getting large performance losses on bazzite compared to windows
I've finally gotten around to getting a proper ext4 drive so i can start testing games, and (even in lower settings than windows) i'm getting 30-50 less FPS in bazzite in Red Dead Redemption 2 compared to my game on windows (60-70 fps with all settings low except texture quality at ultra in bazzite, 90-110 at a mix of high and ultra in windows)
The only real difference between the two is my linux version is currently on a NVMe SSD that's in an enclosure thats plugged in over USB 3.0, but i dont feel like it should be affecting it in FPS, let alone THIS MUCH
I'm running KDE bazzite-nvidia-open, i have a 3060 ti, i5-12400f, 32GB of DDR4

Update, it looks like it's running fine now after updating to bazzite 42, i'm now getting a stable 120~ fps under bazzite which is faster as Kyle said

unsure if it's similar in other games yet
try using vulkan
it is expected that nvidia card have performance loss of upto 30% in dx12 title
it was set to vulkan
maybe it was affecting vulkan too
anyway if you compare dx11 games then it should have similar performance
RDR should be slightly faster than under windows
Something is up here
Found something
nvidia-powerd is closing

20:09 was right as it booted
i'm on a 3060 TI
here's my fastfetch

wait am i on bazzite 41 still??

ujust update

in the meanwhile if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate themstill doing it in bazzite 42 ðŸ˜

turns out this might be irrelevant since i'm not on a laptop
gonna revert the post back to its original topic since what i thought the issue was is apparently irrelevent

even under stress it even looks like its underutilizing, its not maxxing out my cpu or gpu
under windows red dead would absolutely max my cpu from start to finish so this is a great change of pace
maxxing out the settings gets us to 100% gpu util though and it does look like better performance than windows too
i'm honestly really pleased with bazzite as a whole
i'll close the thread now
