All Iris 1.21.1 NeoForge Builds & GeckoLib Dependant mods are incompatable.
So, there is a issue with Iris causing Geckolib depending mods to fail to render there animations for some reason, the start of the error is as follows:
[31May2025 13:51:28.422] [Render thread/INFO] [STDERR/]: [java.lang.Throwable:printStackTrace:651]: java.lang.RuntimeException: creeperoverhaul:animations/creeper.animation.json: Unable to find animation file.
This is a example message of this issue, the full collective message can be seen in the .txt document provided as it's too big to post here manually.
This happens with literally all mobs depending on GeckoLib to function no matter what,
This issue has already been extensively discussed on Geckolib's discord server and it has been pinpointed out that the issues come from Iris.
Concluding this failure it spam's the error for each geckolib mob independantly over 50 times every second causing the game to come to a almost halt with like 5fps or less depending on how many mobs there in your visual POV.
I have already been checking out many ways to close down the issue and all points to Iris at the moment, using F3 + 2 Keys to check for lag spikes and checking logs persistantly to se what is causing it,
Also to note it's not always exactly the same Geckolib mobs or animals that are affected by it on each launched instance of minecraft, it's at random, but it is still always targetted at and from a mob or animal from Geckolib.
If you need any other information or want to message me, try to get a direct hold on me by DM'ing me or pinging me or such, i usually mute discord servers so apologies for that, i am gladly willing to solve this together with any of you including Iris Developers themselves.

So the issue starts happening the moment you add Iris into your modpack?
Yes, Correct.
554 mods is...
Probably too many mod integration at play here where adding Iris would cause the modpack to break.
:thonkwithshades:
Iris 1.8.1? That's pretty old.
ye i put that to test aswel
i already tried all, last one was that version 🙂
Fair enough.
Forgot that you mentioned that already.
Let me take a read on the whole log. Be back if I found anything.
Alright.
Are there optimizing mods that could mess with Iris? 🤔
Thats the only thing that i could think off of
The mod standalone (with dependencies) works with Iris (and Sodium). So it must be other mods at play which doesn't play nice with Iris, causing others to break because of it.

Yeah funny enough i also tried that already just now 🤔
hence i mentioned this now 🙂
Minimum of 10 iterations of Thanos Method™️ should do the trick. Time to find out which one's causing it.
What is The Thanos Method?
The Thanos Method™️ (more accurately known as a binary search) is a debugging technique used to find the mod or mods that are causing the issues you are experiencing. The method is simple: to find the conflicting mods, split your mods folder into 2 groups. Remove one group, and test in-game. Keep the group that has the problem, and repeat until no more mods can be removed without the issue disappearing. Thanks to The Thanos Method™️, you can now enjoy an issue free modded Minecraft!
"The Thanos Method" is not actually trademarked or even remotely considered an official name. Please don't sue, it was just considered funny.

I've already done that lol
:thonkwithshades:
painstakingly with 500 mods been doing that for 2 days
lol
What launcher are you using? If you're using Prism or Modrinth, export your modpack as a mrpack, then send it here so that I can import your modpack and test your case on my end.
i tried using prism but i don't really like it, just using the official launcher for now 🤷
Also, Prism doesn't support export to mrpack seems like. That's going to be troublesome.
It does
i also have a preset of configuration files i have customized for the modpack.
but none do affect iris or geckolib.
You export as modrinth (don’t ask me why)
Can you help me with that?

You wouldn’t export the mod list, you would export the entire instance
:thonkwithshades:
But you can select only the mods folder so
And by doing so, you also add all the mods that have been downloaded into the exported zip, correct?
Not something like a list of links to download the mods?
Nope
Prism will download it all for you
Even the stuff on curseforge
I think I'm suffering from smooth brain syndrome.
Rightfully so.

This has been bothering me for the past 2 and a half hours.
..are you compiling the Linux kernel
WSL's Linux kernel.
Well I hope you get that working :haha_yes:
And for some reason, despite having all the necessary build packages, it still fails at that exact spot.
Who knows if it’s easier than prism
Oh yeah sorry very off topic
Hmm i used to do linux based stuff but these days i left that enviroment 👀
it's fine lol
Let me try to set it up in prism and then export it for you.
It's 450'ish MB
@hardester enjoy lol 🙂
Yeah I expected as such.
The FancyMenu data and config, FancyMenu Drippy config, Essential config, OpenLoader Config & files, xaero's minimap configs, and Complimentary shaders with EuphoriaPatches mod is custom, the rest is default pretty much.
Got prism stuff to work?
I am going to do another 2 day sweep through all my mods and se if i can maybe figure it out in the meantime, hardester, you also doing that or?
Due to internal constrains, I'm unable to do anything.
?... personal issues?
My access to the PC is limited.
And as for my laptop, well, surely 6 GB of RAM wouldn't cut it for a modpack this big, right?
family pc?
Yes.
you'll need atleast 28gb of ram to run this pack okay'ish xD
ah
Now I'm back at the dorm, which means I'm physically away from my PC until the weekend.
ahh okay, it's fine, i'll just keep sharing my experiences 🙂
