See Gem dihalides don’t exist for long Even if they form They readily convert into ketones Or aldehydes Mechanism I believe I’ve shown you before It’s not about the reagent Gem dihalides are essentially Carbonyls (C=O) It’s an equilibrium which is favoured too much towards the Carbonyl Because of high bond energy of C=O And less repulsion as it was in gem dihalide (Also it’s planar to less repulsion with other groups)
