How to match a dress for a wedding?
Hey All,
I'm dating for the first time ever, and I'm supposed to be matching my girlfriend, or at the very least not clashing, my girlfriend for a wedding we're going to. I've never been good at colors and stuff, so this is hard. She's wearing a navy dress, at first I thought my black suit would be safe, but I was told that actually black and navy do not go well together.
Unfortunately my flight is next week so I don't have a lot of time to order a suit if need be, buying clothes especially suits that fit me is hard too, I'm pretty skinny. Is gray a safe bet, it's not a bright gray suit so maybe that helps? Are there any tie recommendations?

Help please? If Gray is safe, what color shirt and any tie recommendations? Maybe one that matches the floral?

yes gray is safe, and don’t wear a black suit to a wedding
possibly look into a rental suit if you are really concerned, but i wouldn’t worry too much

Suit and shirt are fine. Maybe easiest choice here is a purple tie that matches the flowers in her dress.

I'm not one for skinny ties but I've never actually tried them
I think they'll fit your shape nicely just judging by the pants.
Others can speak for suits tho. I've never worn a suit, FYI.
I like the pattern but skinny ties usually don't look good
you can find a lot of similar floral ties on eBay or at the thrift store
silk ties are in abundance at the thrift and can be grabbed for about 2$ each

@emilio black suits generally give funeral vibes in (at least) the US/Canada/Britain/Australia
dont think ive ever been to a Canadian wedding where there weren't a lot of black suits 🤷♂️
guess it depends on how traditionally inclined the wedding is but its never been a problem in my experience
most of the times it’s not an issue, but when it is an issue it’s a big issue, if that makes sense
