Scatter crashes Unreal

Hi, most Dash functions seem to work fine, but the DASH scatter command crashes Unreal 5.5 without any error warning. Any idea how to fix this? I'm working on a RTX 2060 super and 24GB ram. I'm using the latest available drivers and such. Unreal works fine otherwise. Thanks

Hey! Sorry to hear that, any crash message? And can you send over the crash files? Hopefully then we can find the cause 🙏 Crash files info: https://discord.com/channels/826908885024636989/1151414435722821672

Hi Daniel, thanks for getting back to me. There's no crash message, it just crashes hard. I'll send over the files when I get back behind my machine.

Here you go! I hope there's an easy fix 🤞

can you send the mesh you are trying to scatter?

yeah, not much info in the logs, hard to tell without mesh and some local tests. Did you tried to scatter simple cubes on simple plane ?

I tried many different variations, but not that. Will try it right now. So just tried with an empty level. Created a plane, scaled it up to 20, then added a cone. Opened up Surface scatter and added the plane. Then added the cone to scatter and Unreal freezes then crashes. There's no new crash file created btw... Looks like the same file I sent you. I’ll create an entirely new project just to be sure, and try again. Okay, so after creating a whole new project and creating an empty level. I did the same thing. Again Unreal crashes. There is no crash log created in the saved folder... So the logs I sent you earlier are from some other crash unrealted to this issue. What do we do now?

Very strange! If you try path scatter for example, does that work?

I’ll check that tomorrow! Nope, doesn't work either. I noticed also that if I draw a curve with Dash Unreal crashes as well. But a curve primitive works fine.

I installed 5.6, but encountered the same problem. Here's a (not a crash) log file from that project.

Thanks for trying some more! It's super strange as the logs don't tell us anything at all 😦 Could you try this? 1. Record your screen 2. start UE, open and pin the UE output log open so it is visible 3. Open Dash 4. Creata a curve primitive that we know works 5. Open Surface Scatter and try and scatter, or something else we know don't work 6. Send the video Curious if some message appears at some point in the output log that may be helpful Also, if you haven't already, it can be worth re-downloading and re-installing Dash as well: https://www.polygonflow.io/download-latest-dash

Thanks. Will do that today. I’ll be back.

Here's a link to the screenrecording. The log only prints when the tool is invoked but not the commands within the tool. Is there a way to show those in the log? Because you can see it just crashes and doesn't give any information/
DanielFreden (Dash for UE5)
Thanks for the video! Normally there should not be much in the log, but was hoping I would find some clue or something but I don't really 😕 Have you tried uninstalling and installing again?

Yeah, I guess this is going to be one of the difficult ones to solve. 😓 Too bad. I’m on to something else at the moment. But I’ll try your suggestion tonight. Thanks.

Unfortunately it seems like that yes, can't remember seeing a general crash like this without any info in output log or crash log, or in the crash files 😦 But I will keep thinking until you give a re-install a try and hopefully we find a solution eventually!

I've re-installedd Dash, but no progress. Still crashes when it actually has to scatter.
DanielFreden (Dash for UE5)
That's too bad 😦 To be honest, we don't have any other ideas for now that you can try. And without any proper crash file being generated, we have no idea where to start looking for the cause. So not much we can do, I am afraid 😦 I guess you just started a trial, or did you already buy a license? If you bought a license, I will of course refund your purchase!

Hey Daniel, that's a real shame. Probably a very specific hardware/software issue. I bought a perpetual license. But I was planning on buying a new PC in the short term. So I will try it with new hardware first. If it still doesn't work there (that would be very strange) I would appreciate a refund. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help so far.

Aaah, great to hear that, I would be very very surprised if it doesn't work on that. But yes, please keep me posted!
