okay you probably have some combination of 1. cheap thrift 2. medium thrift and 3. expensive thrift cheap thrift i'd say is goodwill and then like where you can find stuff for <$10 very reliable for wacky pieces and fun finds, but better if you're young and have more time than money

I don't mind stuff around $30, but I want lots of options. I've done multiple trips where not a single thing fits and I get discouraged

medium thrift i'd consider places like buffalo exchange ya more so in your price range curated thrift with better selection, usually you'd find secondhand uniqlo, jcrew, doc martens, etc here a lot of big cities have a handful of these places, and they're sort of iykyk type spots if they're not a large company like Buffalo with lots of locations and then expensive thrift i'd consider designer consignment 2nd st is the big one with lots of locations in the us, and phoenix probably has a handful of these plus pricier vintage dealers you can look for deals at

What are some other options in this range if you don't mind me asking? So I can hit several at once

that's gonna happen, you just gotta make peace with it. thrifting is about the grind, if you don't like digging through racks for good pieces then you're better off spending a little bit more money for brand new items

Thanks for typing all of this out, I really appreciate it

if you don't know what's in your area, go online ebay, depop, poshmark, grailed even lots lots lots of good deals to be found if you 1. know your measurements and 2. know what to look for

Yeah that's where I struggle the most... Don't really know what to look for / what my style is I'm super new to this stuff and I'm horrible at it lol Idk where to start I'm just sick of looking like a bum
Sal
Sal6mo ago
that's okay! hitting the goodwills might be a good exercise for you just to be able to try a bunch of stuff on and see what you like style-wise, you don't even have to purchase anything I understand this feeling, and if you can do a little bit of introspection and identify what you're looking to change this server can be a huge help

Like this Substack post 👆 Sucks to hear but like a lot of things, getting better at thrifting takes time and experience. Measure, try lots of stuff on, and keep notes of stores you go to and what the selection is like At least that was my experience

It's true, it's a skill that takes practice

only other thing i'll add is there's always going to be an element of luck associated with thrifting sometimes you find a rich person offloaded all their designer clothes and sometimes you find things from shein like sal said, you don't have to buy anything - whatever deal on price you think you're getting means nothing if you aren't wearing it

Thanks so much for all the help guys, went thrifting today and found lots of shorts. I'm really struggling to find t shirts that fit me though. Not sure how to find a brand that works well I've tried almost everything

there's a lot of brands, and a lot of people have had that same thought browse or search in #questions-and-advice and you'll likely see several threads with recommendations (also this https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1229098846718660749). if you're still stumped make another thread with your specific needs (thickness, color, material) and budget 👍
