First Sport Coat
I'm in the market for my first sport coat. Are there any recommendations for styles or patterns ? or does it really come back to personal preference ? I'm a little overwhelmed with patterns and fabrics.
Edit:
Budget - anywhere around $300 and above, willing to go up to $1000 provided the fit is perfect

it really is personal to how you want to dress, i would find pictures you like of outfits with sportscoats either online or scrolling #waywt or #inspiration then see if there's common elements, maybe certain fabrics or general colors/cuts you are drawn to. feel free to post them here if you want other peoples input on what might be a good it
budget also helpful for any recommending
fully agree with what oman said, including the need for a budget for any specific recommendations
the only other thing i'd consider at this point is warmth - tweed tends to be warm, for instance, which may be an issue in summer
Thanks for your response - I added the budget to my response.
I guess, for myself - I'm a smaller guy, I've always considered fit over the price.
However, i don't want to spend a ton of money on something I may wear every so often. I think you're probably right that I need to do a little more research on the channels you recommended.
Thanks for your response - I live in Southern California, so probably leaning towards more of a lighter material, but I can also appreciate a nice tweed sport coat since I do travel to colder climates often. It would be nice to grab a sport coat to go out for a nicer dinner instead of grabbing a casual jacket.
The thing is, I've seen a lot of things I like, but maybe not LOVE enough to make a purchase - In some ways, i'm a "if i see it, I buy it kinda shopper". However, I don't want to regret my purchase, since I won't be wearing it out too often.
are you in a hurry for a sport coat?
Definitely not, I've just been wanting one for a while. I've seen styles over the seasons and they're all nice, but I can't commit.
even as a "tailoring enthusiast" it took considerable time to find one i actually liked, and that's okay
you will most likely have a gut reaction when you see one you like
As a smaller guy, I'm a tailoring enthuasiast as well - I just prefer a great fit, over something I purhase from the rack and having it altered. I almost always have to have my formal wear altered in some way.
Yah, I feel like i'm at that point where it's the gut reaction. I don't shop very often, so it's hard to reconcile the smart decision vs impulse.
i'll just have to peek through look books and more photos
"great fit" is a very relative term, especially since tailoring is less of a requirement now than before and particularly in casual fits; you know your preferences but the bar for a "good fitted sport coat" is lower than people usually think imo
Maybe what I meant was well tailored vs fit. For fit, I was comparing tailoring vs off the rack.
also relative term but i agree with checking #inspiration or #waywt - you can search the latter with
