Storage template migration crashed server; all photo directory gone.
Hello.
I set up a storage template and began the Storage Template Migration job. My server crashed due to an I/O error. Upon restarting the server, the directory containing the photo files is completely gone.
Is this a known issue? I can't seem to find discussion on it anywhere online.

Successfully submitted, a tag has been added to inform contributors. :white_check_mark:Hi, this is not a known issue and generally (very difficult?) to be due to a bug in immich alone. However certainly concerning. I suspect you have a failing storage drive
Can you post some details about your storage setup and all mounts/folders?
Hi @Zeus!
I have all my media on an external drive under
/mnt/Storage/Media
. For example, all photos are under /mnt/Storage/Media/Photos
, all music is under /mnt/Storage/Media/Music
, etc.
Interestingly, it looks like all directories under /mnt/Storage/Media/*/
are missing. To clarify, /mnt/Storage/Media/Photos
and /mnt/Storage/Media/Music
both exist but are now empty.
However, I unplugged the external drive from my server and connected it to another computer, and my files appear to be fine. All my photos are once again appearing under /mnt/Storage/Media/Photos/
, all my music files are once again appearing under /mnt/Storage/Media/Music/
. The issue only appears to be affecting the server.Definitely looks like your disk is dying or something else like that
I doubt the music folder is even mounted to immich (I hope) so it’s impossible for immich to have touched it
What type of drives are you using? How do they mount to the VM and how do they mount to Immich?
