Ratos configurator 502 gateway error

When I go to configure my vcore 4 502 gateway error appears instead of the configuration screen. These errors appear in the notifaction menu. The install of Ratos is fresh and everything is up to date according to the update manager.

Try ssh-ing in and running ratos doctor sounds like your updating may have gone awry

I've done that it says command not recognized

then you aren't actually on the latest version
TheTik

or they borked the update, right? If yo uare sure you're on ratos 2.1, try this:
cd ~/ratos-configurator
git fetch
git switch -f v2.1.x-deployment
ratos doctor
cd ~/ratos-configurator
git fetch
git switch -f v2.1.x-deployment
ratos doctor

sending git switch ~f v2.x.x-deployment responds with fatal: only one reference expected

its supposed to be - it was combined did you mean to type the tilda (~) instead of a dash (-)?
Grape

Ok, same issues here as @Grape Klipper error screen and 505 gateway error on configurator. VC4 Machine was powered on last night for the first time. Did all the software updates, including a hard fix for ratos configurator which showed as invalid (image posted). The hard reset fixed it. Did all the updates as directed, rebooted and main screen, configuration screen were fine. Same Mainsail error configurator notifications mentioned above (image posted) but it seemed to be running ok. I dismissed them. Stupid, right? I even fed filament in thru the smart sensor and the hot end suddenly turned on to preheat / load!
Did an orderly shutdown from Klipper and powered off the machine for the night. Tonight, I powered it back up and got the Klipper error screen. And while I can see many of the RatOS Mainsail screens, I get bad gateway on Configurator. It was ok last night. I ran @TheTik 's commands above. (results posted in image) "ratos doctor" gives an error. I'd hate to think I need to reflash an image on the SD card because something got borked...because I have a feeling it could get borked again for the same reason. Help?

you did a hard recovery?
ArgueForSport
ArgueForSport•4d ago
For the configurator, yes I tried the soft one first, but it did not work. So I did the hard recovery BTW, was it right to add on to this posting, since it was essentially the same error, or should I have created a new post?

the soft and hard recoveries can break things. Things that the ratos doctor command is supposed to be able to fix. There has been a handful of people that break that command even and I haven't figured out how, nor what to do at that point other than reflash the sd card and start over If you go that route, try this:
1. Flash image
2. Connect to hotspot
3. Setup wifi through configurator (and let it reboot)
4. Go to /config
5. Refresh update manager
6. at this point nothing should be invalid, all green. IF THAT'S NOT THE CASE stop here and post your moonraker.log
7. Update only the RatOS package(NOT configurator).
8. Update RatOS configurator (this takes awhile, if the mainsail output of the update process hangs, let it sit for 10 minutes and then refresh the page, Ctrl+Shift+R)
9. Restart moonraker service (click power icon in the top right of mainsail, click the refresh button next to moonraker under "service controls")
10. Reload mainsail (Ctrol+Shift+R)
11. Refresh update manager
12. "RatOS" should be gone from the list. Everything should be green and have several updates except RatOS configurator (ignore the klipper errors). If it's not, stop here and post your moonraker.log.
13. Click update all.
14. Done.

I will do that. I had to use an external wifi adapter and will need to see if i need to completely redo that again after flashing a new image.

wonder if that helped break the doctor. No idea :/

I don't really know. Klipper is hard sometimes I hope it's just that, because I won't want to do this over again and again! thank you

thanks. I will follow my own directions to set up external wifi. Since my machine is already built, with hub hat, everything plugged in, it's sort of really annoying to pull the Pi to bring it from the shop to my office to get Wifi signal.

TheTik•4d ago
ew, yeah. Mine is just a few rooms down from the router and still have to rotate the machine to have the electronics cabinet point towards it to get consistent signal

I posted that thing a month or so ago, which is great, as long as you have a way to initially connect. And I don't presently have a 100' Ethernet cable I think I may order one right now. Will save me a bunch of grief

I've been glad to have a 100 footer. Don't use it often, but when I do it's a lifesaver

Just got it for delivery tomorrow. I got the flat kind so it won't take up so much space for the 99.999999999% of the time I'm not using it, lol have a great evening, and thank you!

I originally imaged the SD with Balena Etcher 1.19.21. Last night I remembered the Etcher version issue AFTER I imaged it, connected the 100 foot long Etherweb cable, and got external WiFi configured. 1.19.21 may have caused the RatOS configurator issue in the first place.
This git issue shows the same Mainsail errors @Grape and I both experienced. The Etcher version might have been the cause, at least in my case. https://github.com/Rat-OS/RatOS/issues/178 I thought 1.18.4 and earlier were ok. I used that version last year to install mainline Klipper on my QIDI because they had the same issues with Balena. What's versions of Etcher are known good for writing the RatOS image onto the SD?

1.18 is supposed to be good

ArgueForSport•3d ago
merci beacoup I'm gonna redo it with 1.18 because I don't really know if Rufus did it right That would be a me problem, not a Rufus problem, lol
TheTik
TheTik•3d ago
Make sure not to change user/pass if you're going to use Rufus, ratos is expecting the defaults
ArgueForSport
ArgueForSport•2d ago
I used Rufus and did not change any passwords, but I don't trust that I did everything correctly. It has too many options, to be honest, and more opportunities to mess up if you don't use it all the time. Going to reflash the SD with Balena 1.18. Simple. Works for me . Wish more thought had been given to where the Pi sits. in my case, I have to remove the right side panel of the eBox to remove/replace the SD card. Not super convenient. Thanks a million. The big piece that makes everything work is your sequence above from 5-13. And not to go into the Configurator at all until that sequence is completed. It would be great if this were documented somewhere (besides here of course!). Was able to successfully get through the configuration. The only difference I had was instead of step 2, because the Pi can't receive WiFi in my shop, I had to replace step #2 with these 2 steps: 2A. 100 foot Ethernet cable for initial connection to the Pi 2B. Connect external Wifi adapter - add "dtoverlay=disable-wifi" to the /boot/config.txt in the {ALL} section, then sudo reboot.

TheTik•2d ago
That's good info and will add that alternate to my notes
ArgueForSport
ArgueForSport•2d ago
If I wasn't clear, the code in section 2B above disables the Pi's internal Wi-Fi. This allows an external USB Wi-Fi adapter to be recognized and used. Otherwise it will always try to use the built-in weak Pi Wi-Fi and won't even try to look for any other potential Wi-Fi sources
