Steam won't launch games from secondary drive

I'm giving Bazzite a try but am running into the issue of playing games from a secondary hard drive. I formatted the drive with the btrfs file system and Steam will install games to the drive just fine, but Steam will not launch them. If I move the games to the ssd Bazzite is on, Steam will then launch the games just fine.
Maybe this is a Steam issue rather than a Bazzite issue, but I do not have this issue on Windows.
Any tips on what I could try to get this working?

yes only ext4 and btrfs is supported as a game library, also the automounter only does it to ext4/btrfs non-removable drive with label
