Iris doesn't work for 1.21.4 Forge
Hello, I have installed Iris as Optifine would just straight up crash my game.
Good news: Iris doesn't crash my game
Bad news: It's like Iris doesn't exist in game... I have the file both in the mod folder AND the curseforge folder in their launcher. However it's not there when I launch the game.
Info: I have downloaded a 1.21.4 forge version to use, I have downloaded the 'Neoforge' version as it's the only one available for 1.21.4 that I can use for my mod pack.
CLEARLY, it's NOT working with it.
I have also used version 1.21.5 AND 1.21.1 neoforge just to make sure it doesn't work.
Is there something I'm missing? I tried to also add sodium but this issue persisted, (from what I gathered it wouldn't have changed anything as sodium is already included with Iris.)

Sodium is not included with iris
Solution
Forge has never and will never be supported. Use neoforge or fabric
Must've been dreaming because I could've sworn I made a modpack that worked just fine with iris.
Is there another shader mod I can use that works for forge?
No
Not in 1.21.4 at least
-# Not necessarily “has never,” there were the alphas that existed for a couple months and never escaped this discord server
must've been the wind-
Is there anything for earlier versions that works?
Oculus is an unofficial port of Iris to Forge for 1.16.5-1.20.1
And requires Embeddium, the unofficial Forge port of Sodium
Forget about OptiFine?
Yes yes I did lmao
I mean, not that it’s good—it’s quite buggy on modern versions
But I doubt there are any mods besides OptiFine exclusive to Forge, so I would just recommend switching to NeoForge
I have never really used optifine not because I haven't installed it but because it never works
it's very volatile so I try to avoid it, I'll try Oculus though
ok just tried it, there wasn't a version for either one so I tried with 1.20.1 didn't work
I guess I could try neoforge
Oculus for 1.20.1 didn't work for you?
Negative, I am in version 1.21.4
Right. Oculus for 1.20.1 is for Minecraft 1.20.1
specifically using Forge, not Neoforge nor Fabric. On 1.20.1
For 1.21.x your options are realistically NeoForge and Fabric for shaders. The forge project isn't widely adopted nor supported.
Yeah I came to that conclusion as well, however some of the mods I have and wanted to use are not on either but curseforge so I guess I'll just have to deal with no shaders for now- Maybe I'll make a modpack for earlier versions and then hopefully that will work- However that's not anytime soon
Thank you for the help and time ladz
Curseforge isn't a loader, it's a distribution platform.
You select the mod loader when making a modpack (CurseForge names it “Game Type”). By default it selects Forge for some stupid reason but I have yet to see a mod besides OptiFine support Forge and not support NeoForge
Shame it's completely horrid and doesn't work with 90% of the mods on forge 😭
The majority (>95%) of mods on 1.21.x are available for Neoforge, not exclusive to Forge. The problem is you selected FORGE instead of NEOFORGE, so Curse is only showing you Forge flagged releases
A lot of developers do cross-loader support, so as Slooshie said, most the mods that support Forge actually are Neoforge mods as well.
If you made a new pack and were careful in making sure to select Neoforge, I'm sure you'd find you could easily make the switch to Neoforge without losing a single mod.
I don't quite like the tone your writing that in could just be me thinking on a different level but if I knew at the start that I did not have a chance in adding a shader to my pack- I would not have tried adding a shader to my pack and I wouldn't be here in the first place.
I have realised what I did wrong and now I know what I can do in order to have shaders and I know I have to do a different pack for me to have shaders. Thank you
