Can't run KH3 (Epic Games version) on Steam Deck... running into 'fatal error'
I downloaded Kingdom Hearts 3 on my Steam Deck through Heroic Launcher. Every time I try to boot up the game, whether it's through game mode or Desktop mode, the screen turns black and I get an error window that just says "Fatal Error"....
Can anyone help me get this game running? It's the official version through the Epic Games store.

“Fatal error” is not a Linux or Heroic issue.
I would suggest switching to GE-proton-latest, enabling umu and deleting the prefix folder though

When you say deleting the prefix folder, do you mean the wine prefix folder?
I updated to the latest GE-Proton and it atleast boots up the game now, but freezes at a black screen after showing the copyright logos (Disney, Square-Enix, etc)
I also don't know what umu is... but will try to figure it out
I see that "Disable UMU" is not checked, so i'm going to assume that means it's enabled by default
So the prefix folder was required as the gaem is not able to launch at all now... do I run it from an alternate .exe?
Idk if this matters but the game is downloaded to my microsd card

It actually is disabled by default, the checkbox is just wrong. Check & un-check it to enable umu
The prefix folder is re-created automatically on game launch

The problem is when I erase the prefix setting, the game won't launch at all.

Don't erase the value set in Heroic, delete the actual folder on your drive

I don't want to delete anything important, you mean the folder named "Prefixes" that was in the win directory?
It has a bunch of files in it so just want to make sure...

that's a video playback issue, but I thought that this particular issue was fixed a while back. you'll need to install the mf codecs

It's all good.... I just bought it on Steam lmfao. I had money in my Steam wallet anyways - i'd rather just not deal with this anymore 😆 But I truly appreciate everyone's help. Thank you!
