Wedding suit recommendations

Hi, I'm looking for a wedding suit & want to go a bit more fashion & contemporary than getting a more traditional suit tailored. So I'm currently at looking at off the rack fashion brands. - Budget: aiming for around £2k but looking at £1-3k. Could stretch to £4k for something really special - The wedding will be outdoor and very hot, so looking for light summer materials - Colours: I've been looking at black, off-white, brown, creams. I'm open to mixing jacket & trouser colours. If it helps for the type of suit... I'm 6ft 2, have broad shoulders, have long arms (high ape index) and a long torso. So I think higher waisted trousers help balance that out a bit. Attached a few photos I like (though obviously not with turtlenecks given the heat...)

Hi @cooleh! The best way to get a good answer is to ask a great question. Please consider including: - Reference pictures of things you like or are looking for. The more the better! - Pictures of you wearing things if you have fit questions. - A specific budget in numbers. “Affordable" means different things to different people. - Specific measurements: Chest and waist are far more useful than height and weight. - Measurements of your favourite fitting clothing. Learning these measurements will go a long way in helping you shop online and secondhand! - Whether you're happy to buy secondhand. - Whether you prefer to buy in person or are open to shopping online. - Your vague location, especially if that limits your options because of customs or access to stores. A country or continent is helpful. - Timescales: Do you need something urgently, or can you wait for the right thing at the right price? Also, please use the search function to see if a similar question has already been asked!

Filling in some of those other things - 42-44 chest, 34-36 waist - Looking for new - In-person (London UK) or online - Timescales: ideally in the next couple of weeks

oman1215mo ago
not OTR but being in london does open up going in person to Scott Fraser Collection

next couple of weeks makes it pretty difficult

you'll have to buy it ASAP and get it express tailored on that timeframe
oman121
oman1215mo ago
he said ideally, idk what the hard deadline is
Michael
Michael5mo ago
SFC is 6-8 weeks so probably not a realistic option

Go to Selfridge's or Harrods or Liberty and try on as much stuff as possible with that budget. Probably Bond Street too.

oman1215mo ago
the drakes rec from art is very good
cooleh
coolehOP5mo ago
Selfridges and Mr Porter are what Ive been looking at today. And I'll look at Harrods too Do Liberty have mens suits? And would Drakes do more contemporary designs?
oman121
oman1215mo ago
what does contemporary mean to you
artvandelayimporting
The drakes suit I’m suggesting is this but black

There's an entire menswear section in the basement, there will be some tailoring down there (at Liberty).
oman121
oman1215mo ago
people think of a lot of different things when you say contemporary
cooleh
coolehOP5mo ago
fair question, and I'm a real novice to suits so I probably don't know what I mean. I guess I meant I'm open to the slightly more "fashion" features like the metallic stitching on this first one, or whatever this guy has going on with his shirt collar and the baggy trousers in the 2nd/3rd. not sure what the term is, but a bit more "fashion" than "traditional"

so you want a bit of something "interesting" going on
cooleh
coolehOP5mo ago
yeah exactly Selfridges, Harrods, Liberty (and Mr Porter online) seem to be a good start
artvandelayimporting
So Aime Leon Dore has a pinstripe white linen suit
cooleh
coolehOP5mo ago
if you buy from one of these places, would you typically go to them for adjustments or sort that out separately at your choice of tailor? I've only done tailoring twice where I was buying a suit from the place itself

Most of the big London stores have someone they can recommend or in house.
oman121
oman1215mo ago
yeah the suiting in those will be a bit more toned down probably, but its good to try stuff on for sure
chopper
chopper5mo ago
If you find something you like at these nearly all the brands have flagship stores in London that might have more choice or more out there stuff.

oman1215mo ago
:discourse: one of the looks u posted is loewe the london store is really nice

coolehOP5mo ago
I really like Tom Ford from what I'm seeing on Mr Porter though my budget would probably limit me to what's on sale

I also like this, though I haven't found the trousers yet, and can't tell how hot it would be https://www.mrporter.com/en-gb/mens/product/tom-ford/clothing/suit-jackets/dyylan-slim-fit-pinstriped-metallic-wool-blend-twill-suit-jacket/1647597341840790 the price? or what 🤣
oman121
oman1215mo ago
probably pretty warm and yeah if they arent listed they probably sold out price yeah
Michael
Michael5mo ago
it's a wool twill so probably not a good fit for summer

I do like the loewe suit just because it's such an interesting mix of formal with the colour, shawl lapel, and maybe material, combined with an unusual silhouette https://www.loewe.com/eur/en/men/menswear/coats-and-outerwear/jacket-in-wool-and-silk/H526Y03WC2-1100.html

I actually went to their store last week! I had an awful experience with the shop assistant, honestly terrible, but aside from that I did like their suits a lot... my main worry was the long jackets really accentuated my long torso I tried this jacket https://www.driesvannoten.com/en-gb/collections/men-blazers/products/251-020409-1041?variant=54859807424890 that black jacket with shawl lapel looks really cool too
oman121
oman1215mo ago
yeah that black suit is real nice
cooleh
coolehOP5mo ago
they also had 40% off a bunch of stuff in store
adaptation
adaptation5mo ago
honestly a lot of the 'long torso' stuff is kinda fake... the waist of the suit is where the waist of the suit is it doesnt really matter where yours is
oman121
oman1215mo ago
i know i wanted one of those white jackets im sad they went away online really nice
cooleh
coolehOP5mo ago
whenever I try oversized jacket + baggy trousers I look like a bear, but I think it does look a lot nicer combined with more normal width trousers. at least on me

I went to a wedding where the groom had an incredible DB husbands suit with a really good looking flared leg. summer fabrics are basically sold out online. But it was a version of this. https://husbands-paris.com/en/shop/double-breasted-suit-tweed-ink-blue-stripes/

Husbands is really cool but might be tricky for someone with wide shoulders, their jackets are cut very narrow
Cozartam
Cozartam5mo ago
Good to know! And that tracks with how I’ve seen it worn too.
Michael
Michael5mo ago
they are mainly an MTO brand so if there was more time it would be a great option, esp since you could pick the the fabric I don't think they have any summerweight DBs in their RTW

wow you guys know your stuff I am the groom so that creamy pink suit would be too casual for me. it's cool though and would be fun as a guest!

@oman121 that outfit you posted is really cool. I wonder if the open jacket helps since you can see the waistline of the trousers, I dunno. cool look!

depends on the percentage of wool vs silk
oman121
oman1215mo ago
wool silk is nice, it will be decent. linen/viscose almost always nicer but if different look. imo the color is very nice but for TF pricing the cut isnt interesting enough imo
Michael
Michael5mo ago
wool silk alone doesn't necessarily mean anything. I have a wool silk overcoat and it's the warmest thing in my wardrobe from the detail shots it looks like a pretty solid weave, so I don't think it will be very beathable
