generation starts to slow significantly after some time
when generating chunks, chick generation for me goes from taking about 2.5 seconds to over 10. cpu usage also drops proportionally. images in the thread

this is on a world a few minutes after initial chunk loading

and after some time, it climbs to take closer to 10k ms and cpu usage lowers

this seems to be temporarily fixed after restarting the game
for reference heres the cpu usage graph

anyway im leaving it on overnight to stability test my pc (dh is really good for this) and if its still working ill send what the time is
the bug seems to be sorta 50/50 though so we'll see
rejoined the game and now its even better somehow

idk anymore
its confusing
doesnt make sense
didnt take too long, i think you get the point

I've noticed this sometimes in the past, but much more so with chunky than DH.
Sometimes it likes to use more or less RAM too
im not using chunky, i should mention
Didn't think you were. From my experience, DH is fine to run with Chunky installed, but I find chunky can't run with DH installed (it generates the LODs still or likes to hog threads maybe)
If the chunks were already loaded, I think they'll gen faster than the ones farther out that haven't been... or did you test on a fresh world?
this was after already generated chunks loaded
and it was visibly generating them
And if you save and quit the game, it'll process the already-done LODs when rejoining first (faster) then once it catches up to the edge of where it's gotten to and then start genning that (slower)
I think you probably understand that already though, but thougt I'd mention it just in case ^
yeah
all these measurements are from after its fully loaded and rendered everything
Ah, so like the LOD loading speed?
Not the generation?
no im on about generation
like, generating chunks from the seed, not the disk
Does the ETA stay (relatively) constistant once it's going for a bit?
I know some chunks (mountain) will be harder to load than others too (ocean), but it shouldn't be 3-4x
no
it increases over time
What about your memory?
Also increases?
its stable under 16gb
Dang, I was thinking could be a memory leak with some mod... but if it's stable under 16GB, hmm
generation speed and cpu usage just drop
And you're on I Paid For The Whole CPU?
well DH did have a memory leak once before, and i caught it using 88GB of ram before i stopped it, though its unrelated to this bug and patched now
yes
You could try installing spark and doing a memory heap dump just to make there's no others
nah memory usage is fine now
I had Lithium cause one for chunky for me in 1.20 I think
What CPU do you have?
9950x
7950X 7950X3D 9950X or 9950X3D?
I see
an 64gb ram
So no 3D cores to interfer.. there goes that idea
Sometimes there's a BIOS setting where it'll only use half for games
its a DH thing for certain, my system overperforms by quite a lot
theres a setting to disable SMT and 1 CCD but you can see in the btop screenshotthat 32 threads are enabled and in use, so thats not the case
Send your full mod list if you could
If you don't have c2me, maybe try installing it to see if it fixes the usage? Same with Noisium
im not at my pc at the moment but i will farly soon
thats a thought
theyre mostly just vanilla+ mods, eg lithium, sodium, tweakeroo, starlight etc
Same

You could try a basic profile with 4 mods (DH, sodium, c2me, noisium), see if that's any better. If so, then it's probably one of the mods slowing everything down...
i mean there are no known incompatibilities in there
at least to my knowledge
i could
maybe
Yeah, but there could be bug incompatibilities, you never know
