gpu usage spiking alot and really bad and unstable perfomance even without shaders on decent system

also gameplay is even unstable and bad without even shaders at 100 lods or even 20
probably cpu usage spikes alot too
The LODs doesn't seem like it had enough time to generate. Are you flying around in the world? Any settings changed?

Q: There are holes at the edge of vanilla Render Distance, especially during movement
A: This is caused by either vanilla terrain not loading in fast enough, or shader's incorrect overdraw prevention implementation or configuration (if you use one)
Some world gen speed improvement can be found when adding these three mods, but the affect will be minor:
- Noisium
- Faster Random
- C2ME (DH 2.3.0+)
The easiest fix is to move slower and/or ignore it. This hole is most visible while moving over not generated (by vanilla) terrain. Moving over that terrain every subsequent time may not create the hole. And moving slower will give MC more time to load the chunks as you go.
If none of that helped, you can also tune the overdraw prevention, look at the third section to know how.
Q: There are low quality full blocks behind and around non-full block, e.g. fences or ladders
A: This is intended behavior, to prevent holes in the world while you move, DH will overlap with some part of the vanilla terrain.
How much of the terrain is covered is determined by the overdraw prevention:
1.0 will mean DH LODs start where vanilla chunks end.
0.1 will mean that DH render very close to the players position.
0.0 sets it on auto mode.
To fix this, you can either:
Increase your vanilla RD, which will move the DH LODs further from you.
Tune the Overdraw Prevention setting, see the next section to know how.
Q: Where do I edit the overdraw prevention setting?
A: Overdraw prevention setting can be edited inside the DH config under:
Advanced > Graphics > Culling
BUT: if you use shaders, they will influence overdraw prevention. The effectiveness of overdraw prevention depends on the shaderโs internal settings, which may or may not be adjustable. However, the shaderโs overdraw prevention will always operate within the limits set by DHโs overdraw prevention. To avoid conflicts, ensure that DHโs overdraw prevention is not set too high.

There are also some mods that make the overdraw problems worse when missconfigured:
- Farsight,
- NVIDIUM,
- Bobby,
- Better FPS - Render Distance,
- Embeddium (I've heard it implemented Better FPS - RD rendering, but haven't confirmed it)
For the first 3 make sure their RD matches your vanilla RD and is equal or lower then the server RD if playin on a server
For the last 2 see FAQdude like my laptop aint that bad that it cant even handle distant horizon at 100 lods without shaders

even going to really low
even if i have distant horizon installed but turned off i still get stutters and really bad perfomance

You can't turn DH off in settings
You can only hide it with it still being active in the background and/or slow it down so that it has low to no impact

If you're going to fly around, probably increase the CPU load preset or lower it, whichever fits better.

Because when you fly around, Distant Horizons creates update queues for all the terrain you traversed. If the LOD updater couldn't keep up, things starts falling apart. The queue system does not support freeing up old update requests in the queue.
That is from my observation back when you could change the thread allocators per task instead of all being grouped into a single option.

normally when i play minecraft with shaders i have constant gpu usage of 90%+
but on using dh i have alot of spikes
even gpu usage going below 50%
Minecraft world gen is quite slow, to be fair.
ive been going around this place for few mins now ๐ญ

I guess your only option for smooth gameplay is to pre-generate the world for a set distance, say 256 chunks, then fly around with a lower distance of 128.
and thing is im not even moving just staying in one place

If yes, then you effectively slowed down world generation even further.
