[Fails to Launch] Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments
Distro: Gentoo Linux
Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma 6.2.5 (Wayland)
CPU: Ryzen 3700X @ 4.98 GHz
RAM: 32GBs @ 3600 MHz
GPU: AMD RX 7800 XT
Mesa Version: 25.0.1
Proton Version: 9.0 (Valve) & 9.21-GE (Neither work)
UMU: On (Enabling the separate Steam Runtime option, in conjunction with UMU, changes nothing)
Gamescope Version: 3.16.2
Proton Log: https://bpa.st/raw/EEXQ
-----
Launching the GOG version of the game immediately fails for some reason regardless of which version of Proton is used. Vanilla Wine gets farther than that (to the main menu), but freezes on the first loading screen when starting a new save game.
That said, the GOG version is basically unplayable (although I'm not sure if there's a trick that can be done with Proton to bypass the launch issue). Setting a
native, builtin
override for Galaxy.dll
doesn't seem to fix it either.
It's weird that this game would have trouble though given that the Steam version, according to ProtonDB, works fine.3 Replies
