LODs generate for some but not for me
I'm playing on a Aternos server (1.21.6 fabric), and the other player has great generation and I generate only the ones I have visited. Both of us downloaded the 1.21.6 beta version for DH at the same time and it just doesn't generate for me, as good as it does for the other guy. Also, every time I log out and log back in, it like forgets all the chunks i have visited before. I flew like a 1000 blocks one way, went back and logged out. When I logged back in, it didn't generate the 1000 blocks I had traveled.

Does the server have DH installed?
I doubt aternos would allow dh

DH won't be able to generate LODs for chunks outside the vanilla render distance unless DH is installed on the server (DH 2.3.0+). Instead, as you travel around the world, LODs will be generated for areas you've visited.
If DH is installed on the server, it will work just like in singleplayer, gradually pregenerating chunks around the player. The server also has access to the
/dh pregen start <dimension> <origin> <chunkRadius> command, useful when you want to pregen without anyone online.

Also it doesn't "forget" the chunks, it just loads the from the disk again
if you want the chunks to load faster, set the "cpu load" to a higher preset
Some servers obscure their world seed, which messes with DH's ability to recognize that it has seen that world before. When this happens, you will end with with one new world folder in the DH data folder for every visit to the server
And obviously no previously generated LODs will load
But the other guy had the generation but I didn't. I have flown around the same areas as him
Neither him or you had distant generation of DH is not installed on the server
As for how effective the “local” generation is depends on:
- how fast you are moving
- what CPU do you have
- what DH CPU load do you have
- how much CPU resources are used for other things, e.g. a browser in the background
Try moving slower, increase the CPU load to preset and close all unneeded background apps
