DH chunks randomly missing
Yes, I've seen the copypasta about overdraw. I don't think it's that because it's not at the border of vanilla chunks and LOD chunks , it's only in the LOD chunks. Attached is a screenshot with no shaders and showing what the LOD chunks are loading like. The vanilla rendering distance is set before the ocean (which is much further than it looks in the screenshot,, the downward slope causes a bit of an illusion to make it look closer). And the chunks that aren't showing in LOD are ones that I visted before.

do you have distant generation turned on? because that doesn't look like 256 chunks of radius

is this on a server? and have you used chunky to pregenerate an area?
no it's integrated server (singleplayer) and dont know what chunky is
i have not done anything out of the ordinary with world generation
right, and what happens when you make dh reload the LODs by tweaking the lod render distance or toggling dh rendering on/off?
its the same pattern that doesnt load
interesting, do you know roughly how far away the missing stuff is?
could try setting the dh distance to roughly it, and then letting the game sit capped at 10fps on i paid for the whole cpu and then see if there's still holes when it finishes
also what dh version is this?
im on 2.3.2 now but the same thing happened on 2.0.2 when I last tried DH
right, try that thing I mentioned
i changed the vanilla render distance to 2 chunks and changed DH distance too and it looks the same pattern

i think its about 32 chunks away and further is where it starts being weird
nono, the idea was to set the dh distance to where the holes are, and letting it work at max speed to see if it will eventually correct itself
actually i guess its not 32 its more like 48
well now its like not loading anything so imma restart
see if you can snipe it and then let it work hogging all of your cpu and check if it fixed the holes when your cpu goes quiet again
no it seems like it always doesnt load that same pattern
i put it on i paid for the whole cpu and set the distance lower to about where theres starting problems and it still has them

is your cpu quiet or at near 100% usage?
i mean im at 60 fps still
so? my game can also keep up at 60fps with i paid for the whole cpu
go check it
u mean like on some system monitor
yeah
task manager, anything
well still the chunks didnt load (ive never seen them load) and its at 5% cpu usage
right, just to make sure, increase the distance just a bit more
i increased it to 256 now and same thing still
and cpu still at 5% usage

do you have distant generation turned on? because that doesn't look like 256 chunks of radius
i turned it off here but it doesnt help i had it on earlier
well turn it on, if it's off it's not gonna work on anything outside the vanilla render distance
oh wait
so you had it on, with the distance high, and it still wasn't doing anything
i mean ill try it again i need to restart again tho its not doing anything again
would it be bad to delete all the lod data and let it redo everything all over again?
its looking promising actually now for some reason hang on its taking a while to load it all
let it cook
is this near spawn on your world? if so you could get the world seed and try to get people to replicate the issue
I can't do it because im not at home and all i have is my useless sandy bridge laptop
yeah its near the spawn but actually i think its working now, i dont know why it didnt before but maybe the distant generation was the problem
i thought i had it on before
because it was on by default
hmmm, right, let it sit for a while generating more distance
does distant generation actually make those chunks load ?
preferably beyond that savannah
or generate i mean
yes, distant generation is required for dh to work on anything beyond the vanilla distance
and thus requires serverside support
and if it loads everything correctly, and you can confirm you just forgot to turn distant generation on, mark this thread as solved
ok i thought it might be able to figure out what it should look like from the seed, if it was an unvisited chunk
dont forget go turn the cpu load preset down after you're done testing
is this like distant horizon skybox like cached between game loads or does it have to regenerate every time
why
because it will hog 100% of your cpu
right now its only at 40%
what's the cpu load preset?
5
i paid for the hwhole CPU and extreme quality
are you sure you're looking at the correct thing? because i paid for the whole cpu will use quite literally 100% of the cpu
also the quality won't do anything here, turn it down
i mean how many options are called i paid for the whole cpu
wdym
by the right thing, i mean the thing you're getting that 40% usage
it just determines the display quality of the lods, nothing about whether they'll generate or not
ok well it varies a lot, its been going up as this has been running
now it says 811% cpu usage
how many threads you got?
16 hardware threads
yeah 800% is just half of the cpu then
this is all so weird

its still not 256 chunks idk if its supposed to be able to get there by now
yeah it definitely didn't finish loading
its got to mayeb 100 chunks out
but it clearly generated over those holes so that's good
does it normally take this long
yes
ok
especially when your cpu is not getting properly utilized
but hey no holes on the lod
can you mark it as solved as the bot says?
also can you check the cpu usage on task manager specifically? because the thing your using could ve summing up 100% usage for each core and not each thread
task manager will just show 100% for the entire cpu
i dont have task manager
i thought it did
yes it did i didn't see it
it said it here
so you're not on windows?
no
am on linux
right, so you checked the cpu usage on
top
?
check btop, def my favorite one/slowgen
World generation in general is quite slow, if you want to speed it up:
Install Noisium, Lithium and C2ME(DH 2.3.0+). These mods can improve generation speed by a bit, but it will still not be fast.
Increase
CPU Load
in Distant Horizons settings for faster generation, but you will experience more lag spikes and stuttering due to heavier workload on CPU.
To see if Distant Generator
is really working or not:
1) Check CPU usage while in-game, using Aggressive
settings of CPU Load
. If CPU usage's hovering around 80-100%, the LoDs are generating in the background.
2) Go to DH settings > Advanced Options > Debug > Wireframe
, set Enable Debug Wireframe Rendering
and Show World Gen Queue
to True
.
Enabling both settings will show you the visualization of world gen tasks queued and working on the map (blue boxes for queued tasks, red boxes for working tasks)You can do the second part to see the progress in real time
