will 25.2. Hit bazzite stable? Next release, right?
25.2 includes optimization in order to make FSR 4 work properly. You can make FSR 4 work right now but the impact in performance is huge
I would love to have that answer haha
Maybe today or tomorrow, based on how they normally work. Only they know.
Very looking forward to it, ngl
I put FF7 Rebirth in pause because it looks like crap on my 4k TV without FSR 4
Ahh neat. Is there some execution flag or smth to see if the game im running is using fsr4 or 3?
You can use Proton GE 10.10, but use Proton GE 10.9 guide on how to apply it. Very easy right now.
I already tested it in Marvel Rivals, Stellar Blade and Spiderman.
Games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth need Optiscaller though, but it is easy to set up as well rn
So, in other words: in order to ""emulate"" what it is done on Windows (a toggle on Adrenalin that injects FSR4) you need to download Proton GE 10.10, add a game parameter on Steam (you can find it in Proton GE 10.9 instructions) and that's it
I have all my FSR 4 games ready, I only need the update in order to get the enhancements from Mesa 25.2 and get the performance boost to make FSR 4 finally worth it on Linux performance wise.
Both injecting and via Optiscaler work perfectly rn
Ah thay sounds easy actually.
Though I do wonder if at some point we can actually officially toggle this for games without any guides?
(I need to admit I never used FSR4 on Windows so I don't know how it works there.)
I assumed it would be an ingame selection
Yes, we will get to that point. Actually, if I am not mistaken, later this year we should be able to just swap a .dll file within the game folder and get FSR 4 working.
Basically FSR 4 is not officially provided yet to the public. Not even devs have it. The only way to get it is by "injecting" it over FSR 3.1
it will be when games are updated for it, currently it's mostly an external override for FSR3 games
on windows you do it through the driver
Once AMD releases their stuff, we should be able to do what it does on the Nvidia side, which is pretty much updating the DLSS version by swapping .dll files and that's it.
We will get to that point. In the meantime, we have to inject it
Ahh so this was my misconception. I thought FSR4 was officially available in windows.
It is officially available to inject via AMD driver app in selected games.
You can also inject FSR 4 in many many other games by overriding DLSS inputs via a tool called Optiscaller, which works on Linux as well
However Optiscaler path is different from the Proton GE guide I shared with you.
That Proton GE method let's say "simulates" what is done in the Windows AMD driver tool.
Optiscaler works differently
Ah, neat, thank you a lot for the explanation.
I will wait a bit anyway as most games run fine for me even without FSR with my 9070xt, but maybe for clair obscur or smth this might be useful
I prefer FSR 4 or DLSS anti aliasing over the TAA we know, so it is crucial for me in games like those, ngl
I play in 4k so either native AA via ai upscaling or going to balance/performance and bump graphics makes difference as image is cleaner
I think Cyberpunk officially supports it with the latest update
Or at least that's what I've heard, I don't own the game myself
It does. cyberpunk works oob with mesa 25.2. You donโt need Optiscaler or anything
I thought the only performance improvements were for RT for the 9070 line. There arent any FSR4 performance improvements afaik.
25.2 include FS8 support. That's the key
Ah yeah, thats only affects non 9070 users right?
Can't wait to actually test FSR4
I'm going from no native framegen capability to one of the best
Funny isnt it, FSR4 support comes to linux first for non 9070's before Win. Thats kinda crazy when you think about it
To be fair, AMD's drivers on Linux are completely open source
The second AMD adds something it's immediately heavily optimized for Linux
How do you guys control fans on your 9070 XTs?
lact
But it follows the jucntion temp, which spikes to ~80 degrees as soon as it feels some load?
Instant temp spike = instant fan ramp ups = very noticeable noise
Is there any way to set a fan curve based on the edge temp?
I just increased the target temperature for my saphire pulse to 90 to not have it ramp up too soon. Its default profile is way too agressive.
You could use coolercontrol to have it follow a different sensor, but that seems like a bad idea really. The delta between hotpsot and edge can be very large on this generation.
Coolercontrol would be perfect as I already use it for my CPU, but sadly it "conflicted" with LACT while I was on Fedora (they were fighting for the fan control lol)
Plus I'm not sure how to make CoolerControl work with my card on Bazzite.
"[2025-08-07T15:16:17Z WARN coolercontrold::repositories::hwmon::fans] PWM fan at /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm1 is NOT writable - Fan control is not currently supported by the installed driver."
Are you sure that's that fan controller? I get that error too, but that's because my mobo is not fully compliant with the default lm-sensors config.

I haven't tested this of course. You can fully customise the fan curve in lact. I'm just running these settings and never have it ramp up above 900 rpm except when gaming. The ramp up is to cool down the memory I'm pretty sure, as it doesn't happen when I don't have my case fans on silent profile.

uhoh. wanted to buy an RX 9060 XT. Is that supported?
9060xt works yeah
Alright then. This seems like a good balance to me. Using these settings, fan ramp ups are not sudden, and 2000 RPM is a "fine" noise level I can tolerate

I just use the stock fan curve on mine. Seems fine

:testing
if you're on a -deck image hold off
there's an issue with gamescope:letsgo:
Cannot wait ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
I love how this thread has become the defacto rx 9000 series discussion/update thread

why create multiple thread when you can have only one?
Emotional and hype support is still support!
Everyone just wants to try FSR 4 ๐
Mesa 25.2 is old and tired, 25.3 is my new best friest ๐
https://www.phoronix.com/news/RADV-RDNA4-Tri-Pair-Compress
RADV Implements Triangle Pair Compression For AMD RDNA4 GPUs
The latest Radeon RADV driver ray-tracing optimization being merged to Mesa 25.3 is support for triangle pair compression with RDNA4 (GFX12) graphics processors.
So is the 9070xt ok for Bazzite now?
It's been ok since like April
So when can we expect 25.3? :clueless:
In 3 months? ๐
Or you could just run Mesa git
nah mesa git is not advisable for Bazzite
even if you create a custom image
ujust _mesa-git
if you want to play around with itHello, guys totally new to Bazzite here. I love it, it's incredible and I am so glad I switched from windows! One little question; if I have understood correctly AMD drivers are not needed, and they get updated with MESA, Is that correct? So how do I check my MESA version and IF there is a new version how do I update it? I don't know if that is needed but I own an RX 9070 XT OC from XFX (and that is also why I am asking this question here). Thanks!
Drivers are a part of the OS and are automatically kept up to date when the OS is updated.
You donโt need to do anything manually
this is also true of any linux distro, the concept of "updating drivers" isn't a thing here
you just update your system
Nice! Thank you! One more question, how often do they get updated? Does it happen in correspondence of major AMD driver updates?
AMD doesn't have a driver they update separately
for linux
it's all in the kernel
I got it, thanks ๐ซก
Why not?
Oh, this didnt come up in the usual ujust command list ๐ค
it's hidden because it is experimental.
Do we have a list of these exprimental commands somewhere. Id love to go through
the just scripts live in /usr/share/ublue-os/just so you can find all of them there. afaik there isn't a way to list the hidden scripts like the normal ones.
@Kyle Gospo Hi there!
Has the newest testing version addressed the Game scope issue with Mesa 25.2.0-2 for Deck version?
I am out from home till Monday but just saw the newest version. Asking because I thought you were going to go back to Mesa 25.1.7-1.
I would love to go back to testing once I get home if that's the case
yes
also adds AMD Anti-lag
from 25.3
You guys are insane...
Thank you!
Cannot wait for Monday to test it ๐ฅ
stable building w/ 25.2.0 now too
I was literally saying earlier today "eh ill just wait until stable gets it" lol

Question about FSR 4. Is it expected to have such a big performance drop from using it?
I have to drop at least two or three quality levels just to get the same performance as FSR 3
In THE FINALS, for example, with FSR override, I have to drop it all the way down to Ultra Performance just to get similar FPS to Native AA
No way this is correct, right? Surely this is a Linux thing?
I don't have exact performance numbers, but FSR4 is expected to be slower than 3. The upside is that the image stability is still better with 4 even with lower quality level
You can check one of FSR4 reviews Youtube. I think Hardware Unboxed tested The Finals
I'm seeing considerably less performance in cyberpunk w/ fsr4 performance + rt (compared to videos of people on windows)

Check this out, these are Windows numbers, but it should be roughly the same on Linux
FWIW I see exactly the same perf with FSR4 on 25.2 as I had on mesa-git, so there's nothing wrong with new release
Just glad to have proton-wayland working again, as git broke it at some point recently
how to use proton-wayland?
Does GE works?
cause I tried using the PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 env var
but mangohud still shows XWayland as Display Server
That's what I'm doing - GE + env var
it's still experimental, so there are expected be issues

What if you pass mangohud var before the wayland one?
I watch their channel and no, they did not test FSR 4 in The Finals.
According the the video you sent, we should expect to see a performance drop equal of a one quality level change in FSR 3 (FSR 4 "Performance" should give you roughly the same FPS as FSR 3 "Balanced"). Yet on Linux, at least for me, the Performance drop is much more noticeable, equal to about two or three quality levels change in FSR 3. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same big performance penalty on Bazzite

How come i dont see mesa 25.2 as an update? ๐ค
Ive run the updater a few times now..
Here, made this. It clearly demonstrates the issue I'm having

Is there a way to swap out FSR 3.1 with 4 in supported games with proton experimental or does it just work with variants like GE? Besides optiscaler
Afaik, you can force fsr4 with the dll override from ge-proton, but itll still show as FSR 3 in game (unless the game supports it ofc).
Opti does the same thing.
@Leese Have you tested other games? I also thought FSR4 was quite slow on CP but i didnt look into it.
I actually don't have a lot of games that I can test it in rn (KCD 2 crashes with FSR 4, and RDR 2 crashes when I select DX12, which is needed for optiscaler).
However I will fire up some Ready or Not and test the FPS in the shooting range. It works with Optiscaler pretty well, so I can swap between FSR 4 and 3.1 on the fly
Going to try to do some comparisons in a couple hours on my 9070. Going to try at least Cyberpunk and Oblivion remastered. Need to see what other games I have are fsr4 compatible
Ill compare some FSR 4 benches btwn win 11 and ge-proton 10-10 (mesa 25.1)
Here. It's better, but still not as good as it should be

Note: I'm not sure about the "Native TAA" relative line, because Ready Or Not doesn't explicitly tell us what AA it's using.
"Epic" AA setting tanked the FPS way too much, so I assumed it's some form of MSAA. Setting it to "Low" brought the baseline FPS closer to what I would expect from TAA in other games
Oh yeah, there's definitely something weird with 'Native' FSR4 in cyberpunk.
Im getting about 20% minimum fps on bazzite than i do on Win 11. Thats a huge gap.
Bazzite (ge-proton 10-10, mesa 25.1.7) : Min 88.18, max 208
Win 11 25.8.1 : min 112, max 165
Its almost like the min fps is being sacrificed for the max fps, very weird.
I tested the Quality option too and thats more inline with Win 11 performance, about a 10% difference.
Looks like a frame pacing issue
wdym?
i think there's something going wrong with bazzite's 9000 series card implementation, i have a 9060xt and have had a couple performance TANKS in games like roblox and minecraft (i'm talking sub 100 fps in both 99% of the time), and i've just gone and installed CachyOS and the issues are completely resolved
if fsr4 in general is having problems in bazzite as well it's possible that's happening with me as well and i just didn't realise because i went from a 3060ti to this 9060xt and the numbers went up in games like cyberpunk
i'd be interested to see if these issues get replicated in a different OS like cachy
cause bazzite's still on the 6.15.9 linux kernel and cachy is on 6.16.0
that's my leading theory on why my performance is so much higher in cachy
There's nothing specific to us
It's Mesa and kernel 6.15
We don't even patch them beyond the SteamOS patches which Cachy also ships
Make sure you're on latest, we just shipped the newest Mesa
so Bazzite is now on 6.16 yeah?
We need some more benchmarks
6.15.9
You can always see the changelog on GitHub: https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/releases/
I'm reluctant to switch then, it seems like 6.15.9 is a major bottleneck for the 9060XT
Im currently on the 9070XT and my main issue is a 1-second-freeze every few minutes. couuld be connected to this, could be something else entirely
Weird my 9070xt has been working flawlessly, I had a single driver crash for the first time today which was odd but other wise its been smooth sailings
well.. aside from that I had polygon errors in Horizon forbidden west, but that was fixed after recent update (+re-cache).
Also get a kernel panic out of nowhere every few days, but since there aren't really any crash dumps, only the gods may know why they occur.
Do you play many different games? I feel the issues are engine-dependant.
i play wow/minecraft/cyberpunk/diablo and then a handful of smaller steam games
like i said i did have a driver crash occur today after the new mesa update but its only happened once so it could just be gremlins
nothing to do with it
this user's issue pointed out that their performance issues were in flatpaks
so, double nothing to do with us
carry on, do update and let us know what you think of the new mesa
and reminder not to believe a single user's experience
Mesa 25.2 dropped.
FSR 4 issues are solved

What a time to be alive
Now that's what I'm talking about
I also included the 25.3 anti-lag stuff
So if you have any games that implement that via the Vulkan extension you should be able to enable it now
That explains why I saw "AntiLag 2" toggle in The Finals, despite reading that it won't be available till 25.3. Thanks!
Has anyone had any luck getting fsr 4 showing up in game in cyberpunk 2.3? Only have been able to get it to work through optiscaler
Yes. Had to add PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 to the launch arguments
As a note, that requires GE Proton 10-9+
No luck with that launch option and GE Proton 10-10. It shows up as an option when I have optiscaler installed. Did some quick test and Iโm only seeing a 10% loss in fps with fsr4 in cyberpunk no ray tracing. Edit: GTA V installed via heroic works with with GE proton 10-10 with the env var set, not sure whatโs going on with cyberpunk. Edit 2: Somehow turning on Proton logging made it work, still works when removing environment variable
Hmm, still the same low perf on cyberpunk with mesa 25.2. It got alil worse actually ๐ค
Also, is lact broken? -- Nope, runnign fine after a restart.
How much of a performance hit are you seeing fsr3 vs fsr4?
About 10-15%? Its justified though, fsr3 barely compares to fsr4
I see about 10% difference FSR3 vs FSR4 in Cyberpunk
I'm curious how to check Anti-Lag feature. I have only a couple of games that should support it, but I don't see the toggle in their settings UI
vulkaninfo | grep anti_lag
output says that VK_AMD_anti_lag
is supported, but wonder if there's something ingame I can use to verify if it's working on notThe anti lag feature should be part of mesa so i think you just need a game that uses it? I remember Ghost of Tsuhima having it.
It's interesting that these are all the games they list https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/adrenalin/radeon-software-anti-lag.html
but I remember that it was touted as a big feature in Witcher 3 Next-Gen update among others
I was seeing similar drops in fps on my 9070. Will try the anti lag on Ghost of Tsushima later today. Is there an easy way to detect if fsr4 is on for games without the toggle?
What do you know, I see the toggle in Naraka Bladepoint in DX12 mode (idk what the game is, just the first free game from the list on AMD website)

it is expected that fsr4 runs slower than fsr3
fsr3 is a shimmerfest its terrible
fsr4 actually usable
Opti's Reflex -> AL2 mapping is actually working now, that's cool!
Set it to "Ultra Performance". If it looks "Ultra Garbage", it's FSR 3. If it looks "Bad" - it's FSR 4
The Finals also
Sadly, Cyberpunk without FSR 3 still far lower FPS compared to same settings running under Windows
Got FSR4 and Anti-Lag 2 working in Ghost of Tsushima. About 5-10% difference in fps

Anyone having this issue whereby if you're using FSR frame gen, whenever you move your camera there will be some artifacts on the right corner of the screen?
how did you get this log? is this after a kernel panic? asking, as I'm currently trying to find out what causing mine
journalctl --since "90 minutes ago" | grep -iE "kwin|plasma|amdgpu|gpu|segfault|crash"
Im not getting kernel panics I just get a freeze then black screen and I'm back at the login screen
ah dang... I think this log gets reset after new boot. shame
ujust logs-last-boot would probably get them then
I had a similar crash last night while playing OpenMW.
I hope it won't become a reocurring thing
25.2.1 is due 20th
might bring some fixes
Yeah fingers crossed
Did you also create this log with journalctl? System just crashed on me and this time it wasn't a full kernel panic
Yep, you can grep it for amdgpu
Havenโt seen any more crashes after that one
ok. just in case it might be helpful, here is my log during the crash. https://paste.centos.org/view/9472edcb
another observation: while the game freezes/crashes (3rd time in 2 hours) , CPU usage goes up until the app is closed.

I assume when it goes in full kernel panic/reboot, its GPU related, and in this case here its CPU related, but not sure how to get logs for that
I ended up rolling back to August 4th to wait for the next version
that could still mean dead gpu thread
if gpu process is dead the cpu might go into overtime because gpu ain't doing shit anymore
Anecdotal but I think my losing signal issues are much improved with mesa 25.2 between 9070xt and Samsung G9.
oh wow there's been a ton of updates since the last time I checked in
I had to switch to fedora cause I just couldnt get unity to install on bazzite but wow
does mesa 25.2 also bring RT improvements or does it only really improve FSR4?
anyone else want afmf on Linux
i've been enjoying the feature on Windows and I feel if it could be used on Linux we'd at least have another option if lossless fails to work
would be neat but iirc thats closed source so would need a different driver than mesa
Could always try the LSFG Linux port
There's a ujust script for it
there are 2 main RT improvements: 1 that benefits RDNA3 and RDNA4 and one that only benefits RDNA4 due to it using new code paths only available on the latter.
i believe on RDNA4 the RT performance is about 30% better in certain cases
so yes, there are some massive RT perf improvements
Awesome
I'm just waiting for RT to improve so I can start playing cyberpunk again lmao
Soon โข
Yap, when it works, its fantastic. I played cyberpunk with RT at 70 fps and with AFMF, it felt like 120 fps.
AMD's built-in performance monitor shows the after-framegen fps so you can see exactly how many frames it's adding
it's about 2x framegen iirc
I have a feelign were not gonna see it on linux for a while. At least weve got lsfg for now
yeah
and now that my pc is actually working I can actually test framegen properly
Valveโs performance overlay is doing that on Windows, but not on Linux yet
I did some Cyberpunk testing on the day 25.2 dropped, and with very heavy RT settings in 4k my performance increased by about 25%
Would be nice to get a bit more to reach parity with Windows performance, but Iโm unsure if there are any ongoing efforts to improve it further at this moment, so we might have to wait a bit
They're working on compression for RT stuff right now
That'll come in 25.3
Do you know if thereโs a MR for it to keep track of already?
https://paste.centos.org/view/5cf7fb19
another day, another kernel panic while gaming. :c
me when my friends ask me how its going, after I loudly announced I ditched M$
it might be worth reporting that to mesa directly too if its giving you kernel panics
yeah and make sure to undo any undervolt or overclock if you got one
sometimes updates to mesa or kernel can expose gpu instability in ways that didn't show before
True, but I got the suspicion my NZXT mainboard bios might do funky stuff by default.
Is there a list of ~BIOS don'ts~?
I had this while playing a game. The PC just froze. Looks like a GPU issue. Can someone confirm?
I'm not running an OC/UV
Buying an NZXT motherboard is the first bios dont ๐ตโ๐ซ
I didn't even know they made them
unfortunately the only mainboard without pipesharing I coud find.
Still would kinda suck if it was like "If you got this mainboard, you cant use bazzite"
Hopefully the mesa theyre dropping in a few days helps
My 9070XT has been crushing everything I throw at it, such a good card
yeah mine was rock solid till 25.2 then i started getting weird crashes to the login screen ๐
downgrading back to the aug 4 image fixed it
I found a couple of threads mentioning trying amdgpu.runpm=0 iommu=pt to help my issue, anything special to know about trying that on bazzite?
Like the system would freeze, then wake up at the login screen?
Were you able to login afterwards, or it didn't let you?
System would freeze screen would turn black then I was at log in screen like nothing happened. Could log in just fine
Are we getting the new mesa tomorrow? Im hoping there will be improvements for these crashes ๐
https://paste.centos.org/view/e10a399f more logs if anyone here is tracking i have a thread opened with mesa too
What new mesa - 25.2 just released ๐ค
25.2.1 comes out today
and hopefully brings some bug fixes and better stability with it than 25.2 did
In my case it looks like UV was the culprit. The settings that were 100% stable for months were causing instability with 25.2. Returning back to stock, no more crashes anymore.
Iโll give it a few more weeks, then will try to tune up the settings again
it is out, just not on website yet: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2025-August/226550.html
only a tiny amount of RADV fixes
and half of them are for specific older GPUs
to be fair i haven't noticed even a single issue yet, but i've only been playing a handful of games
I opened a bug thread on the mesa github Ive had issues on both nobara and bazzite with the 25.2 one it sucks, I just ended up rebasing over to aurora though its a bit less bleeding edge which is kinda nice for my usage anyway
this makes sense though because the old mesa was not pushing hardware to the limits
or using new RDNA4 features
I was thinking along the same lines, but Iโve had crashes in OpenMW, which is pretty conservative feature-wise: no upscaling or RT
i wish they would migrate to vulkanscenegraph
but i guess its not that easy
openscenegraph is a dead project for many years now
Itโs mostly sustained near full GPU load for hours at high refresh rate
Lots of potential improvements tbh, like occlusion culling to name a big one
Not surprised if itโs hard when the engine wasnโt built with that in mind
when they swapped from Ogre3D to OSG that came with so many new bugs
and openmw is so slow moving that i understand that they don't just swap
Have you seen the rain occlusion feature theyโve added in 0.49? It stops the rain below overhangs at quite substantial performance cost
yeah thats something i believe they had to hack in due to no real support in OSG
Sun shadows are also pretty cool, but very expensive at sunset and sunrise when the sun is close to the horizon
try sun shadows at long render
oof
now that tanks your FPS
I tried that, and every sunrise/sunset in a large city it dipped below 60 on 9070xt lol
i play with Expanded Vanilla modpack through OpenMW Modding (automatic install) and turning on long distance render is so beautiful
even if it dynamically makes billboard textures, its still terribly slow
as opposed to prebaked
like in skyrim
i suppose thats part of the performance dip, the dynamic generation of billboard textures
it's the only feature I keep disabled, because at the time when it makes the most difference, it's just impractical performance-wise
Do we have fsr 4 now? ๐
Yes
Nice! How is performance
Worse than 3.1 but worth jt
It
Fsr4 is far better than 3.1
How can we activate it or will it work automatically?
Either the game supports it, or you upgrade it with optiscaler or GE proton
Cyberpunk should support it, but I had to use the GEProton variable. But the game won't launch past the main screen with it enabled from settings
So, how to do that?
https://github.com/OptiScaler/OptiScaler
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-9
You can use a newer GE proton, but the instructions for the fsr upgrade are on the 10-9 changelog
I suggest using Proton GE latest option in ProtonPlus - this makes future updates much easier
last kernel/mesa 25.2.1-4 seem to maybe finally fixed my ring timeouts
Yep, that's the main reason I switched from ProtonUp
I just open ProtonPlus once in a while and the update is taken care of
Oh does it automatically batch update?
Oh I see it adds latest as a compatibility tool and presumably updates it in the background so you don't have to change
Not my preferred behavior but could be nice for my wife who doesn't watch changelogs and stuff
Not in the background, but when the program is launched iirc. I guess you can autostart it on boot to achieve that
Oh yeah I worded that wrong, I meant it updates what ge-latest is instead of adding a new entry
Yes, so you don't have to restart steam or change your default proton or any individual game overrides whenever it updates if you tend to just use latest
Latest version tends to introduce too many issues for me to want that :P
Fair, I still use 9-27 a lot when I need GE, especially if the game isn't brand new
I'm getting amdgpu pageflip crashes when trying to play Silent Hill f on my 9070 XT. It usually crashes around the start of the opening cutscene, but one time it crashed before reaching the main menu and one time I was able to get much further into the cutscene after removing
PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1
from my launch options.
My system was a bit outdated so I've updated (bazzite stable) and am now on Mesa 25.2.1-4 and using the latest Proton GEAny updates on getting RT performance to match up closer to Windows?
I think that will happen eventually since AMD is now saying they will support RADV as the default Linux Driver
I read Mesa 25.3 should have some good RT improvement
Disabling Lumen makes it not crash anymore, guess I gotta wait for mesa updates. Maybe I'll try rebasing to testing
Actually am I even able to do testing if I'm using bazzite-dx?
So any improvements? I want to switch to bazzite so bad on my 9070 rig. Windows setup for a living room console is such a pain
