Two particles A and B of masses 1 kg and 2 kg respectively are kept 1 m apart and are released to move under mutual attraction. Find the speed of A when that of B is 3.6 cm/hour. What is the separation between the particles at this instant ? im able to do the first part but i dont understand what is going on in second part

hn par i dont get ki bhai kaise le rhe approach smj nhi ara
SirLancelotDuLac
Well, for the first one conserve momentum, for the second one use energy conservation. So, $\frac{-GMm}{x{initial}}=\frac{mv^{2}}{2}+\frac{Mu^{2}}{2}-\frac{GMm}{x{final}}$, where v and u are velocities of mass m and M

And x_initial and x_final are seprations initially and finally.

wont both the masses have a gravi potential?
SirLancelotDuLac
For 2 bodies we only write the potential once.
