Curious if anyone has added a redundant gps with esp32. I have one gps antenna connected to the AIS transponder and vhf but was thinking it might be good to install a wireless one and have it send the NMEA data to Signalk as a second source

For redundancy i would go for wired
GPS pucks are so cheap!
why make it so hard?
I think better to spend time and money on AIS transmitter.
which will also give you another GOPS source
with aliexpress so cheap for one that connects straight to raspberry pi pins seems little point, get a few spares with the order > https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006787427660.html
Not all gps antennas and modules are the same. I’ve been researching which constellations the common modules use and what’s new regarding the speed of connection and the number of satellites on cold and hot boot. Also which antennas are omni vs single direction, etc
Mine never gets turned off so all the gps data, satellite numbers etc get recorded to influxdb, after years of looking a $2.80 Aliexpress spits out just as good data as the aging retired Garmin. From the perspective of sailing a boat, indistinguishable.
you started with redundant and second source but if we go beyond one more gps source what are you looking for and looking at?
