SMM straight up isnt working how to fix?
ive used SMM a long time ago and decided to start a new run. as far as i can tell there are no mods running right now yet when i try to download anything it just says failed to resolve lockfile for the folder path SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Satisfactory/FactoryGame/Mods/default-lock.json (there wasnt a mods folder so i added one) ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling SMM and it doesnt work how do i fix this
Solution:Jump to solution
@Muppet Burrito reinstalling the game then reinstalling SMM fixed it as far as i can tell. creating profiles, downloading mods etc work and dont throw errors

triggered by @ZweilanderIs your game fully updated? 385279 seems to be 1.0.1.4 and the last stable branch is 1.0.1.6
i reinstalled satisfactory about a week ago so i think its fully updated
is there a way to update my game version cause it is 385279 like you said
im not running any beta's on steam so im confused on how it even happened
Start with verifying the game files.
after verifying it is still on 385279
Looks like i messed up on my end. 1.0.1.6 was an experimental patch. 385279 was the latest stable. Anyways, let me see if I can help you sort this out anyway.
gotcha
Do you still have old mods in your mods folder?
Nevermind.
Just noticed you didn't even had a mod folder.
Try starting a new profile on SMM. Not sure if this will help or not but worth a shot
the new profile exists and i can select it but making it popped up the same error and trying to download something popped up the same error as well
The path above are the folders or the files in that location marked as read only?
on the mod manager or in the mods folder in the game folder?
In the mod manager
The problem might be exacerbated by the fact that you created the mods folder yourself
So please do everything in the mod manager that you can do there
how would i check as i dont see anything showing read only
all i see above the profile is mods on/off and select game installation
@Muppet Burrito should i delete the mod folder i made?
I'm not sure yet, I'm still digging through the logs to see if I can find something there
no worries
Try creating a new profile in SMM first and see if that helps
If that doesn't work then we can go from there š
ive made one a minute ago that caused the same popup should i make a third?
It certainly sounds like a file permission thing to me. And he already did and got same error
No, if you're still getting the same error then that's not it, well not it alone
yeah i tried looking up the default-lock.json access is denied error but couldnt find anything
Thankfully I have the version of VS installed needed to look at the json in the zip log you posted, am doing that now š
If it was me I would remove the mod folder you created first then attempt to create a new profile. But wait for Muppet to check
do what you gotta do i cant read logs past rimworlds beginner friendly logs
To me it seems that something corrupted that file or folder
Yeah that's the next thing I was about to suggest as well, but with varifying your game install in between
time to find out if that fixes it then
So, delete that mods folder, then varify game install files with SMM closed, then make a new profile
Oh yeah I forgot about verify
See if that works, either way report back and we can take it from there š
Happens to the best of us
Iām trying to learn to read the logs and be able to help more
now when attempting to create a profile it spits this out failed to resolve lockfile: failed to write lockfile: failed creating lockfile directory: mkdir D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Satisfactory\FactoryGame\Mods: Access is denied.
you want me to paste in the debuf info for it?
Yes please
Hmm does the drive you have steam installed on have free space available?

triggered by @ZweilanderThis can cause errors if you don't have enough space available on the drive
the drive satisfactory is on is 200+ gbs free space
Are you starting steam as an admin?
and my other drive is 100+ gbs of free space
i am starting steam as admin
Or if you maually moved the folder the game is installed to
i havent moved the game folder unless you count adding that mods folder
Disable starting as an admin or start SMM as an admin.
That might be throwing things, but it's worth trying other options first as if that is the issue it might require uninstalling & reinstalling the game entirely
Try the options SirBlastelot suggested first, in case they help, while I dig through the new logs
my SMM is on my C drive while satisfactory is on my D drive could that be causing it?
as for Blasts option its still throwing the same error after trying both
Okay did you verify game files yet?
That could indeed be an issue, they like to be on the same drive if possible
0 files failed to validate and will be reacquired right after you said that
But it also looks like you have SMM installed and SML not installed, which could also be an issue
when i try to download SML it throws the error
If you don't want to play with mods enabled try uninstalling SMM for now and see if you can play without errors vanilla
Well that could be because of the lock file thing going on right?
ive also put SMM on the same drive
Did you do that manually?
yes
Because if so that probs won't work
welp
If you moved SMM manually you'll need to uninstall it, then reinstall it to the same drive you have the game installed to
If you moved the game manually you'll probs need to uninstall both the game and SMM and then reinstall the game, then SMM, in that order
And as long as you don't delete them manually your save files won't be affected
i moved smm uninstalled then reinstalled it to the D drive and its still throwing errors
Yeah it's probs really not liking that you manually created that mods folder then, in which case you'll need to follow the second option in my above message
i mean i went to the place in the folder selected New folder then titled it Mods
but ill see if the second option works
SMM really doesn't like it if you create, move or delete files manually, at all
That's why moving the game install file manually will break it as well
im going to reinstall onto my C drive instead to see if that helps aswell
all ive really done is create that mods folder
other than hitting install and choosing D drive and letting steam download it
Digging further into the logs it looks like, as suspected, It's failing to find and validate your install as is, which could be because they were on different drives, or because you manually created the mods folder, or both
So, reinstalling both to your C drive should hopefully help fix the errors. Either way we'll be able to rule something else out if that isn't it. Let us know how you go š
will let you know soon satisfactory is at 70% rn

Awesome, great to hear! Enjoy all the new features 1.0 offers and next week 1.1 should be released.
thank you all for your help cause without it i would probably just play vanilla a bit longer then drop it
I'm sure we're all just very happy that worked and that we were able to help!
And we're here anytime if anything goes wrong in the future š
Yay glad that worked for you.
