Adding a custom / non-standard resolution (AMD)

There's a lengthy tutorial on the bazzite subreddit on how to achieve this:

My questions:
  • Is it still this complicated and
  • What is the risk of bricking the system or getting a persistent black screen (even after reboot)?
My desired resolutions are not listed in the EDID. I only have screenshots from the Adrenalin settings on Windows so I would probably know which values to use.
