Server Bandwidth Calculations/Usage for Newer Updates
Hey, can any hosting provider here give me numbers?
I want to know what the average player count and their bandwidth usage per server
I want to design a system to my network specs and make sure I can actually handle it, with 1.20 and newish updates it seems like the figure changed a lot and not sure what to expect. The area is starved of actual cloud services and the max bandwidth is around 80mbps. I'm generally wondering how many servers bandwidth-wise I could handle with that, if there's an average player count (I'm assuming 4 for now).
My current calculation is:
2mbps peak/12hrs (surely no one plays more than 12hrs daily) is probably 1mbps daily average.
Multiplying that I'm thinking around 20? If the average is 4 players for example = 1mbps * 20 * 4 = 80mbps or at most 160mbps.
But I don't think 160mbps is reasonable, doubt ALL players will be generating & loading tons of chunks at the same time.

just use a hosting provider with 1gbit or 10gbit
you should be fine
i have customers with 250+ players online and they are running just fine on a 1gbit connection
I want to setup something local, I could easily grab something from frankfurt but that's not my goal.
cant you just get 1gbit from your isp?
its pretty cheap these days
Unfortuantly not
Business plans barely even resembles proper business, you need DIA for specific bandwidth needs which runs in literal millions USD...
what isp are you using?

https://www.mobily.com.sa/web/en/personal/home/fiber-postpaid/fiber-postpaid
these are about the relevant ISPs here in SA, consumer pricing plans are about the exact same for business'
if you want 200mbps upload (from an unreliable host routing/peering-wise) it's like $100
ouch
why local tho?
Latency and owning hardware
Frankfurt is more than 70ms
Not bad/unplayable, but not something that would offer any advantage over just picking a more established host like bloom
I'm looking at colocation options (best option really), but the pricing will be quite heavy I think, especially for traffic. I just want to test the waters for now.
I'm really curious if I can run the 20 servers locally, maybe I can get 200mbps.
