Ig the question is trying to say line charge is displaced parallel to axis of ring Otherwise the question becomes very hard (Maybe even elliptical integral, which doesn't have analytic solution)

nope i solved it in class with displacement in y dirn but i was just looking for alt approach this is harder

Okay. Well there would only be an imbalance of sin(alpha)+sin(beta) component and we would need to find alpha for a part of length r(dtheta) at an angle theta from a position Then take first order approximation Then integrate.
