Infill intersections not connecting

Ignore the slight underextrusion on the below solid infill layers, my main question is why do the infill intersections not connect? These eventually creep up and scrape against the nozzle and get really crunchy. It seems like a retraction problem to me but am not finding the right knob to turn. Adjusting retract length, retract speed, pressure advance, smooth time did not appear to make a difference
