potential and field
A is def correct
B. E due to induced charges + E due to dipole = 0 so Einduce = -Edipole = given term
C. potential due to induced charges = 0 , potential due to charge on sphere = kQ/R , potental due to dipole = kp/(2r)^2 so net potential at C = kQ/R + kp/4R^2
D. ik Vnet at D = Vind + Vdipole + Vsphere = kp/R^2+ kQ/R + Vind

basically every part except A
i dont have the ans key so need to be sure
Also is this from ayjr of this year π
idk ...
Your reasoning for B seems correct. As for C, the potential inside the sphere will be kQ/R only (because of electromagnetic shielding). As for D, the induced charges will have a tendency to keep the potential the same throughout the sphere, we know that the potential at the center is kq/r and that due to dipole is kp/r^2, so V_ind+V_dipole+kq/r=kq/r, which means D is incorrect ig.
This article shows a conducting sphere of charge qo. An external charge q is placed distance x from centre with O as centre and A as a point just inside sphere
Is this discussion invalid
(In context of option c)

if i clear out Vc i can just do Vd= Vc = Vind + Vdipole + Vsphere = kp/R^2+ kQ/R + Vind
to get V due to induced charges on sphere at point D
wont we just add the potential due dipole + potential due to Q charge across the conducting sphere at C since well the sphere is conducting
yeah i think the same
Vc = kQ/R + kp/4R^2
electrostatic shielding tell us about the electric field at C iirc.
at C electric field will be only due to charge induced on inner portion of conductor
yeah potential remains same as the charges just rearrange
electric field at c gonna be 0 so Edipole = Echarges on sphere
true
so A and B are 100% correct
yepp and D too since we did Vc - V (due to dipole at D)
but Vc hi toh confirm nahi ho rha
ye hai
But the field inside a hollow sphere is zero, no?
Hence the potential remains constant?
*This. The field inside the conductor is zero, so you can view it as only the charge on the outer surface of shell has rearranged, while outside charge doesn't influence C, ig.
yes so potential on surface is same as potential at centre
before the dipole it was KQ/R but after the dipole is placed, it becomes KQ/R + KQ/4R^2
But the inside of the sphere is not affected by the outside stuff though right? Or am I tripping?
'Cuz of electromagnetic shielding and stuff?
i think that just means that charge rearranges to ensure there is no net electric field inside
but potential does change
also like logically all charges are still at R dist so potential due to Q charge on sphere is still KQ/R since potential is algebraically added...and potential due to dipole simple gets added since it's positive
This is for electric field right.. the shielding part. You can say that for electric field and change in potential, the outer charges won't influence the situation going on inside the shell. But potential at a point will be influenced by it. A,B and D are correct ig.
Electrostatic shielding discusses electric field and not potential
Remember , if E = 0 then V may or may not be zero but dV= 0
Yeah, I'm confused too. π
Do ping me if you find the answer.
Alr lol
Finally it's ABD

@SirLancelotDuLac
Ah, I see.
Lol 1-2 weeks after jee, and I'm already forgetting this stuff.
lolol
how much u scorin in adv btw
Not well π
come on cant be that bad
It is ;_;
Expecting ~10k this time.
So true.
wdym this time
u taking drop?
On the fence about it.
no no no no
On one hand can't do this stuff for 1 more year π
π kyu mera comp badha rhe lolol
on the other well yk.
u r probably getting iiith cse man
99.9 %ile aint no joke
Lmao no man, I'm way behind the competition π
Prolly not seeing previous year cutoffs but...sighs in general candidate
modest
whaa--
99.9 pe bhi iiith nahi milta
??
If you want cse, probably not. ece mein there is a chance.
oh damn
nit trichy warangal and stuff ?
Then there's me who's getting nothing
Except BITS maybe
Good chance with BITS
Apart from trichy getting surathkal and stuff.
how much are u scoring
I haven't checked
pilani cse?
Just gonna wait till Monday
Bro, you must have done advanced nicely π
Everything except CSE according to last year's cut-off data

I got 326
take that and build your stack now
bhaisahab
general candidates π
?? What
Again, the amount of lafdas I've heard about surathkal force me to consider other stuff.
not for bits
but govt ones
Damn, I should have given other exams too π
Yeah I'm also General candidate. Pain.
I'm still worrying about IAT result
aur bhi ache options honge
I half want to check score and half just want to wait
theres dtu ofc but 99.9%iler deserves more
Me with 99.4:
wait it out ig
Not results.
Candidate responses and answer key are out
Lmao, I was just filling the dtu form ;_;
What's dtu?
delhi technological university
Ah
you should consider that btw
Sorry for asking, but did you see the probability question in paper 1?
dtu cse is pretty good
No interest in engineering so let's see
Idr
The 19/60 vs 13/36 one?
Ah.
W guy
I haven't looked at the Adv papers again after stepping out of the lab on the 18th
I do not want to rememberπ
alrr closing this now
Okie
best of luck to everyone
Good luck mate
Yea man. Also all the best for this year. π
thanx a lot
