@TheTik @blacksmithforlife πΊπΈ thx for the help ! got the new stepper drivers today , plugged one in saw no noticable increase in temp of the octopus , switched on the 24v , all good . put in all the drivers and said a hail mary , switched it all on again , all good ! octopus sitting at a nice 25 degrees and everything working nice !

no btt tmc2209 v1.2 steppers in the list
am i ok to use the btt tmc2209 v1.3 ?
yes

im not sure its working though
i notice the octopus was sitting at 174 degrees
i removed the stepper drivers
and it was sitting at 35
im scared i fucked something up now
thats quite hot. did you remove jumpers under the drivers as instructed?
ye
Verified you're supplying 24V?
yip
Maybe try disconnecting as much as you can, only plug in one motor at a time, see if you can get it to connect or at least not get hot
at idle my octopus is at 25. If it actually reached 174 stuff would be melted so I'm wondering if there is an issue with a thermistor
The chips on the octopus can't go over 80C iirc so if it still boots then I wouldn't trust that 174
thing is its showing correct now
reading room temp?
30
ok i checked everything connected and it all seems to be working ok
hotend
bed
fans
temp sense
x y stops
probe
its all working like expect
im really scared to plug in the drivers again
i double checked everything
jumpers are correct
try them one at a time maybe
DON"T plug or unplug them with power on tho
ye booting now with 1 driver installed
but how to test though
see if you get that IFCNT error, and if not do the stepper_buzz command

temp is rising

that's strange

@blacksmithforlife πΊπΈ Any idea what could cause the Octopus itself to raise in temp? I haven't seen that before
no idea - that is weird
ok
so i did not put the 24v volt to the board before
i just did
and when i do that all the outputs go on
hot end heating at max rate
oh, you have to have the 24V on. Read the klipper docs link I shared and step one is "make sure that the motor power is enabled"
bed heating at max rate
like all the green leds at the heater ports light up
thats starting to sound like the octopus itself is bad. Whether it was already bad or something with the drivers broke I dunno.
If it is turning everything on when you connect power, sounds like your board might be broken
it doesnt do that when the drivers are not in
so the reason i bought a new board is that i did a short circuit on the old one
do u think the drivers got fucked by that ?
the tmc2209s?
are they the same drivers from the board you shorted?
ye
then possibly
fuck
when you short a board, all bets are off on components
this new board works fine without the stepper drivers installed
but it goes haywire when they are
so i guess i need drivers
but now im thinking did i fuck this new board with these fucked drivers ???
If no drivers but 24V applied, does the temp climb?
no
it works fine then
i can control the hotend, bed etc
fans work like they supposed to
probe works
x and y endstops work
Then I'd order a couple new drivers and see if they'll work in the new octopus
i have an arduino and breadboard do u think i can check the drivers with that ?>
Probably, but I have no idea what would be involved. Google for a setup maybe. But you'd want some proection components/circuits to prevent blowing up the arduino too. Rapidly getting out of my ability to help in that direction π
well i guess i will order some drivers and hope my board isnt fucked
Bonne chance!
i do think its ok since it works , just not with drivers installed
Agreed, that suggests to me that its the drivers not the board
drivers could have busted the octopus in the drivers section, but drivers are cheaper than a new octopus so still worth the try
ye
i will try only one driver though when i get the new drivers
if its fucked again
for sure
i will need new octopus again im afraid
Learning process
could the problem have been cause by not making a fresh install on the raspberry pi ?
like i just booted with nothing attached to the board, no drivers in the board
and flashed it
then shut it down and connected everything
no
