Oblivion Remastered completely freezes computer--worked before updating Bazzite?
I have been playing Oblivion Remastered the past two days and loving it. Today I tried to start it up, and the game completely locks up my computer to the point I need a cold reset. Aside from updating Bazzite (and Oblivion's recent updates), I have not changed or altered anything. Able to access the main menu, go to load up my file, but on the loading screen it very quickly freezes up (audio crackling too).
I rebased Bazzite to a prior version and then a subsequent prior version but the freeze happens exactly the same way. I also tried to run Expedition 33 and it also causes the same freezing, but don't know if that game ran before now anyways. Overwatch runs fine. Haven't tried a lot of other games but will keep experimenting.
This might not even be a Bazzite issue but can provide specs/data logs if any would exist for something like this to diagnose the problem or if this might be some sort of known issue I could not locate. Run a Radeon 7900 XTX.

Notably both games have Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, so could be something caused by either one of those?
i had this issue at some point, but it turned out i had a bad save that caused the game to crash not only the game itself, but gamescope. If you get a black screen, just give it like 10 minutes to see if gamescope restarts.
It's an old bethesda game under the hood, has all the bugs OG oblivion had, including this crash. My word of advice is avoid using quick save, use the full save often. If you end up running into this, you will have to go back to an older save and redo everything leading up to your most recent.
be on the look out for the unofficial oblivion patch mod, that mod, along with a few others, were known to correct some of these gamebryo engine bugs
the old version will not work, we have to wait for modders to port over to the remastered version. But yea, overall i don't think this is bazzite specific
Thanks! I booted up Windows and was able to play my save, so I'm doubting it's an issue with the save, but you're probably right in it being an Oblivion issue rather than Bazzite. Though why Expedition 33 crashes my computer I can't figure out for the life of me
The remaster is based on their old engine but with UE5 on top of it. Little messy, but it is what it is 😛
It could be a mix of where you are located when you boot the save and game instability when running through Proton. It is something you will have to deal with, especially with brand new games.
I'm playing it through xbox cloud gaming, and the game even crashes there sometimes 😂
That doesn't surprise me 😂 Expedition 33 is also breaking my computer so that doesn't surprise me. Is that true even trying different versions of Proton? I tried Experimental, GE, the hotfix.. none made a difference. Just confused since Oblivion ran the first day or so I played perfectly, then the next day I run it and my computer just freezes up completely. So bizarre
UORP has been released, and while it claims to fix bugs, it is not recommended that you install it. It has only been a week and it seems like the author of that mod has quite an ego and rushed to port the older version of the mod to the remastered version. Quite a bit of drama is unfolding as well. I personally wouldn’t trust, there is no way it has been thoroughly tested.
The official port has been built on top of existing data. Arthmoor has already said that it shouldn't be too hard to port. I'm a long time follower of his work and he's always been the target of slander in the Skyrim community because his work is integrated in so so many mods.
The original data files are exactly the same as the original Oblivion. Obviously there's gonna be bugs from the stuff sitting on top of it, but that's modding for ya.
im not going to start a flame war or anything but just wanted to mention that some of the criticism, no personal attacks on his character, were valid (that hardly counts as slander) Preferential tweaks are not bugfixes. Many of the changes in UORP are tweaks that are not related to bugs at all, once again following the same pattern that he was criticized for in the past. That being said, I am no linger recommending the patch, take my words with a grain of salt and respectfully do as you wish. Simply providing OP with options, comments, and thoughts.
Most of these "tweaks" are leftovers from when Quarn & Kivan owned the project
Arthmoor has done many reverses for these things.
It's just a simple fact of "he owns the mod project" but he's pretty open about changing things if something isn't a bugfix, because he's quite strict in keeping things bugfix only, which is what pretty much everyone wants. Just gotta ask nicely. It's just that a lot of people who mod their game get very angry from the slighest of things, which is so unwarranted, and I'd just ignore it. In the end its just a mod and you don't have to install it, or any mod that relies on it.
Oblivion patch project is just old, very very old. But it's better to fix the things in the current project, than to start a whole new project, having to redo every fix all over again, which I don't think they want.
