HDR Problems over Heroic Launcher
I install Zombie Army 4 through Heroic as I have it on Epic. Using gamescope, or ProtonGE launch commands to enable HDR, I launch the game just fine. Getting into the game, enabling HDR severely overexposes the scene. Brights get way too bright, darks are pitch black. Running it on Windows works fine, I'm not sure what's going on here. Used the launch commands: "PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1" in the case of ProtonGE, and "gamescope --enable-hdr" when trying through gamescope. HDR does this through either method.

Bump
It seems turning SDR Brightness down to the absolute minimum on KDE settings helps correct the overexposure, but that's kind of a bandaid fix that's a hassle to do every launch of the game
I'm having the same issue after switching from the heroic appimage to the flatpak, so it might be related to the flatpak mesa version being behind.
Oh? I installed it from the discover app, should I try switching to the app image?
That would confirm that it's related to it, but I saw the maintainers are planning to stop supporting appimages in the future. Make sure you know where your prefixes and games are installed if you go that route. I had to reconfigure those after I moved to the flatpak.
UPDATE: Just launched it through Heroic today, and the HDR isn't overblown anymore. Gonna make sure it isn't a fluke by trying gamescope hdr instead of Wayland hdr, but if it stays like this, problem solved
gamescope launches with -hdr-enabled, and while the HDR setting ingame seems to be enabled, the option to enable/disable it is also greyed-out, so I can't flip the setting to see if it is working or not
Nevermind. While it isn't as terribly overexposed, the brightness floor is still massively raised if I don't set the SDR brightness level on KDE to 50
Appimage Heroic seeeeems to be stuck on trying to load the game
Okay, got appimage going, HDR is overexposed like the original issue.
The behaviour is really weird. If I alt tab from the overexposed game to the display configuration and set the max sdr brightness to about half it's fine. When I then calibrate the hdr in game (borderlands 3) and apply, and then alt tab to set it to the maximum again it doesn't over expose anymore.
That is using ge 10-4 with the wayland and hdr set in the environment variables
And that's not happening for me in steam games
oh: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499934
From a quick glance of that, It looks like we're expected to have our sdr max at around 200
My monitor is only hdr in name and colour space and whatever that reports as 200 nits is too dark during daylight :/
Idk cuz mine only looks like normal if I have the sdr max brightness to 50, the absolute minimum
Other games, SDR Brightness does affect the brightness of HDR, which is dumb to me, but otherwise HDR worked for those games, such as Deep Rock Galactic, and Helldivers 2
Launching Zombie Army 4 and trying to configure HDR is where this weirdness comes in for me, at least through Heroic launcher
Might just be more game related then and coincidence we have those on heroic. Hard agree that that sdr setting should not affect hdr settings. You mmight need 50 because you have actual hdr and not just that label on your monitor.
Yeah my monitor is one of the MSI QD OLEDs
I'll see if I have any other games on Heroic that support HDR and check that stuff out
I'm having similar overblown issues running the same launch commands and using ProtonGE 10-4. I haven't managed to get Cyberpunk showing correct HDR yet on an LG G1 TV besides with Windows, and I'm running the HTPC version of Bazzite
I haven't tried it lately, all that I was able to do to remedy it was just tone down the brightness to it's minimum. I had a system update, and it changed up the HDR by adding calibration, so I've gotta check sometime if that solved anything. Otherwise best bet is to just tone down the brightness in the display settings to as low as you can to make it look alright
(using desktop Bazzite on my end)
No real change here after the calibration on borderlands 3 in heroic. That it happens on cyberpunk as well, does seem to indicate that the launcher may matter. I have no hdr brightness issue on cyberpunk in steam.
Dang, maybe that's the issue then
Just the launcher doing something weird
