Comedy & Irony in Clothing - Topic of the day 5/17/25
Where does comedic value, for yourself or others, fall in your wardrobe & outfit decisions? Is irony crucial to your style? Is there a clear line for transgressive use of humor in clothing? What do you admire or dislike about this tricky topic?

I dont really have anything “funny” in my wardrobe but i dont really mind it!
It helps if the thing kinda looks cool too
I think caps and graphic tees are kinda the ideal spot for it
Sometimes i think about getting a bunch of ivy league sweaters to get paint all over at work as a little joke to myself
I think my lot lizard hat is my only funny type item in my wardrobe but i also think its just a really nice hat

I think use of comedy and irony is great in a wardrobe, fashion should be fun and lighthearted and adding funny elements is great imo
There is certainly a line though where i think overdoing will detract from an outfit
I have come across some ppl who i thought leaned on it so hard that they were just making up for a lack of actual style
That sounds very hatery of me but
Some things are cool because of the irony
Vet did this
Some people’s whole shtick is wearing ironic tee shirts and at that point it becomes less fun
Honestly always wearing the same ironic clothes over and over again is not really fun for me because it’s like repeating the same joke
But a well timed ironic shirt is nice, especially if it goes with the outfit
Vintage tees are cool for this
i would get the vetements hentai shirt if it did not cost $470 on sale
:caught:
Best kind of ironic tees imo are not the ones that are made up to be a joke but the ones that have cultural context that happened organically
For example the dominos Rolex
Or t shirt merch of an event that happened that makes you think “wtf they did this back then”
Like if you had a 1979 west high school tobacco bowl
I’m not funny enough for the funny clothes :nooooo:
fashion is no place for jokes.
I don't know if comedy, irony or whimsy is the right word but appropriate to the situation I like to communicate I am not a serious human being with my fits without tipping over into 🤡 territory. I may only be communicating it to myself. It's not intended as self deprecating just an accurate reflection of my self image.
the goat, also enjoy the irony/comedy in some of the vete, doublet, and a lot of the chopova stuff

I love funny clothes
Most recent one I got

mm6 also very good at some silly shirts
For the low price of $2k this could be you

Love a good bit of levity in clothing. Wearing clothes should be fun and slogans/graphics are a way of doing it. Heres a couple of my fave tees.

I’m so into a stupid fucking purse lately
Going to get into a stupid fucking shoe also
I like the idea of a stupid accessory on an otherwise fairly pleasant outfit
i feel like as long as the irony or comedy isn't rooted in harm or prejudice against others i'm cool with it (ie no i will not appreciate a maga hat worn ironically)
otherwise i am team levity in no small part as a way to deal with the rigors of living in society presently
this just reminds me i need to commit to my silly fishy food chain bag idea before the price of don fisher increases exponentially
doublet does so many great satirical takes
doublets kpop jacket living rent free in my head
College tee (mine is a different color tho)

i wear a shirt like this and all the sudden people dont want to be seen with me in public
drop the shirt dude
I’ll echo what @Weeg said—I’m a huge fan of dumb shirts and hats, from defunct strip club merch to dumb designer stuff. I think part of it stems from spending a lot of time with folks that wear/wore similar shit when I was a teen, but I gotta admit there’s a certain charm to em
